Some friends went for lunch on Christmas Day and had an 8 course meal (inc wine and coffee). One of the courses was oysters which they chose not to have and instead were given a platter of huge prawns and the lot (4hours worth) cost 28 Euros. Not bad eh! Our lunch with four courses, coffee and wine cost 14 Euros. Well worth a visit.

The place isn't hard to find, as it's the only restaurant on the main road through a very small village. The first time I came there, however, was 16 September 2014 - the holiday season was over and it appeared to be closed. Luckily it was open, but my wife and I were the only guests. I remember seeing a sign "snack bar" somewhere, but inside there's a room with a pleasurable atmosphere. They serve hamburger and fries (chips) if you want, but they serve regional delicacies as well. My favourite is the "confit de canard", which is better here than in other, more expensive restaurants in the region. But it gets even better! The waitress (/owner?) was an absolute delight! We don't speak French, she doesn't speak English, but we communicated very well. Very soon my wife and I both felt a fondness for her (which I find unusual). We were so pleased that we came back 2 days later; again a wonderful evening. Unfortunately our vacation has ended. If we had stayed longer, we would've eaten there much more often.

The staff was friendly and engaging, and the owner always took time to say hello and ask for feedback making the experience more personal. Over all, the ambience was wonderful and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone staying near Montcuq, or even walking through on the Route de Compostelle!

Unfortunately it is only open in the summer as the current owner isn't too bothered about running a bar. Having said that, he is friendly, speaks excellent English and loves the area, its language (Occitan, tho not much spoken now) and traditions. There is no food but a good selection of interesting beers and wine at reasonable prices. The decor isn't up to much but in good weather you can sit outside in the sun and enjoy looking at the arcaded square and the people passing by. Saturday morning is market day.
