My partner found this place and got lots of slices of honey cake, hazelnut and napoleon. Every slice was so perfectly well made. The layers melt together so cohesively and it is d e l i c i o u s. The pricing here is also quite affordable. You certainly wouldn't find slices for this price in norcal ~ read more

A cake staple of Hollywood, this bakery has conquered hearts and minds. In my opinion, they make most delicious European cakes and pastries, using high quality, rich ingredients. These European cakes are complex in preparation process, with multiple layers and multiple textures of deliciousness. Cakes like Jakonda, Sour Cream cake and cake Kyiv, are probably the best and most delicious in town. When I pass by and want a quick bite, I go with Chocolate Kartoshka, which is really a Ukrainian-Russian take on a Rum Brownie. It's absolutely delicious. The customer service here is always great and it's really a to-go place, but they do have 2 tables on a small outside patio, for that quick bite. All the cakes are prepared by Ukrainian and Russian grandmas, with 40 years of Soviet baking experience, so you know this stuff is good. Highly recommend! read more

Got the napoleon cake, has potential but think it's toooo sweet. Yummy texture but the sweet over powers the cake

I had been referred to this bakery by a friend and it is clear that it's ran by one older gentleman. the communication was sparse and on the day i was supposed to pick up my order they told me they closed at 4. i made my way over to the bakery around 3:20 and called to let him know i was on the way but he wasn't answering. which i didn't find odd because he wasn't great with communicating throughout our entire interaction to begin with but i did attempt to call him numerous times to let him know. i arrive to the bakery before 4pm and the doors are locked. i knocked a few times and was disappointed that he lied about the time of closing and now my friend is left without a birthday cake. this was very unprofessional and i am so disappointed in this experience. read more

I loved my experience at this bakery. It's a small corner shop with tons of treats inside. The girl working the front was incredibly sweet and helpful. I enjoy this bakeries sweets and have been buying them from an international store by my house, however, they stopped co sisterly carrying what I like in stock, so I decided to make the drive out to Le Balcon Bakery. I will be going directly to the bakery now whenever I want something of theirs. read more

I am from Ukraine and lemon cake was my absolute favorite desert.... after moving to LA I have not been able to find it at any bakery..... Until one day my father car from Le Bacon Bakery and brought me lemon cake. It was absolutely perfect!!! Every other week when he is in West Hollywood he stops by to get me a few.... At times it is fresh and at times not so much... Today, after years and years , I got a big one from him and was so looking forward to enjoying w some tea. To my huge disappointment it was so so so old, that when I was cutting a piece it all came down like sand.... I ask my dad, how was it possible and he told that the lady, who used to let him know when the cake is fresh and when it is not, no longer there. It is so sad to me that at the place that has been serving a Russian/ Ukrainian community for many years, this experience is possible. Please be aware and make sure to check products you buy there right away.... It has happened before, but never that bad read more

REVIEW # 400 Let me get that cake cake cake. This is my favorite cake bakery in LA. Although this is a "Russian" bakery, they make all kinds of cakes for all kinds of occasions. I've ordered cakes there for many years and have always been a satisfied customer. Some of my favorite cakes are the ones with fruit on top or chocolate cakes with different nuts and berry's inside. They have some cakes ready to go but even custom orders can be completed same day or next day. Just give them a call or come inside to look at their portfolio. The cakes are inexpensive compared to other good bakeries and their quality and taste is top notch. read more

I got a blueberry birds milk cake from this bakery and it was great! I miss the taste of this dessert from Russia. Here they can add cranberry or blueberry to it and it's truly delicious. Price is very fair, I could honestly pay much more for the quality you get. I needed it for the birthday party and they made it all pretty. Friendly service, owner is very nice and the ladies on the kitchen are sweethearts. Will recommend this place for any occasion, small or big. read more

Came in last minute (day of, literally hours before the party) and they were super helpful and quick! Got one of the premade cranberry meringue cakes and had them decorate it, and they were super accommodating and very delicious! Made my friends 25th birthday perfect! read more

