Steve Head came out to inspect the chimney on my new (60 year old) house. He did a thorough inspection and found that the crown had disintegrated and the flashing had separated over time, leaking water down the chimney rusting out the chimney liner, and there were gaps in the masonry. I know he wasn't just making this up as he went along because he took all sorts of pictures. At one point hit the inside of the chimney with a screw driver and huge pieces of rusted metal just rained down on him. It was super chilly during the week when I had him come out, and I asked him what would have happened if I had lit a fire in the fireplace. He said I would have been very warm standing outside the house watching it burn down. Yikes!!! I come from AZ, where fire places aren't used for much more than decoration, but I had the fireplace checked because the only thing I fear more than pissing off my wife is dying by fire. If you're putting off having your chimney cleaned, I would strongly recommend against it. Get it cleaned and inspected. The cost of the work wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, and the piece of mind is priceless! read more

LCS came out this morning to give me a second opinion on a previous $1,200 quote for fireplace repair from another company. After their inspection, they assured me that there were no immediate concerns. It only end up costing us $145 for the cleaning and inspection. Both service technicians were extremely professional and fair. One told us that we had ordered more service than we actually needed and only did the work that was necessary without charging us extra. Its been a while back, but I hired LCS to clean and inspect my chimney and fireplace. I had bought products from them before and they had given me good professional advice a time or two and the lady who ran the front sales area was very professional and service oriented. One time I also met the owner and he seemed like a nice guy. I like to support local business so I thought I would give LCS some business and have my fireplace and chimney cleaned and inspected. Unfortunately, the man who showed up to clean my fireplace and chimney did more damage than good. I specifically told him where to mount my roof to avoid damage to my gutters. He disagreed. I advised him he would most likely damage my gutter system if he mounted the roof where he wanted to. I again advised him where to safely mount the roof to access the chimney. I left him alone and then I heard a terrible crunch. Yep, he mounted the roof where I told him not to and he crushed my gutter. Not just a little, ALOT of damage. Then, he proceeds up the roof to the top of the chimney. I advise him were NOT to stand as to avoid causing roof leaks. He did not listen to that direction either. ( Next time it rained, I had leaks at my chimney where the man stood after I asked him not to. ) After he left my house, I called LCS to explain what had happened and to see what could be done about the damage their guy had caused. I talked to the nice lady at the front desk who told me this was a problem for the shop manager to address and she would deliver the message and he would call me right back. Well, they had time to cash my check, but I am still waiting on that return call. At my expense, I had my gutter removed and a new one installed, and I had the roof damage fixed, but I wish I had not hired this company as it cost me a lot of money to fix the damage. And, mostly I am disappointed they never even bothered to call me back. read more
