Lost my office chair, broke flat screen tv, and several boxes of personal items missing. Eventually found chair delivered to another state in a storage container. Indicated would reimburse due to cost to pick up and deliver. Isn't that the business you're in? Packing for tv discarded before realized tv was broken. Needed with pictures to file claim. Was no recording of individual items/tags delivered, just dropped items and left. Requested delivery documents but never provided. Terrible and expensive experience. read more

I've experienced numerous moves, my last one was with LAWRENCE TRANSPORTATION in Roanoke, VA. The Company moved me to Richmond, VA in 2019. The Move Coordinator came to my home to give me an Estimate. She was very professional and excellent at her job. My first reason for calling Lawrence was the exterior buildings and grounds of their offices. The location is kept immaculate inside and out, which impressed me. The move was a wonderful experience. The movers were very careful and took extra special care of all my belongings, especially my furniture. Everything was bubble wrapped. I didn't ask for that service, but I was happy to see it used. I was treated so well during the entire move. The movers were very accommodating and gracious, doing anything I asked of them. The Lawrence employees I have had the pleasure of meeting, including the actual movers, were all experienced, kind, caring, professionals who truly care about the Customer and their possessions. Should I have a need to move again, there will be no doubt that Lawrence will be my first call. If they aren't available, I'll wait until they can add me to their BUSY Schedule! B.J. I've had a couple of cross country moves in my life, however, I have to recognize that this last one was the most professional and supportive I've ever done. From the office team calling to ensure all of the procedures were in place, to the accuracy and timing of the driver himself on the pick up and delivery dates, as he promised. I called the company and the rep I spoke with was very helpful, as I have more furniture to be delivered with this company, she said she will call and let me know beforehand the delivery charges. In addition they were kind enough to knock off $50.00 of the charges for the previous chair delivery. I appreciate their customer service, and willing to assist me with my questions. read more

If I could give them less than 1 star, I would. I've had to use them twice, 2013 and 2017, and it was a nightmare both times. They broke the glass of a glass top desk, lost the nuts and bolts for the beds they disassembled, and then screwed new holes in the frame to fit in new screws, and now I can't find any power cord for any appliance, because some genius decided to remove them all and pack them in an unmarked box. Given a choice, I would NEVER hire them. read more

The experience written by M.P. on 7/31/11 fits my move from North Carolina to Southern California. My husband and I have been through 5 prior corporate move which all went flawlessly. Damage was not an issue in those prior moves. In this one, we had well over $25,000 in damage to our furniture with absolutely no concern or apology by Lawrence Transportation. I had the finer pieces appraised prior to the move and so the number is very accurate. The driver for our move was also Matt. He bought along a man by the name of Frank. Additionally, a gal pal came along for the ride. I discovered later that the relocation cost included coverage for a crew of 3 - not two with a female companion. Like M.P.'s experience, Matt did not do the things we agreed to upon his arrival at my home. This also was a 2-stop move - most of the items were coming to our home with the remaining items to be dropped at a local storage facility. Storage items were to be loaded so they were the last items to come off the truck for efficiency and potentially less damage in the move. This did not occur even though Matt said he loaded the truck with this purpose. Additionally, all furniture was to be carefully wrapped in moving blankets so no wood, glass, metal etc was exposed. Actually, this is a policy of United Movers, which Lawrence Transportation is an affiliate. On the day of the move, the move felt and rushed. The estimator sent earlier in the move process had incorrectly estimated the contents of the home and there was a question of how well everything would fit on the truck. Matt assured me throughout the day that he everything would fit inside the truck. This did not occur and resulted in another truck coming later in the day. The second truck in its rush to get back to wherever it came, left items that were supposed to be loaded. Consequently, another truck had to be sent to our home to pick up the remaining items the next day. I should have been completely alarmed but by then I was just plain exhausted. Although all furniture left my house wrapped in moving blanket, very little arrived in Southern CA wrapped in blankets, hence the $25, 000 in furniture damage. Since I was unable to be at the destination for the delivery of the shipment, I hired a design and relocation firm to meet the truck and guide the unloading and placement of our household items. They called me shortly after Matt arrived to say our furniture was not wrapped and had been placed along the inside walls of the truck and had been very badly damaged from the rubbing, knocking and scratching against the walls as the truck was driven across the country. One of the solid wood dining room chairs legs was actually broken right in half! An antique Bombay French chest suffered stress fractures and scratches, along with other pieces of furniture. Piece after piece came off the truck damaged. When the design firm confronted Matt, his response on all items pointed out to him was to "just write it on the list and give it to the insurance company to handle". He was rude, dismissive and, from the design firm's perspective, found the situation extremely humorous. Some items were also damaged because they allowed the gal pal to help. The design firm had to ask her to stop helping because she broke the leg on a buffet trying to drag it - she was a tiny gal trying to move something that required 2 men to move. I could go on and on but won't - more for my sanity than the readers. Resolving all the problems for this move took close to one year. We finally had to have our corporate relocation director handle the problem because no one from Lawrence Transportation or United wanted to take responsibility for the problems. Be aware that United hires partners/affiliates that are all independently owned companies. They are also protected under the primary booking agent's insurer. Therefore, it was easy for everyone to point the finger at each other and not take responsibility. Matt is a driver for Lawrence Transportation, and supposedly their employee; yet, Lawrence Transportation distanced themselves from the problem even though it was their driver who created all the damage and problem. Lawrence Transportation took the position that we should take our "issues" to the booking agent's insurer. Not only do I not recommend Lawrence Transportation, I do not recommend United Movers. Instead, I highly recommend locating moving companies that carry out all functions in house and that will stand behind the consumer if their employees causes damage. My feelings today would be far less strident had Lawrence Transportation taken ownership of the problem and acknowledged the damage caused by their driver. We were never made whole and no one every acknowledged or apologized for the damage, inconvenience, and loss that my family experienced. Moving is hard enough. A move managed by an unprofessional company is emotionally trying. read more

