I believe the owner (Jan Brinkman) does satisfactory metal fabrication, and is pleasant enough when…read morespeaking with prospective customers; that said, my 2nd effort to have work performed went as follows: 1) 6/02/25 - Went to shop & spoke to Jan regarding a job I needed performed on-site at my home. He agreed he could do so and estimate the cost to be between $300-$400.00. I indicated this was fine and I would email him with photos & measurements. 2) 6/12/25 - Jan confirmed (via email) receipt of my email, but stated he couldn't open the attachment (w/photo). So, I re-sent same & later rec'd his email confirmation that he had everything & could see the picture. 3) 6/20/25 - Friday, (18-days following our original discussion in his office), He emailed me to advise that he was heading up north that day for a "little job", and would be returning on Sunday (6/22), whereafter, he would get hold of me (on Monday, 6/23), to set up a date for "my little project". He confirmed a cost of $400.00 to complete the work, which I indicated was "fine." 4) 7/06/25 (approx. 15-days after Jan's proj'd return fm: "up North", and 14 days after he stated he would be back in touch with me); As of this date, no follow-up contact had been rec'd. So, I reached out, once again emailing Jan to ask if he still planned on doing the work we discussed and how we could proceed. To date, Jan has never acknowledged this last email, nor otherwise contacted me to explain the delays in getting back to me, nor indicating he decided he no longer wished to perform the work. Just 'crickets'... Summary: Everyone needs to decide for themselves what level of professionalism & customer courtesy & satisfaction they want from contractors they hire to perform work on their behalf. However, as a minimum, I look for good craftsmanship, honesty,4 fairness in pricing, and finally, respectful customer service & communications. For the owner of a company that advertises "No Job Too Small" (on their business card), yet, continues to keep referring to work he's indicated he'll perform as, "your little project"; who subsequently fails to honor several time commitments and breaks off all communication, absent any explanation or apologies for problems experienced preventing him from doing so...well, I choose not to engage this company/owner with further business. I only would suggest to possible future customers here, "proceed with caution" involving any out-of-shop work you need performed. Especially if completion of said work is dependent upon a tight timeframe.

I should have read the reviews for this shop, about Jan in particular. They don't really want any…read moresmall jobs, communication is horrible, and their word on time frame means nothing. They seem to jump on big projects and will tell you that, your small project means nothing to them. I took a drawing with dimensions and two pictures of a project to be turned on a lathe. I spoke to Jan prior to purchasing any material. Jan assured me he could do this project. I went to purchase the material and could not find the material Jan and I discussed so I called him in reference to a different material prior to buying. Jan said yes the new material would work and there would be no difference in time or cost. I arrived the next day with the material and drawings and discussed the project with Jan again, only to be assured he can do the project. I confirmed a price of $300 and asked for a time frame, I was told about 2 weeks to get some shop time. After 3 weeks I called for an update and left a message, he did not pick up or take the time to call me back. I made 2 consecutive weekly phone calls, same lack of response from Jan. I waited until 2 months went by and drove down to the shop. Jan acted like I was being unreasonable, told me my project was a fill in project and that he was saving me money by not charging me the regular $150/hour. He also stated it was going to be another 2 weeks take it or leave it. Wow, how his attitude changed. I decided my project has stat for at least 2 months at his shop what is another 2 weeks. The next day he texted me and now he needed a template. Keep in mind; we discussed this project prior to me buying material, then again when I dropped it off, no mention of me providing a template. And again this was another take it or leave it command. I simply stated I would be down to pick up my material, would he be in Monday morning he said yes. Guess what, when I arrived Monday morning the shop was closed with a sign indicating they were on a "job walk" and would be back after 1 pm. Called Jan and asking what happened to being open Monday morning indicating how frustrated I was. He later sent me a text, letting me know he would be back later. When I arrived to pick up my material all Jan had to say is "my stuff was outside". Buyer Beware, how many customers have to be treated badly befor it affects their bottom line. Not to mention how many customers have just walked away without leaving a bad review. Everyone decide for your selves, but I will never return and Jan really does not care or communicate with his small project customers.
