In our case, she agreed to do a last-minute wedding, then dropped us a month before because we didn't want to use her basic vendors and tried to keep our money. The amount of extra costs we incurred as a result was horrible. She also made us feel cheap, when in reality we were just were not interested in just throwing 20k for a photographer we weren't absolutely obsessed with. We ended up spending over half a million, but with her just a horrendous experience all around.

We could throw any problem her way (last-minute cancellations, strange requests from guests, vendor contract issues) and trust her to handle it with grace, timeliness, and proper etiquette. Our wedding was not logistically easy (e.g., separate ceremony and reception venues, guests staying at a myriad of hotels throughout NYC, disparate rehearsal dinner and post-wedding brunch locations), but Jessica never once complained or described any request as out of the scope of her contract, though many requests were. Moreover, Jessica included every wedding event in her contract (including the wedding rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, and brunch), whereas other planners whom we interviewed would not. Consequently, we felt that we received incredible value for our money. We simply would not have gotten the same level of energy and responsiveness from other planners. Jessica is highly motivated, and as a result, she operates with unparalleled enthusiasm, poise, and energy. Specifically, these are a few examples of ways in which our wedding presented challenges, which Jessica confronted with total grace (never flustered or overwhelmed): 1) It was the first wedding of such a large size to take place at our wedding venue. Jessica's creativity had us using every inch of space. 2) We had the ceremony at a nearby historic synagogue, which was strict regarding permissible ceremony alterations and decorations. 3) We wanted the whole event to be kosher, including at the reception venue, which does not have many kosher wedding. Jessica was incredibly helpful in partnering with our kosher caterer who had to build out a separate temporary kitchen. 4) The "Head of Events" at our reception venue changed three times after we signed our contract. Jessica made friends with everyone, which ensured us that we would have a successful wedding celebration even though there was little continuity with the venue's personnel. 5) We wanted assigned seats for each guest, so each seat had a personalized menu. 6) There were three different spaces we wanted to use at the venue, and each had to be decorated and prepared in a different style. 7) We had a big bridal party with 12 bridesmaids and 12 groomsmen, who all had to be entertained and ready for pictures at different times. Jessica handled all of these obstacles and more with aplomb. Every interaction with Jessica was positive, solutions-oriented, and proactive. We could throw any issue her way and know that it would be handled efficiently and efficaciously. We were thrilled with our wedding. It was a magical night that we will never forget, and we owe Jessica BIG TIME for making it so special and for making the planning process more than tolerable--it was actually fun. My Experience with Happy Planning Events: A Cautionary Review…read more I am writing this to share my honest experience with Tanya from Happy Planning Events, in hopes of helping others avoid the stress and disappointment I went through. My wedding venue was ultimately canceled due to poor communication on Tanya's part and her failure to clearly explain basic contractual terms. As a professional planner, she should have guided me through the process with clarity and transparency--but instead, I was left confused and misinformed. What was promised to be a "stress-free" planning experience turned into the opposite--Tanya created more mess and work for me than she solved. She lacked basic organization and attention to detail, especially on the day of the wedding. Rather than focusing on ensuring my day went smoothly, she appeared more interested in networking with my vendors for her future business than in making sure my event was successful. She failed to keep track of our pre-planned schedule, which led to major moments being missed--including my father-daughter dance and bouquet toss. Throughout the night, she seemed more concerned about eating and staying in the air-conditioned venue than checking in with me or my husband or making sure the timeline was on track. From the beginning, Tanya made promises she didn't deliver on. I hired her as a day-of coordinator six months before the wedding. While I only paid for day-of services, she insisted on helping earlier in the process--which I initially appreciated, since this was my first wedding. However, within just two months of giving her contact information to my venue, she had already caused enough frustration with the property manager that I had to step in myself. By that point, the damage was done--he canceled our contract two months before the wedding. Thankfully, I was able to find another venue, but even then, Tanya again managed to upset the new property manager. Multiple vendors and both venue managers told me the same thing: "Your planner is very unprofessional and doesn't understand the basics of wedding planning." Despite their warnings, I held onto hope that she would follow through on the day of. Sadly, she didn't. When it came to execution, there was no flow. As the officiant, she failed to ask the DJ for a microphone (which was readily available), resulting in guests not being able to hear the ceremony. She also forgot to ask guests to stand when I walked down the aisle--something we specifically discussed in advance. A guest had to step in and call it out. Tanya is what I would call a "yes" planner--quick to agree, but slow (or unable) to follow through. I constantly had to remind her of things and even suggest solutions myself. Her behavior lacked professionalism at every turn, and she did not have the knowledge or presence of a competent wedding coordinator. What's more, Tanya was seen vaping in front of my guests--completely unprofessional and inappropriate. When she finally did get on the microphone, instead of sharing important timeline information, she spent her time talking about moving cars--something that could've easily been handled off-mic and by someone else. In the end, my experience with Happy Planning Events was full of broken promises and unnecessary stress. Tanya appeared more focused on building vendor relationships than prioritizing her client's experience or staying within budget. I strongly urge anyone looking for a true professional to look elsewhere. Don't be fooled by the branding--this service has a long way to go before it lives up to the name.

