I purchased a 24'x17' standalone garage from Interstate Steel in July of 2025. It's a nice garage…read morebut I would not purchase another from this company. The reasons are 1) It took over 5 months from when I ordered it to get it installed. 2) When I had an issue with a leaking roof they told me they wouldn't do anything about it because I had tried to seal the leak from the inside with rubber sealant (I had tried to seal it myself because it was probably going to be 5 months or more before they came back out). 3) They used screws on the roof that had rubber coated washers on them but even still I think that's where my leak was coming from. I ended up having to go up on the roof and seal every single seam from the overlapping metal and every single screw. 4) I had to seal around the window and the door jam because they both leaked a fair amount. 5) They garage uses a roll up door which leaves a few inch gap at the top that can't be sealed and I've only been able to find one automatic garage door opener that might potentially work on this roll up door and it's about $1,600 and needs to be professionally installed. 6) To have a more finished look on the inside it needs to be framed and walled adding to the cost of the overall garage set up. If you haven't started your project I would seriously consider looking at a stick build over a metal garage, even if the initial cost is higher.

Its 1 year later and i am trying to get permit through county for living area. county will not issue permit because the building plans are use U and need to b R3. Imterstate buildings will not make changes to plans. They will not adjust for city or county. Generic plans only. I now need to hire a local Engineer to maybe make changes. I will never use this company again and i sugest u dont either.

Well, I wouldn't recommend Steve & his Co at all…read more We set an appointment, and I also told him well in advance (2 months) that I wanted the carport installed. I gave him a 10% deposit. Steve & his 2 guy crew showed up, then all of a sudden he asked for plans as he stated they can't do the job, so now I'm in a bind as I took the day off, moved 8 cars, and he says we can't do the job- Wow, so I'm stuck in a bad situation. I told Steve to install the carport, and since you won't finish the job correctly (as the original estimate stated) and put a roof on (because he stated the roof material was not 29 gauge thickness- well, it is 29 gauge thick), then I guess I will have to finish it. Then Steve finally agrees to erect the carport frame, and he needed plans, which I supplied him; he then found the manual in the boxes after the fact. After he was supposedly done, he demanded to be paid by Zelle ( before he would help move the cars ), which was finally done, and they left. The next day, I was ready to install some roof panels, and every nut & bolt was only finger tight. Steve basically stated he didn't have the tools ( wow, the tools were supplied in the kit), so I'm now tightening all the bolts that I can without moving the cars. I texted him, he finally responded, and I asked for the original deposit of $196,00 back. He said now it was part of the second estimate, which nowhere is this stated- this guy's a crook- BEWARE. I gave him a time frame to refund the deposit- he said no, so I had the credit card reverse the job deposit. Always pay by Credit card, and crooks like this can't take advantage of the customer. Also, companies that are legitimate and have nothing to hide will take a CC. FYI, as the Guy and his Co are not licensed by CSLB and have a basically phony shield of an LLC Co. I'm ready to file a complaint with CSLB, as he must be licensed and has no insurance, workman's comp insurance, or a bond. This is needed for a job over $500.00, basically. I'm sure he will learn a lesson after the CSLB is done with him, and there will be some heavy fines he will pay! Rebuttal to Steve's comment- always some type of excuse to try and get out of the situation you're involved in!!!!!!!!!!!

Our contract states that he is responsible for providing the plan and then we submit it to the city…read morefor approval. He does not need to communicate with the city at all. The problem is that he has not provided us with the plan required for city approval. We have communicated with him many times but he still has not given us the plan. I asked him to give us the plan but he still has not given it to us. He is a liar and did not make a plan at all.
