There was a problem with the facility apartment insurance request. I paid and submitted the forms about a month prior to move-in and the first bill over 6 weeks later included a fee for not having insurance. I tried contacting the billing office and requested a call back to get things clarified. This did not happen and the problem was not fixed. I again went to Francine who has been my anchor at the Clairmont to get problems fixed. I finally received approval of the policy on October 17th but I had submitted the information in early August! In addition the bill itself was incorrect. The dinning room food has improved, per my father, but the utensils are still awful! I do wish your administrative staff would try using the forks at the facility and imagine that they have arthritis in their hands as these residents frequently do. My dad does better with most plastic forks than the forks supplied at the Clairmont. Please, this should be an easy upgrade. One thing we really appreciate is the ability to have a pet and to have a fenced "yard" area outside of their apartment. I think this adds a homey feel for many of the residents. Better water access would be a plus for those with outside plants. You have outside waste bins for doggy waste but no plastic bags at the one outside of the building for the last 6 weeks. Your showers do not have safety bars inside of the shower, Since most of the residents at this facility use walkers, canes or wheelchairs, why do you think it unnecessary to have a safety bar inside of the shower? This would be a considerate and wise upgrade for the apartments. Overall, we (the family) really like this facility and the people who live and work there. My Dad is still adjusting......

Since then customer service quality has noticeably decreased. Front desk staff have become unresponsive and do not return phone calls. Staff was also unable to provide a new lease in a timely manner, and then multiple staff appointments to review the new lease were not kept. The facility recently switched to a different telephone provider which was poorly communicated. After the phone service was switched to the new provider, my mom's TV Service was switched off without any notification. As of now, I am still trying to get my mom's TV Service restored.

That is still the case and I especially enjoy eating with my friends. Our menus are varied with many healthy options. We have an extensive salad bar, daily choice of soup, and three entrees to select from (plus desserts). If nothing appeals, we have the option of ordering something from the "Always Available Menu" which includes such items as grilled chicken or fish, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwich, etc. We even have vegetarian options which started in response to resident requests. There is a wide variety of activities and exercise programs to keep us busy, interested and healthy. I also appreciate having transportation provided now that I've sold my car. Our driver tries very hard to get me to all my appointments as I don't have the option to use Uber due to my use of a mobility scooter.

Mom has been suffering with memory issues and although she's still really self sufficient it was becoming unsafe for her to live on her own. I spent a year searching for a place that felt like home and was within our budget. When I met Tricia in their sales department and she gave me a Tour of the community I had a feeling I found the right place. She set up for me talk to long time residents and get a feel for the community and they really seemed to enjoy their homes there. So I knew we had found the right place for mom. A few weeks in to living in her new place and I feel such a relief knowing mom is much safer and has lots of friends and activities right outside her door. Thank you Tricia and everyone at Highland Estates.

My decision, was greatly influenced by a unique employee. If not for her making me feel at home, providing me with candid information, patiently showing me the facility (more than once) and following up with not only my progress on finding a residence for my mother or any special needs my mother may have but, on how it was affecting me and counseling me on how my decision was done out of love for my mother even if I didn't choose Highland... if not for this, Highland Estates may have fallen into the proverbial "drop in the bucket" when compared to other locations. Not to say there weren't other marketing agents that were also attentive but this employee's personality, candidness and caring felt sincere and not like, well, the typical "used car salesman" approach. I am pleased to say that it has turned out to truly be her demeanor, she has continued to be sincere, attentive and concerned about my mothers well being and as I have observed, she demonstrates this with all of the guest. Trica Lohbeck was the "wow" factor that helped me make my decision to lease with Highland Estates and her continued dedication to the residents is a sound example that I see other staffers emulate. In that regards I'd also like to send compliments to the rest of the staff for their dedication to prompt maintenance support, coordination of social activities, dining options and general resident security and care. I've dined with my mother and found the meals to be very well prepared, I've asked for assistance with some minor maintenance issues and it was handled within a few hours. The friendliness of the staff and eagerness to assist with residents needs is also exceptional and I will validate it with an observation of a staffer attempting to find a way to either get a mobile pet service to visit a residents pet or make arrangements for that resident to be transported with his pet to a shop...the staffer spent some time making calls and finally finalizing a solution...above and beyond.

My grandmother doesn't have much that she can enjoy anymore but one of the few things she can enjoy is great food. The dining room is very inconsistent, and has a very high turnover rate. Not only is their food quality not resort style like they advertise but what they do cook- you better hurry- because they don't make enough of it. Another area that could use some addressing is the planning of Sunday meals (many families) and holidays... often the residents who don't have family come get left with scraps if they're not down there early enough to fight the crowd. There should be a separate eating area or food saved aside to guarantee they get the SAME meal that was advertised on the menu.

Dr. Tran is a very involved owner--she doesn't just manage from a distance, she knows every resident, every family, and is always attentive to their needs. That level of dedication gave me something priceless: peace of mind. As my mother's journey came to its final stages, the partnership with Altus Hospice made all the difference.