It truly looked like something out of a storybook! What impressed me the most was how hands-on Tanya was throughout the entire process. She found my venue, secured and coordinated with all my vendors, and made sure everything stayed on track without me having to lift a finger. She communicated every step of the way, which made me feel so supported and at ease. On top of that, Tanya designed the most beautiful invitations and stayed in touch with my guests to handle RSVPs and confirm attendance. That level of care and professionalism is so rare to find. Michelle helped us plan for the specific space and select decor that was going to make our party special as well as reflect our tastes. The flowers we picked out together looked great and of course tied in with the overall decoration. Michelle even made some suggestions that reduced costs for us. There were also a few surprise pieces that Michelle thought up on her own that we never would have even considered. And on top of all that, when she let me borrow her badass paper cutter. I actually called a few other planners but once I spoke to Janelle I knew I was signing up. She listened to my ideas but was honest & trust me honesty IS the best policy in this type of relationship! I was planning a blinged out event but I had no bling & my ideas were all over the place. Janelle helped me turn my ideas into a vision & that vision into a reality. She coordinated the florist and turned my venue into a wonderland, she stayed up with me after midnight going through the guest list & the seating chart & even got me a beautiful mirrored seating chart that just blew my guests away. At the last minute (the week before the wedding) my photographer wanted to charge an extra fee & for that amount Janelle got me the most amazing photographer! I mean I went from having 1 photographer to having 2 photographers AND a videographer who were able to put a spectacular slideshow together during the event & everyone was marveled & stunned thinking how did they do that! Like I can't thank her enough!!! She saved my big day!!! She made sure I had everything I needed & wanted. Even my husband was impressed! My mother who is very hard to please was impressed! I mean Janelle went above & beyond. She went to my fitting with me. She spoke on my behalf when my venue was trying to box me in. She held my hand & listened to me with all the issues I was having (friends & family). She even did something special at the end of the night that she knew I wanted but my funds were depleted & I was blown away!!!! She went online and found a few that I called for impromptu phone interviews. I was unsure how to make sure that I was getting the right person so I asked for a few samples and references from everyone. Janelle of Kayla Belle was the only one who got me what I was requesting, made me feel like she was actually listening to me about what I needed/wanted and provided great references. She was available for all of my emails and calls and foresaw things that I had no idea I needed/wanted. Seriously, there were all of these things that I didn't even think about and, as Janelle kept saying, "Don't worry about it, we made it happen." There is a LOT that goes into a loft wedding as we have to bring in all rentals, linens, decorations, flowers, etc and Janelle coordinated everything. She even brought an assistant to help, knowing that I had bitten off more than I could chew. On the day of, though, everything went swimmingly and it was literally all thanks to Janelle. I was very straight forward with her and when I had my now husband to fire her, she told him she didn't know I was upset. When we actually fired her, she left a nonchalant voicemail and text with no formal apology. We booked our wedding venue in January 5, 2019 and I was going back and forth if I wanted to hire her full service. We chose her A La Carte event designing and gave her 50% deposit on February 20, 2019. ORGANIZATION & COMMUNICATION: The first thing I noticed was she was disorganized and I did not feel like she valued our business. I observed our meetings that she didn't write clear notes on my vision. I noticed myself always initiating a follow-up for everything. For example, I needed to know a quote for a design idea and I gave her extra time to get a quote but I had to wait for a long long time. All we did was wait for her! So much so that it was 3 months to the wedding and NOTHING was done. She won't VOLUNTARILY communicate what it was that was prohibiting her from following-up with us. She would always use the excuse that she was getting too many messages from other brides and my message got lost. Yes, something personal did happen in her life and I understood that but as a business woman myself, I would have sent a formal email to ALL CLIENTS letting them know what is happening. We didn't feel like she conducted her business communications well, especially after forking a 50% deposit early on. RESOURCEFULNESS & CREATIVITY She definitely was not the most resourceful when it comes to ideas and didn't negotiate prices. All the quotes were out of this world ridiculous. I initially wanted to fill the place with white balloons, that was gonna either cost 12K, 10K or 9K. Then we wanted streamers on the walls and ceilings which will costs 25K. Me and my husband are artists and we needed someone to think outside the box. She is not that type of planner. She was not after my heart when it comes to my vision and decoration ideas. She didn't pay attention to what I've said REPEATEDLY. I told her I didn't want flowers anywhere and no table runners and no girly, frilly things. She tried to fit us in the COMMON BRIDAL BOX time and time again to do what she's done over and over again and it was absolutely frustrating repeating myself. I was VERY CLEAR from the beginning, we didn't want the basic and common wedding ideas and I urged her to think outside the box. I figured if she was proud to be creative, she can handle it..... clearly, no. WHAT WE ENDED UP DOING My husband, friends and family, especially my mom, did ALL of the decorations. It was stressful but I would rather do that than continue working with her. We didn't care about the deposit because she was stressing me out because of her lack of just basic business skills.