I bought their "chocolate" cake yesterday to bring it as a gift on the occasion of thanksgiving day, but when we all, including myself tried it I felt really ashamed, the cake is no way chocolate, only chocolate part is outer layer the rest is just a weird mix of random low quality pastry ingredients. I bought this average size cake on recommendation of bald guy, who works there, I asked him pretty clearly: what's the most popular and delicious cake you have? I feel really sorry if it's in fact their best cake... In conclusion, I recommend all people who prefer high quality delicious desserts to avoid this place by any means. I gave it 2 stars only because nobody got sick. Considering its unpleasant qualities I reckon 20 bucks price as total rip-off. read more

So I ordered a bday cake for my friends party. I saw the reviews and thought it was definitely worth a shot. Hmmm So I saw a picture of a cake in their gallery I liked and asked for the same thing. I wanted happy birthday and my friends name on it and I wanted a chocolate cake, her favorite. I was supposed to pick up and forgot and an employee called me, huge kudos for following up!! I got the cake and it looked good, except there was no happy bday on it. They said they would add it, but wrote it on a piece of chocolate and stuck on the cake. It messed up the beauty of it all as you can tell it was added on and sloppy. I really didn't have time for any other adjustments so paid them and left. We get to cutting the cake at the party and guess what?... it's not chocolate. It looks like a hybrid of carrot and strawberry cake. It was not good. And I was upset because my friend liked chocolate. My friend tried to downplay it because she knew I wanted to make her happy. And I downplayed it, but knew what she really wanted. I went back and told them that they didn't give me a chocolate cake. (And showed a slice of the cake) Their response was, "this is our chocolate cake and our customers know that this is what they'll get when ordering a chocolate cake" WHAT?? So I can sell you a green shirt and you want blue and then say, "No this is my standard of blue" They gave me $10 of the $25 I paid. Said they would give me a 20% discount on the next one. Lol. You really think I would come back? read more

Pros: Their cakes taste GREAT!!! Their cakes are CHEAP - you can expect to spend 10-25 on a decent sized cake. They have pre-made cakes and you can special order one. The worst customer service, the product is not fresh, manager doesn't care if the customers are not satisfied with the way his employees talking to them. Ever since they changed the location and the owner the place is going down. This used to be to go place for the baked goods now will be avoiding it at any cost read more

I've bought a pan of baklava here a few times, and it was always good -- drier than the kind you'd get at a Greek or Middle Eastern place, but still very good. Over the last couple of weeks, I stopped in a few times and they were always out of baklava. Finally, two days ago, they had some. What was a little weird, though, was that the ones they had out were all significantly smaller than the pans they're sold in, as if they'd shrunk after baking. I bought a pan anyway. I tried a piece that night and it was okay. But it seemed sort of soggy -- the pastry wasn't dry, crisp and flaky, the way it usually is. This morning, no more than 36 hours after I bought it, I discovered the bottom of the baklava was covered in green mold. Disgusting! Clearly it wasn't fresh when I bought it, despite the "Fresh Daily" sticker on the packaging. I definitely won't be returning here, for the baklava or anything else. read more

My husband insisted that we have Russian cake at our wedding, so we got ours from here. After the nice lady gave us a plateful of samples (most of them quite good), the last one -- jaconda (cranberry, white chocolate) really blew me over. The tartness of the cranberry offset the rest of the cake, so I felt this would prevent a too-sweet or dry cake for our guests. We got a four-tier cake for about 100, which ultimately served about 70, a huge portion of leftovers for the in-laws, and the top tier that is now in our freezer. The cake was beautiful and came in a timely manner on the morning of the ceremony! We also ordered a very large loaf of challah (slightly dry, probably due to its size) with it, and it all came out to around $500. Thank you, in-laws! Although they mostly speak Russian here, some good body language and basic English should get you through fine! read more

