Great venue with an amazing view of the vineyard. Service was excellent. Wine was decent. They also offer a free tasting if you buy a bottle. One of the prettiest vineyards that we visited.

Lava cap is a great place to go for wine tasting, relaxing, or to have lunch. They have a patio overlook where you can bring your own food to enjoy the view! The service was friendly and kind! The wine was great! Highly recommend buying a bottle and enjoying some time during your Apple Hill visit!

Came here about a month ago. Thus is Such a beautiful and serene winery. I love everything here. Chris my somm was such an easy going guy and welcoming. I love how he was knowledgeable and warmth. Lots of great wine here and I ended up becoming a member because I can definitely see myself and my friends hanging out here on the weekends. A good stop if you are in Placerville area. Love the new Rose and Barbara.

This is a gorgeous winery with the nicest workers! Dropped in for a quick wine tasting and was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful views, great prices, outdoor heaters, and blankets.

Had such a delightful wine tasting here - we went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't busy at all. The wines were so good we ended up buying 6 bottles to take home! They even let us sample their dessert wine which was so wonderful we also got a bottle of that. The value you get for the tasting is top notch. Service was above and beyond and the patio was beautiful and delightful.

It was a very nice day and it was beautiful sitting out on the patio area. There was no food available. Service was quick and friendly. The tasting they gave you was very slight. It's the smallest amount I've ever had on a tasting.

Lava Cap is one of our favorite wineries. They make excellent wine and their location in the apple hill area of the sierra foothills is a gorgeous setting. We are long-time wine club members and on this last visit, after tasting, took a chilled bottle of rose down to a table by their fragrant blooming lavender and shared one of their charcuterie boxes. Perfect way to relax and enjoy a beautiful day!

Fun relaxing winery where you can have a tasting for $15. Service is great they explain everything and are very friendly without being pushy about purchasing or memberships. You might get to see the winery cat hanging around he's friendly. Fun place and stop when visiting Apple hill.

Wonderful scenery and staff. They also have a great deal where if you buy a bottle of wine, your tasting is free! I believe the wines were slightly underwhelming and quite frankly...a little watery. Really thin and lacking of potency.

From beautiful views, serene environment, friendly staff having fun entertaining guests. This was the perfect afternoon getaway to read a book and enjoy a fall day. They have charcuterie boards for purchase or bring a picnic, purchase a glass or wine, and sit and enjoy. The gentlemen working this day were high energy, knowledgeable, and full of recommendations. If you're in Apple Hill, be sure to go!

Celebrating a Birthday with friends and family. Beautiful setting and weather We brought our snacks and cake. The service was amazing and assisted us in every way. Thank so much!!

One of my favorite wineries in the area. Really nice views from their deck or just below it and great wines. Highly recommended.

They used to serve food (which was amazing, RIP), but thankfully they still offer their cheese boards (which are 10/10). The views are a whole experience on their own--especially if you can sit at the member pavilion overlooking the water, which is super scenic and peaceful. Starfield continues to be such a lovely spot with friendly service, even with the food changes. As long as they keep pouring delicious wine, we'll definitely keep coming back!

The ambiance, the guided experience, and the overall vibe were exactly what I had hoped for. Our waitress was exceptional--knowledgeable, incredibly friendly, and she made us feel right at home. We truly couldn't have started his birthday any better. As for the food, I was a bit bummed that there wasn't a lunch or more robust meal offering. It slightly diminished the overall poshness of the experience, as we would have loved something beyond charcuterie while enjoying the wine. That said, we still had a wonderful time--and even became members--so that says a lot. I do hope they expand their food options in the future. If you're looking for a great atmosphere and delicious wine, I would absolutely recommend checking them out.

Add a glass of their Syrah or Pinot, and it doesn't get much better than that. You can tell Marco Cappelli is a master of his craft. They're sustainable, high-quality, well-made wines and unlike anything I've had before. I was there on the weekend and treated myself to their pizza, which was amazing! Perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with the wine. I also tried their charcuterie platter, which was the perfect complement to the tasting. I loved how thoughtful their wine club is, too--it's a refillable bottle system, which makes it eco-friendly and super convenient. This spot is an absolute hidden gem, and I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Placerville.

We ordered at the bar inside and then the wines were brought out to us on the patio. It took longer than expected to get our flights, and then we were a bit disappointed that the sommelier didn't spend much time telling us about the wines. She brought them out and told us what each wine on the flight was, then left and we never saw her again. We've had several amazing tasting experiences in wine country where the sommelier tells you many more details about the wines including where on the property the grapes are grown, how it is made, and what different notes we will taste in each wine. It was a pretty basic explanation and we didn't feel that it was very personable despite it being a slow weekday. We ordered two tastings but all the wines were brought out in small carafes, we couldn't tell if each one held enough wine for one of us or both of our tastings combined. This wasn't ever explained either, so we assumed it was for both of us to share. We still enjoyed having our wines on this beautiful property, and we were able to have our baby with us which was nice. We weren't very impressed with the wines themselves and did not have any favorites that we needed to purchase bottles of. It is $10 for a glass or a tasting which was quite the deal. The prices and atmosphere were great, but the wine and overall experience was average.
