More than worth an update! So Saturday my AC unit started having issues, it was still running but the air didn't feel very cold and it was struggling to keep the temperature in my house below 85. I didn't notice it until around 6pm that night so I gave Rex a call to see if they were available to come out next week. Rex told me they were pretty much booked up through Wednesday but that they installed my unit and it was unacceptable for it to be having problems so he promised me they would find a way to fit me in Monday morning. As promised a tech showed up around 10am and got right to work on it. He identified the problem and fixed it quickly. He was very thorough testing all areas of the unit and making sure it was running to his and my satisfaction. The unit was under full warranty so it didn't cost me anything for parts or labor. Laverne and Son has outstanding customer support and they really care, they made sure I was down for as little time as possible and made sure to get it fixed and let me know what was going on. We needed our AC checked on a 100+degree day. They were prompt to come out. He replaced Capacitor & a booster. Our AC stopped working and had a experienced tech out. He said he put wrong size capacitor and would burn out motor. He also said booster was not needed. Laverne & Son charged us 750 and part was 100. He also said we need a new unit 10-15,000. Coupon was not applied to service, "technician"told my wife unit needed freon then it didn't need freon it needed a $1200. TVX replaced, he didn't re-seal the unit so my struggling unit was now cooling my garage as well. Then the employee left trash in my garage, my wife gave the employee a nice cold bottle of water, he left that trash on the ground next to the unit along with the wrap he pulled off the copper lines. I talked with the employee and he stated he was already at home, he later said he would come back in his personal vehicle and take care of it but I didn't want to have anything to do with this company anymore. I called a different company they did some checking, added some freon and everything is nice and comfortable again. read more

AC went out yesterday at about 4pm right when it was 106 degrees outside. I called them right away and they scheduled me for the next day between 12-4pm. Not ideal, but that's fine I'll work with it. The lady on the phone was very nice and helpful. The next day Kyle called around 1030 saying he's running a bit early and if he could come right now. Hell yeah you can! It's already getting hot. He quickly fixed it, tuned it, and cleaned the coils cause of all the Bakersfield dust. Very reasonable prices and friendly service. Kyle was really nice and helpful with explaining what went wrong. We have used this company for years and they have been reliable and have provided good work. On the summer maintenance this year for our AC a small part was recommended to be replaced: a Packard Definite Purpose Contactor stock number C240A. LaVern and Sons charged us $250 for the part. I checked online and this exact same part can be bought for $11.42. Owner Rex explained they have overhead charges, price of gas, etc., etc...... Right. He provided an invoice said to be from another vendor who charged $350 for the part. All I can say is two wrongs don't make it right and these charges are nowhere near reasonable. read more

Life savers! Came over to my cabin house and my furnace wasn't working! It was Sunday and I was worried no one would be able to drive into the mountains to help. I searched them up and gave them call and offered to help me. They assured me I would be taken care of and made the journey from Bakersfield to PMC. They were able to find the problem and fix it with no issue. Pricing is very reasonable considering the last minute call for help. Gave me all of options and talked through each one, I never felt pressured or felt up-sold. Was able to make an appointment for install the following week. They also offered very helpful financing options. Install of my new unit took two days. Both days the crew was on time and efficient. Super polite and even was careful with closing doors so my indoor critters wouldn't get out. They even laid down plastic along their walking path to protect the flooring from damage. An update to the original review I posted on another website after the install in 2020 (which I've included below). I've had my system for 18 months and have had the semi annual services and inspections completed. The tech has always been on time and very professional. The systems have worked perfectly and maintains the set temperatures. I have the "fan mode" set to "circulate" at 15 minutes each hour to evenly distribute the air throughout the house. This eliminates any hot spots in the summer and also provides additional air filtration. We are completely satisfied with the system, the services, the equipment, and the company. I was not asked to complete this review as I've experienced in the past with previous businesses I've dealt with, but rather felt other consumers might find it useful when searching for a reliable HVAC company. I needed to replace two 28 year old split system units and over the course of one month I obtained 4 bids from well known HVAC companies in Bakersfield. LaVerne & Son was one those bids and it is very unique in that you're dealing with the owner of family owned business where it's obvious both business and family reputation are at stake. The owner, Rex, prepared