It's pet-friendly (huge plus!), and everyone was incredibly kind to my dog--he had the best time exploring the hiking trails with me. The vibe is very relaxed, peaceful, and the perfect place to disconnect from the world. Now for the real star of the show: the food. We did the tasting menu and it was so good. I loved the intention behind each dish and how they highlighted seasonal ingredients and the local farm sources. My personal favorites were the mushroom dish and the venison--both were phenomenal. The staff was warm, attentive, and did a great job walking us through each course. A few small observations: The dining room was a little too dark--I love seeing my food, especially when it's so beautifully presented. Since it was my birthday, I expected a bit more than a lone candle. No cookie, treat, or even a candle placed on top of dessert--it just didn't feel special. Dessert wasn't for me. It was somewhere between a milkshake and ice cream, but with a strange mochi-like texture and an overpowering amount of lavender. It felt like eating soap. The quail course tasted amazing, but the presentation wasn't appealing. It looked a bit messy, and leaving the head on (even though it wasn't edible) felt off. That said, everything was incredible--thoughtfully crafted, delicious, and visually stunning. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and the whole experience. Highly recommend--can't wait to return!

The Stone Cottage was sooooo amazingly cozy! Walking in, all you want to do is cozy up on the couch. The entire cabin was so peaceful. It was 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and you can tell that it was recently renovated. We weren't able to enjoy the outside as much because of the snow but Luna, my dog, had a lot of fun jumping around in the snow on the gated deck! We walked to the area with the bridge and the pond which was lovely to look at. There are absolutely no complaints- I just can't wait to be back during the warmer months to enjoy the outdoors with Luna more!

We spent awhile in kayaks and had the whole lake to ourselves for the entire time. We then spent some time down at the swimming hole and had that to ourselves as well. There was a group of lively people going in and out of the building. They offered to take our picture and they told us they were staying at the light house. STAYING!? Yes. Staying , as in sleeping in beds inside; using the facility ... SPENDING the night. Wow. I needed to find out how to do this. Later on I joined their email list... And forgot about it. Fast forward to last summer. I got an email at 9:03am from the Saugerties Lighthouse Conservancy informing me that next week- they had a cancellation and and opening for a single night's stay. That room was booked at 9:08! And my husband, the Fast n Furious franchise lover- the "I only tolerate nature walks" guy was, unbeknownst to him about to spend the night... in a light house. Begrudgingly. Drive up. Park in the small lot and walk though the fence which leads to a trail. The hike is short but time your arrival with the tide , or you may have to wade though some of the river water. The building is historic so History buffs would love it. The stairs have a pleasant creak to them. The living room has books about the area. The hall upstairs has a shelf with more books and games for Kids. No phones or televisions. Heaven. There is a room designated as a small Museum which documents the history Of the lighthouse. Our guest room was enough. We had two different window exposures, one of them looking right over the river. The bed was only a full size - a bit cramped for a big guy and his wife. But hey! I am sleeping in lighthouse sooo I don't care. There is a gracious innkeeper who lives onsite in a separated part of the house. The back deck is boat shaped and has a series of beautiful wood tables over looking the Hudson River. It was mid- afternoon and we had the place all to ourselves when we checked in. We had packed a lunch for the patio. The day was beautiful. When you sleep in a lighthouse you get a key. It gives you access to the house and the ladder which leads up to the actual light and the 360 degree views of the area. Nearing sunset, We climbed up and were able to look down at people who were on the deck. Some of them looked up at us confused as if wondering how we got up there? We had the key! It was a beautiful sunset. I stayed up In the glass enclosure until the light turned on. Since our room windows were huge and we left the shades up, I awoke at dawn and to the sound of the waves lapping outside. A few minutes later I heard voices and when I looked outside there were some fisherman passing very close to us in a small boat. So close I could have had a conversation with them from my window. The innkeeper cooked us a breakfast of French Toast with strawberries, eggs, juice and coffee. It was just all so pleasant and quaint that I didn't want it to end. We had to checkout two hours early because my husband had to get to work. Overall I loved every minute of it. I slept in a Lighthouse. I can't believe I got the chance.

My darling boyfriend surprised me with an impromptu weekend trip to the beautiful Saugerties Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast a few weeks ago. He'd been stalking their website months prior, never finding any openings, but alas, thanks to a last minute cancellation and some impeccable timing, he was able to snag a night for us at this charming BB. The lighthouse only operates as a BB on Thurs-Sunday, and it's open all year round. Reservations must be made months in advance so if you want to visit during a particular season, I suggest to start your planning two full seasons prior. The drive up was scenic and lovely. We downloaded some podcasts and had goggle maps lead the way. We chose to avoid tolls and that increased our ETA by 15 minutes but it was great, and only took about 2.5 hours to get there! The lighthouse has a shared fridge for its guests so we brought food with us for the stay, not knowing what to expect, but it turned out not to be necessary because we found some really great farmers markets along the way, and bought more food than we needed. The lighthouse also has a grill that guests can use, as well as nearby restaurant options. Make sure you bring your rain boots if you plan to go with the restaurant option for dinner, though. The tide comes in when the sun goes down so you'll have to waddle through some shallow water along the route from the lighthouse to the parking lot. It's pretty amazing to see, so also make sure to bring your flashlight, too! We also saw huge, gigantic boats glide right by our room at all hours of the day. They were incredibly close, I felt like I could almost touch them from the window. And listening to the waves crashing down as I fell asleep was truly entrancing. Breakfast was amazing, too. The inn-keeper made us the most delicious French toast, yogurt with fresh organic strawberries and fresh tapped maple syrup with fresh squeezed orange juice. The bathroom was the only feature that I would change. Don't get me wrong, it's very clean and I love the products they use; all natural shampoos, soaps and conditioners, but they use stored rain water for the sink and showers, and don't have a flush toilet... But then again, maybe that's all part of the charm. I loved every minute I spent up here with my best friend.

With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.
