I was on active medications and was cut off short-notice with no where to provide medication to me. It takes months to setup with other practices. Went back to Leawood family care who had been purchased by Advent. Saw Claudia Wendel, explained the situation I was in needing a new PCP, the Meds I was on, first visit was fine, no problem on everything. Messaged for a med refill to which she replied, I don't prescribe that. I thought that was odd, we discussed all my Meds and "No Problem". A week later I needed a refill on another, messaged and received the same response, I don't prescribe that, and that we discussed this. I reminded her we absolutely did not or I would have looked for another PCP then. I then read the after visit summary she did from that visit and it was like we were not in the same room. Many procedures, checks she claimed to have done, never done and nothing about the meds I was on or refusal to fill. $500 for that waste of time. She then told me to go to urgent care and talk to them. Went to Urgent Care $500 and saw Claire Stinson, very nice, explained previous situation and why I was there and what I was looking for. No problem, she prescribed the meds and we scheduled another visit. Second visit $400 went south. She told me going forward she would only prescribe meds for one of my situations and that I would need to see other doctors for the others. They did refer me to other Advent Dr's. ($500 or $500+ per visit to 6 others). I did schedule another visit with her then. This is where things went weird in this visit. She was going through the usual wellness questions but focused and pressed one line of questioning, which I thought odd. She left the room, said she would be right back. Several minutes later a security guard knocks on the door, comes in asks if I am OK, if I feel OK? I said yes and he left. I thought that odd. After another 30 minutes I stepped into the hallway and saw her by the nurses desk talking on her cell phone, normal happy casual conversation. As I walked up the hall towards her, she had her back facing me, I noticed the back office staff gathered in a big "U" surrounding her, all with horrified looks on their faces. Again, thought that was odd, then one of them slowly pointed at me over Claire's shoulder. I was getting concerned there was something bad behind me. Claire spun around continuing her normal happy casual conversation, points a finger in the air smiles and mouths "one minute". I quietly told her I needed to go because I had another appointment. She nodded and said she would be right there. I went back to the room and waited. I am trying to process what the heck is happening and she comes back in the room. She then wanted me to go to the emergency room and "talk to someone". I told her, still confused, I was not going to do that and that I needed to go. She said "OK" but think about it. Walking down the hall to the exit the staff looked at me like I was a suicide bomber, it was very odd and I was trying to make light of the weirdness. I messaged Claire the next day and told her I had no idea what was going on but it was very humiliating and weird. Waiting for a response I read the after visit summary, I was shocked, humiliated and confused. I asked her if we would be able to continue a PCP relationship without this happening again, she replied, I would not change a thing. I cancelled my other appointment. My takeaway was she has a Hero/Savior complex, presses an issue to fabricate a story where she spins herself into a victim. Why? I have no idea and it didn't benefit anyone. I talked to some of the other Dr's I have met with afterward and they stated something was very wrong on many levels with that visit. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Advent/Leawood Family Care at 7025 College Blvd. OPKS. and don't recommend anyone else do either. It is not what it used to be! With all the Advent Dr's only dealing with one issue I am seriously considering ditching Advent all together as well. I do like some of the other specialists I have seen. That gets Advent the 1 star. Still looking for a PCP.

They also have a lot of availability, so I'm usually able to get next day appointments if need be. Some reviews have been saying the front desk staff were unkind or otherwise unhelpful, but I've only had good experiences with them. They're very kind and efficient, and always seem hard at work, hardly on their phones or distracted in general. I can see myself staying at this practice for many years!

They are not coordinated, and very difficult to deal with. I'd give the Doctor a 5 and the staff a - 5. Just the rudest and most unhelpful group, process to get refills on prescriptions is onerous, factor in the level of basic service the front desk provides and a 1 is where I come out on a rating. The amount of communication about important topics, the inability to speak with someone when you need help, the issues getting prescriptions refilled makes them not the ideal place if you take maintenance drugs. The pictures of their office with empty chairs, is what I normally see, no one in the lobby, 2-3 people at the front counter, some bill collectors in the back. Had one experience where my daughter needed to be dropped at school, so I was running late to my appointment, I called when I left the school to let them know I was running late, was on hold from the school to Drs office for 27 minutes. Walked in to an empty lobby one of the first appts in the morning and told by a very arrogant business manager that my appointment was cancelled that they were extremely busy (which by the empty room was easy to see they were not overwhelmed) and I would need to reschedule. Not a bit of care that I wasted my time on hold, when they could have either accepted that no one picked up and let me in, which was fair I was 10 minutes late but what really pissed me off was that if they had picked up they could have saved me an hour of my life by not coming in at all. So, rescheduled, wrote the day and time down, confirmed it with the appointment maker and then showed up on the following Wednesday to be told my appointment was on Tuesday and that I had missed it. I showed them the paper I'd written down the time and date on and confirmed that Wednesday was what I was told. Didn't matter had to reschedule, this felt like it was on purpose and wasted another hour driving back and forth and a 3rd hour later that week to come back. Keep in mind that I'm taking 3 hours of personal time each time. Reviews are opinion, my opinion is that the doctor is awesome but the staff, come on, there is no way service and care has dropped to the lowest level. Anyway 2 years later, missed an appointment that I didn't even schedule, and now apparently I need to find another doctor. And I will be out of a maintenance drug I take from a prior Cancer diagnosis. Found a new Doctor closet to my house and can't get in until the 9th of September so I'll be out of my prescriptions.

I have had only exceptional experiences with Dr. Rahto and his team taking great care of my health needs. But yesterday was especially important for me as I came into the office in crisis mode regarding my health issues and how that has/is impacting my job/career, my life, and my future - and they made sure that I was well taken care of and spent the extra time with me in order to do so. They were incredibly professional, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate - something that's rare to find these days as most other medical experiences make you feel like just a number. They made me feel like family. Hayley took the extra time and attention to detail to help me fill out medical paperwork and I felt truly cared for and supported every step of the way. She was incredibly patient with me as I asked many questions and knowledgeable in guiding me through it - I appreciate that more than you know. Thank you all again for the exceptional care and kindness - you've earned every one of these five stars!

That choice can cost patients thousands of dollars but they can't be bothered even though you have to pay out of pocket. That's not something that someone does who cares about their patients. This is a practice for someone who doesn't have health insurance and wants to risk huge medical bills. But hope that you don't ever need a diagnosis code - to transfer care, to get treatment at a hospital, to go on disability - because our country uses diagnosis codes as the standard of practice, so their lack of interest in spending the time is at the expense of patient well being. Why would anyone pay for a doctor who does not care about their long term well-being or having thousands of dollars out of pocket because the provider doesn't want to learn diagnostic codes?