I had no choice but to use Lawrence for a long distance move. It was the absolute worst experience I've ever had with any mover (and I've had several). Of the 4 guys packing my house, only two had any experience. They were nice enough guys, but they should not have been packing my house. They literally threw cabinets full of our personal belongings into boxes without wrapping items that needed to be, put books in large boxes making them a two person job to move and didn't finish the job until 4 am on the day that I was closing on the sale of the house (not fun for me who had to have the house cleaned for the walk-through at 9 am). I'm not sure if it took them so long because they didn't know how to pack or because they took so many breaks. The delivery wasn't any better, didn't finish until 10:30 pm on a dark cold night in MA. Packed the pods very poorly and several items broken including a couch, new ping-pong table, a few pictures and a light (so far). No coverage for broken items unless we removed them from the pods where they delivered them and went through them before the 9 mo. deadline (we didn't find a house until after that time and still would have had to empty the pods at the storage place). I would not recommend them to anyone. :( read more

I used Lawrence twice. Once, in 2009 to move from California to VA. Then in 2010 to move back to California. On the move east, they get a 5 star rating. They used a local California company, Cardinale Moving to pack me. Cardinale was absolutely phenomenal. On time, 3 guys, packed my whole house in a day. Cheerful, friendly, careful. Explained and showed me how they were packing all my insanely fragile things. Next day, Lawrence's driver showed up, Lewis, who was also extraordinary. He loaded the truck in less than 4 hours, with help from 1 Cardinale worker. He was meticulous with the paperwork and insisted that I double-check the inventory (as did the Cardinale packer the day before). In VA, Lewis unloaded me in record time into a 2-story townhome, with no damage to my furniture. The walls were a different story. The young workers who came to help him were less than careful with the boxes and scraped walls as they went up and down the stairs, but that was minor and easily handled. Again, the inventory review and paperwork was meticulous. On the trip west, things didn't go so well. A different driver and packing crew. The driver, Matt, did as little packing as he could get away with. He didn't review any paperwork with me, didn't give me the inventory sheets and let me double check what was being loaded. This was a more complicated move, with some of my things going to an apartment and others going into storage. All my items had been carefully separated and labeled about what went where. The 2 packers were fine and were following my directions. But the moment I'd turn my back, Matt apparently contradicted my orders. I'd find out and I had to make them redo it. So the packing took far longer than necessary. And I didn't catch all of Matt's mistakes. They packed and loaded me in one, long 12-hour day instead of packing on one and loading on the next. Needless to say, it was rushed, I was rushed and unsure of how it was all going to come together. Matt began loading the truck before he had the inventory sheets done, so I couldn't double check as he was loading. When we got to California, they were 3 days later than promised. Somewhere along the line, they picked up Matt's girlfriend, so it was only Matt and his helper unloading my truck. Lord knows what she was there for. Again, unloading took far longer than expected because he hadn't loaded the truck properly so that it was an efficient un-loading process. Worst of all, as I unpacked I discovered that things marked for storage were packed and delivered to my apartment and vice versa. I'm still sorting through the mess and it's 9 months later. Matt was aggressive and rude, arguing with me about what I wanted. So while the trip east was a 5-star experience, the trip west was a minus 2. The people in the main office in Roanoke are lovely and were very helpful, yet disappointing in the end. I had written an email explaining what had happened (and that I was missing various items) and my dissatisfaction and heard NOTHING back. If you use Lawrence, make sure you ask to have Lewis as your driver. Period. Don't accept anyone else. Lewis is a pro, he's the best mover I've ever had. And if you're in California, use Cardinate Moving, they're outstanding. read more