I needed a cake that was in walking distance from my work and this place was right on the button. It didn't hurt that my only stipulation was that it had to have chocolate in it. Lucky for me they are a chocolate lovers dream and most of their cakes have chocolate in some form. I got the grizzlah small ready-made cake, was $16 cash. The lady was helpful, and she didn't have to speak good english for her to know what "i need best chocolate cake" meant. Everybody loved it, total hit! read more

We used 'Le Balcon Bakery' for our July wedding and worked with Hayk (their manager). This is a Russian bakery and they are masters at what they do. In fact, most of the cakes/desserts sold in Russian markets all over LA come from Le Balcon Bakery. We had a non-traditional wedding cake. Instead of doing 3 cake tiers, we did 3 different cakes that were served separately (each with its own flavor). Although, this bakery can do anything you desire - really. Pros of Le Balcon: - Easy/simple cake tasting - Easy communication with Hayk (manager) - Amazing price (in comparison to other Russian/American bakeries) - Delivered cake on time & as described in original agreement. Cons: - Surprisingly - none. - For non-Russian speakers, just connect with their manager, Hayk. They really do everything possible to make your day special. P.S. When I lived in We. Ho., I used to get all the cakes & desserts for special occasions and family gatherings from this place. Good to know that the quality has not changed. read more

I needed a cake last minute for my graduation party and my friend recommended this place. This is a Russian baker that knows how to make cakes. They exceeded my expectations far and beyond!!! I got a cake that was fruit topped covered with chocolate with a cream filling inside....yum!!!! Not only was the cake good and gone within seconds but it was super affordable....$15 for a cake that serves about 10-15 people. The extra plus was that I just walked in and they had the cake ready....even if it wasn't ready the lady told me I would have to wait about 1 hour....not bad!!! Also, make sure to bring cash because they don't take credit card read more

This Place has the most tasteful cakes. its very close to where i live and any chance i get i order the Napoleon Cake or Roulette , those two are like their speciality. Oh yeah and their pies are sooo mouthwatering, once you have had pie here i dont think you will go any where else. Nara is an amazing customer service representative, always there to help with a generous smile. Thank you Nara! I highly recommend this place!! read more

Their "Birds milk" tart and pastries are amazing, also I loved "Potato" pastry. "Merengue pastry" is good too. But as for the Eclairs - I'd put more cream stuffing in there, it's a bit empty as for the filling inside and slight dry because of that. I'm a fan of their cranberry cake- it's really something- a combination of soft sour cranberries in a merengue pastry with nuts and cream - "it just hits the spot" like they say and makes your day. I haven't tried the Kiev cake yet, but I'll do that next time definitely. They also have assortment of pies and cookies. Too bad the place is situated too far from my house to come by oftener. Or may be it's too good for my line if look at this different way:) Anyway, if you're around - you should try them. They're exclusive in most of the sweets they sell- and they are really appetizing and yummy! Especially if you're tired of all that boring and typical American desserts like cheesecakes, brownies, apple pies etc- they have something new for you that you'll fall in love with definitely! BTW- they take only cash and checks. No credit/debit cards. read more

So we found this place on Yelp while driving through LA after lunch and wanting a little afternoon sweet. This place is a classic city family bakery at its best! Upon arriving, the family who owned the bakery was sitting outside and enjoying little a family meal after I imagine a lot of baking. Everyone was very friendly and kind and the service was excellent. They answered all of our questions and were quite helpful and accommodating in selecting the right pastries. We grabbed about four different to go and a cherry pie (Think Challah bread with fruit woven in the dough - AMAZING concept!). The quality was excellent and the pricing was great! If you are looking for an "Old World", honest and good bakery, just stop here and don't forget one of their pies! read more

Very affordable pastries but they didn't fare the walk home in 90 degree weather very well. They tasted good when I tried a bite once I got home, but after a few hours in the fridge they were not great. Perhaps these are best left for immediate ingestion only. read more

For all you Russians out there, I love the "potato" pastry from there and they have a huge variety of cakes to choose from; Natalie, L'amour, Grilliazh....
