No lettuce. No onions. No pickles. Nothing to it for $12. The fritters were actually decent but again, overpriced for $12 for the three little balls. Spicy mayo isn't really spicy. Everything comes out super fast and staff isn't really overly interested in being there; they seem rushed and annoyed to be working in a tourist town. Not great for large groups as the cafe is small and has limited seating. Lots of parking which is good because the area gets busy for whale watch tours. Opens at 11 am but the staff didn't open the door until about 1115. No hot drinks here, just bottled items in the cooler. We're glad we packed a bunch of food because of tiny portions and high prices.

Portions weren't huge and many items didn't come with a side. However, the salad of the day was quite refreshing. We didn't try the other restaurant (at the Lodge), so not sure if we'll this is the better of the spots for Brier Island (unless you pack a picnic). Seating indoors was limited. Recommendation: Give it a whirl if you don't feel like packing a lunch!

Our third stay here and the food was not good, also we had reservations one night for 7, arrived and were told as some of the staff had quit or phoned in sick so we would have to wait. Names were put on a list and we were told that it would be an hour wait. Over two hours later we were seated and it took over 53 minutes to get our food. My chicken was raw. While waiting we were not offered drinks or snacks. When one person asked if it was possible to get a drink the owner/manager said that might be okay. She also had no clue if they had non alcoholic beer or scotch. We asked 12 people if the owner had apologized and the answer was no, the owner also left about 9 and left the staff to deal with all the problems. I feel the staff did a great job, but the owner could not even serve or help people. The people that had ordered drinks had to pick them up 21 minutes after they ordered as the owner forgot.

I was with a large group, we brought wine with us and wine glasses were brought to the table immediately, along with ice water and warm rolls. I ordered the haddock, those around me went with scallops, mussels and seafood chowder and everything was fresh and delicious. My only suggestion is with the vegetable side, which appears to always be peas and carrots...I guess I would check in with the customer on that when ordering. I had no idea that peas and carrots were automatic, I don't eat cooked carrots, and they could have been saved for another customer. Dessert was a BIG hit with the group. Three ordered GIGANTIC slices of coconut cream pie and one, a most perfect slice of strawberry rhubarb with cold house made vanilla ice cream slowly melting on the top. Overall, a lovely night. A comfortable restaurant, where you can dress up if you wish, or not, with extremely fresh seafood prepared excellently.

When my wife and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon, I was in luck because the scallops and fish combo was one of the daily specials, clocking in at just $21! My other half, not being a big seafood person, opted for a cheeseburger. Having arrived well after the main lunch crowd, we had our food in quick order and ate indoors, taking a break in their AC. My plate of brown, deep-fried goodness wasn't exactly a poster child for the Canada Food Guide, but it sure was good! The scallops had a light dusting of breading before hitting the fryer, and they were a perfect doneness - not too soft, and not at all rubbery. Being minimally adorned as they were, the sweetness of the scallops took its rightful spot at centre stage. The fish portion of the plate was comprised of three small filets of haddock, with a light breading on the exterior. I do prefer a crisp, airy beer batter, but the quality of the fish stole the show, as it flaked easily in solid chunks, but wasn't mushy or shredding to tiny bits. It was one of those times where the fish was so good that I only used the tartar sauce for my fries. Said fries were the standard, from-frozen fries that I think of as "diner fries", but they were good and crisp on the outside, with fluffy interiors, so they were about as good as they can be. On the upside, the fries acted as a delivery mechanism for one of the best tartar sauces I've ever had! Heavy on the minced pickle chunks, the tartar sauce had a sweetness to it that reminded me of mustard pickles (in the best possible way). When a place does a simple thing like this so well, it really make all the others that just do packets of Kraft look even worse. Although far from being the star of the show, my wife's cheeseburger was a solid, diner-style burger. Carla's was just what I was looking for while in Digby - down home style seafood that's well-executed without pretension.

I tried the apricots chicken rapure- she said it was a French dish, basically mashed potatoes around a few chucks of chicken and then deep fried. I wasn't impressed. My husband got the wings.