the bid for two Trane HVAC split systems and was very responsive to my change requests and made adjustments as necessary offering me more than one option. The installation went smoothly and was performed by his son, who made it clear that our satisfaction was their main objective. The equipment works just as promised and I'm extremely happy with the entire project. Before and after the installation any calls I've made with questions are either immediately addressed or my call is promptly returned. You would not find this type of personal service with a national installer or a Costco special (which I NEVER considered). I highly recommend LaVerne & Son if you need HVAC services or installations. Our experience has not been positive. The wife of the owner is so rude, thinks she is better than anyone else, doesn't answer the phone. She's so unpleasant. The tech came to my home and immediately told us $4,000 repair without showing us any proof, until we requested multiple times. We finally saw photos that basically show nothing. In my opinion, if you use this company get a second, maybe third opinion. I got a second opinion and it was vastly different from LaVerne and Sons. They pushed for us to fill out financial application through Well Fargo to pay for repair. Well Fargo doesn't even do personal loans anymore. The service tech and the owner are very nice, but the wife is so rude that I will never do business with them. She's reminds me of a Karen. Called two Air Conditioning repair services in Bakersfield, Ca. to repair my less than 3-year-old AC (American Standard). I was required to pay diagnosis fees ($110.00 and $120.00) for both to come out. Both Companies said I needed a new furnace motor and they would have to order. Temperature in Bakersfield was running from 100 to 105 degrees so we would have hoped to have the AC fixed as soon as possible. One company never called me back as to the update as to when they could get a motor as they promised! The other company, who I purchased my complete Solar and HVAC system said they would order but I never heard from them. I called after two days and was told they would call me back that day to let me know the progress as to where the motor was. They NEVER CALLED BACK. The first night was so hot in the house we could not sleep so the second night we stayed in a hotel ($150.00). The next day I found a portable AC unit ($500.00) which may have been the only one in Bakersfield. We used the portable AC unit for three nights! On the second day I decided to try and locate the motor myself. I called another AC repair and they referred me to LaVerne and Son Electrical A/C and Heating! I talked to Sara who was SUPER nice and INFORMATIVE! She sounded like an infield service specialist! She was very understanding of my situation and said she could probably help me get running. I told her the complete story of the other two repair companies and she said they may have the motor but really thought it was a module and NOT the motor! She said she would try and get a repair person out that day but if not first thing the next morning! The next morning at 8AM I receive a call from the repair specialist (Kyle) that he was on his way and would be here in 15 min. When Kyle arrived, he was very pleasant and was informed as to what was going on (Great communications from Sara to Kyle)! It took him 15 min to establish the problem which was NOT THE MOTOR as the other two companies said, but the module just as SARA thought. He went back to his shop to get the module and motor just in case if needed. It is 15-20 minutes one away and he was back round trip in 45 mins just as he said! If only I would have called LaVerne and Son Electrical A/C and Heating FIRST I could have saved at least $880.00! The positive of this whole story is one, I now have AC in my house with outside temps forecasted to 106 degrees today, two I now know who NOT TO CALL for HVAC service in Bakersfield, and three the most important I now have a reliable, honest, friendly, and dependable HVAC repair company to call anytime in the future!! These guys exemplify customer service! Our A/C unit decided to quit Saturday night about 9:30. After doing some quick research and looking at reviews, I narrowed my call list for Monday morning to three different local businesses. One of the businesses said I could leave a number and they would call back when the store opened. Guess what? No call. Scratch that one off the list. LOL. I called LaVerne and Son's third but decided on them because they had great reviews, they are physically close to our house, and their phone people were friendly, professional, and helpful. I called soon after they opened and they were able to set us up with a tech between 14:00 and 17:00 the same day...today! Brenden (our tech) phoned about 30 minutes before arriving and showed up when promised. He started with the obvious, checking the thermostat, blower operation (or lack thereof, in our case), condenser and fan function in the outdoor part, then crawled up into the attic (it's 102 degrees outside, probably over 130 up there) to check the evaporator unit and fan. He diagnosed the issue as a bad capacitor for the blower motor, checked the fan bearings, blower motor current draw, etc to make sure we didn't have any imminent problems around the corner. It's now just after 17:00, he's packed up and gone, and the A/C unit is blowing cold! You just can't ask for better service than that! read more