I had to use Lawrence as this was a corporate move. I have used other moving companies and had no issues. Lawrence doesn't deserve the 1 star. Jeff was the supervisor, he brought 1 guy to move and was supposed to bring 2. He told me he was taking inventory. The next day sent a condition list, listing almost every item in my home as damaged (he wasn't taking inventory and decided what my high value items would be - how does he know). He is a liar. Justin Key is the account manager and I took both issues up with him. He confirmed I should have 3 men to move. I immediately sent a new condition list and he said I would be treated fair. He is a liar. The move was a disaster. These guys had zero experience, flipping a $750 desk upside down and dragging it across the floor to move it. Moving dressers and tables with glass doors full of items, not unpacking them. 15 year olds would have done better throwing items in the back of a pick up truck and then taking my items 4 wheeling. I think there would have been less damage. I was told they would wrap and pack all items. They didn't bring anything to wrap with. They did not protect the home with guards or runners. I had my own blankets and they didn't use them. I was told the storage is climate control. No it is not. All white items were yellow. Leather items cracked and many bugs and urine was on my items. I filed a claim, again Justin Key said you will be treated fair. Liar. Jeff Carter Claims Mgr. sent me pennies. Giving me $20 for a desert plate that is actually a hand made pasta bowl from Italy selling used for $225. Actual cost $325 XMas gift. I provided the websites and actual items. He said this is in compliance. If you want almost every item you own to be damaged use Lawrence. If you enjoy being lied to while being apologized to with each interaction, use Lawrence. They are not professional, ethical or moral in any way, shape or form. read more

I was driving home on I-66 toward Centreville on July 22nd, 2015 around 2000 when one of their drivers (VIN #19646) decided that I was not driving fast enough for him or her. He/she moved to the lane on my right and proceeded to "pass" me and by pass, I mean, with less than 1/4 of the truck clearing my car, he/she decided he/she wanted to get back into my lane, right into my car? Fortunately, the lane to my left was clear and I was able to change lane and avoid a potentially (fatal) accident. I don't know who they hire to drive for them or if their standards involving running other drivers off the road but if that's what their company is about, I would avoid it. read more

Do not use this company!!!! Very unprofessional. Late to load, 2 hrs - then late to deliver 9 1/2 hrs. They were moving my son from Va. to Beckley W VA. We got up at 4 am and drove 3 1/2 hrs to wait for them to arrive at 9 am. They called at 10:01 to say that they had the truck in the shop from the previous day and that they would try to get the truck out of the shop around noon and still deliver that day. The dispatcher said he hoped this wasn't a problem. Who does that?? Call someone an hour after they should have arrived and they knew the day before that the truck was in the shop. When they arrived at 6:30 that night, they had transfered his goods off of the straight truck that they picked it up on and put it on a 53 foot trailer. When they opened the doors, HIS GOODS WERE THROWN IN THE TRAILER!!!!! YES, THERE WAS DAMAGE TO ALL OF HIS LIVING ROOM FURNITURE!!! They punched holes in the leather of his sofa, broke his end table, scratched and knicked up his entertainment center, and knicked up his coffee table. I encourage you to find another company. They would not give us a straight answer all day long about whether they would be delivering. The dispatcher is very rude as is Keith who is in charge of household moves. I have been a dispatcher for almost 35 years and this is not the way you treat customers. Save yourself a lot of aggravation!!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Well, they finally settled on the living room furniture that they damaged. The day of delivery, they said don't worry, we are 100 % insured. What a joke. For a broken end table, badly scratched and knicked entertainment center, knicked up coffee table, and holes punched in the leather on the sectional, he received, GET READY $125.00.
