At that point I discovered that I had developed tardive dyskinesia (TD --involuntary movements of the mouth and facial muscles) caused by the Abilify. While not the world's most debilitating disability it was very annoying and did interfere with things like eating, talking and sleeping. I was a very unhappy camper, believe you me! I was referred to Dr. Muhammad Nashatizadeh, a neurologist specializing in movement disorders, with offices at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. I have been seeing him since last year and have been extremely pleased with my experience and highly recommend him to anyone with movement disorder problems. Dr. Nashatizadeh is young and originally from the Midwest. (No, he doesn't speak with an accent -- he's a nice Kansas boy, from Emporia, I understand.) I was tremendously impressed that as a medical specialist he had the time to take nearly an hour with me on our first visit to go over my medical history, examine the symptoms carefully and thoroughly, and discuss what turned out to be numerous options for treatment of my TD. We ended up trying various things, trying to find the right medication that wouldn't cause other undesirable side effects. As it turned out, some of the first things we tried DID have side effects I couldn't stand (mainly extremely dry mouth) and we switched to other remedies. We've finally found a medication (tetrabenazine) that pretty much controls the movements without causing dry mouth or other side effects. After my bad experience with Abilify I was pleased with Dr. Nashatizadeh's cautious approach and willingness to take the time to follow me carefully as we tried various medications. Whenever I've had an appointment he's taken all the time necessary to find out what was going on and deal with me as a person, not as a 15-minute appointment! I have been able to send him updates of my progress with the various medications by e-mail, saving having to go in for numerous appointments. When necessary he has called me by phone or responded by e-mail, which I very much appreciate! I also appreciate that he's taken the time to coordinate care with my psychiatrist and primary care physician, both of whom need to be involved because of the potential side effects of the medications we've tried for my TD symptoms. Dr. Nashatizadeh trained at Baylor Medical Center in Houston with one of the "fathers" of movement disorder medicine. He's extremely knowledgeable in his field. Since I started seeing him he's been "discovered" and has been swamped with patients, but if you're experiencing a movement disorder problem (like Parkinson's or Huntington's diseases, Tourette's syndrome, tremor, etc.) I would highly recommend your seeing him. He also sees patients having cognitive disorders such as dementia, Alzheimer's disease and memory loss after a stroke. I think you'll be very pleased and satisfied with the care you receive from him. I definitely am!!!

Prior to this I had seen several doctors, been to a pain management clinic, done PT, chiropractor, massage, and even acupuncture. Nothing was relieving my pain to any significant degree so by the time I went to Dr. Bremen I was fairly desperate. The first thing that surprised me is that her first appointment with me lasted a full hour. I can't remember a doctor ever spending that much time with me. Most of it was her asking me questions and getting a detailed history of my symptoms. After a short physical exam she prescribed me some medication which I can report several weeks later is the first medication I've tried that has actually reduced my pain. She also referred me to a shoulder specialist for a previously undiagnosed shoulder problem that could very well be contributing to my neck pain. The other thing she did which no other doctor has ever done was give me her email address. Seems like such a small thing but now if I have a question I don't have to pay for another office visit I can just send her an email and she will respond usually within 48 hours. After my appointment I actually felt physically better for no other reason than I felt like I had finally found a doctor that cared and was going to work to help me find a solution to my pain. I highly recommend Dr. Bremen. Unfortunately it's rare these days to find a doctor who will give you this level of one on one care.

Prior to seeing her I had the worst headaches of my life and my vision was going down hill and was on the verge of not being able to cope with life in general. She truly seems to care and listens to her patients, not the typical doctor that has you in and out within 5 mins.

I've called 4 times and emailed, no response. I've been his patient for 18 months, not a new patient. There is a process to go thru for insurance before you can get surgery. The office staff and NPs don't care at all about their patients, couldn't care less..I don't understand how a practice survives treating their patients like this. I'm mad because I've had to start all over now with a new neurosurgeon after 18 months..when you're in pain time slows down. I prob won't get my needed surgery for another 18 months because his office is incompetent

Info packet arrives in mail, find out I'm actually scheduled with Dr. Peter Basta (strike one). Check in. Sit down. Am then told Dr. Basta is cancelling my appt. because I'm late (10 min. - yes, I realize that's my fault) and he doesn't want his schedule thrown off. The soonest I could be seen is a week and a half out (strike two--again, I'm in pain). I ask if he could just see me for 45 min. then. That's when it's revealed my appt. was only for 30 min. and they couldn't work with me (strike three). Seriously? How many times do we, the patients, show up on time or even early, only to wait an hour+ to be seen? Clearly, I will not be going back. My intent with this post is to increase awareness and help people understand that nothing in this world can be so black and white--especially when it involves such a people-focused industry.

I'm specifically talking about the neurosurgeon office of Dr. Wills. I tried relentlessly for several weeks to get a consult to see this doctor because I have serious concerns in my scans and I am in pain. Did everything they asked. Referrals, MRI contrast, etc. Front desk lady was so rude, unhelpful, and disrespectful over the phone so many times and gave no valid reason why I was refused as a patient. She spoke to me with the most horrible attitude. She should be terminated from her position because of her abhorrent border line racist conduct towards me. They refused to see me because I am a person of color. Plain and simple. Just letting everyone know that white nationalism still abounds in our country and it's totally abhorrent that a doctor would refuse to see any insured patient, regardless of color or race. So hurtful because I work hard for my insurance to get good medical care now that I'm an elderly woman. Do better Dr. Wills. I don't know how such apathetic humans can exist. You need to replace your receptionist asap. Stay away from this practice. I wouldn't trust them with my health anyways given their cruel, unprofessional, and downright evil behavior. Also, after finding out about his disgustingly gross misconduct and nasty bedside manners from many others on healthgrades, I dodged a bullet! Stay away from this "doctor"!.

I just couldn't sit comfortably for more than 15 minutes. This surgery was the biggest MISTAKE of my entire life. Since the surgery I have been in VERY SEVERE, nonstop pain. Now I cannot sit AT ALL even for one minute because of the extreme pain. I have chronic nerve damage now. I cannot stand for more than 15 to 30 minutes at the most. I can't walk further than 1-2 blocks. I can't eat a meal with my family. I can't go to the dentist, get a haircut, see a movie, travel, meet a friend for lunch, babysit for my grandchildren, go to a wedding or do anything this requires sitting... I have to lie down on the back seat of a car in order to get anywhere. I have tried EVERYTHING, even two spinal stimulators. Nothing has helped. Dr. Feigenbaum DOES NOT CARE and has not shown any compassion nor taken any responsibility when I have spoken to him since my surgery. He told me that the MRI shows that he did exactly what he was supposed to do. REALLY?? Does that mean that his goal was to turn me into an invalid with severe pain? He nor anyone from his office has called me once since my surgery to see how I'm doing. I had to call him. He did not warn me of the risks before the surgery either. There is a good reason why not one doctor in New York will perform this surgery! (And only 1 of 2 doctors in the entire U.S.) If I can help even just one person to stop him/her from having this surgery than this review is well worth it. Don't do it. You will regret it for the rest of your life!
