Oh my goodness, let me tell you about my love affair with little hole in the wall Mexican local shacks! These places are just the best! They're cheap, delicious, and so down to earth, I can't get enough of them! I was in downtown El Paso and feeling like I needed some caldo, and I asked the owner of JR Tradings where the best place to get caldo was and he pointed at the yellow building around the corner. There were a lot of people hanging outside but I saw that they took credit cards so I was game. The last place that I went to downtown to try to get some caldo only took cash so I couldn't try it. First of all, let's talk about the prices. I mean, seriously, have you ever seen such affordable Mexican food? It's like the owners of these little shacks know that we're all broke and just trying to get our taco fix without going bankrupt. And the portions are HUGE! I'm telling you, I could eat a burrito the size of my head for just a few bucks at Laurita's. And don't even get me started on the flavors. These little shacks know how to pack a punch in their food. The spices, the sauces, the salsas...it's all so dang delicious. Every time I take a bite, I feel like I'm getting a little taste of heaven. And it's not just the typical tacos and burritos, either. These shacks have all kinds of authentic Mexican dishes that I've never even heard of, but can't wait to try. But what I love most about these little hole in the wall Mexican local shacks is the down to earth atmosphere. You don't need to dress up or worry about fitting in. Everyone is welcome, and everyone is there for the same reason: to chow down on some bomb Mexican food. So if you're looking for an affordable, delicious, and down to earth Mexican food experience, head to your nearest little hole in the wall local shack. I took my caldo to go because my meter was running but it was just as delicious at home with the meat just falling apart and so flavorful! Trust me, you won't regret it! I loved the food! Its near downtown El Paso and the reviews encouraged my visit! It did not disappoint! It does not look like much on the outside but dont let that discourage you. It stayed busy all the time we were there! The employees were very sweet and kind!

    El Taquito - Flautas- excellent!

Amazingly good flautas for an incredibly reasonable price. (They have other dishes too, but that's…read morewhat they are known for!) Beans and rice on the side are optional / modest extra charge - they are usually very good and worth adding if you're hungry enough. My favorite sauce is the Chipotle. It's got heat as it's also creamy...I would call it medium (I like spicy food.) If you're getting them to go, you might want the sauce and toppings on the side. They usually ask about that, but occasionally they might forget. Service is usually friendly and efficient even when they are busy. Your food is made to order, so it's fast but not instantaneous. Allow 5-10 minutes for pickup most of the time. The dining room is medium-sized. I would say it's a place to eat and go, not stay and linger.

Stopped at El Taquito for breakfast during our move from WA to TX, and it was such a great choice…read more The staff was incredibly friendly, and the whole place had that warm, local-favorite vibe. We ordered the flautas with chipotle sauce and the chilaquiles with half red and half green sauce. The chilaquiles were absolutely amazing. We added a runny egg since we couldn't do chicken, and it gave the dish extra flavor and a good boost of protein. The flautas (which I'd honestly describe more as taquitos dorados) were crunchy and tasty. We liked the chipotle sauce that came with them, but we actually loved dipping them into the chilaquile sauce even more. Overall, it was a great spot to grab breakfast before hitting the road again for many more hours. Highly recommend!

I think solid is a perfect word for this place. Not the best Mexican food I've ever had, but not…read morethe worst. I bumped it up to four stars for the super friendly service and the excellent aguas frescas. We got there late, about an hour before closing and they were literally trying to get rid of the aguas for free. I guess they have to dump it if they don't use it all. It was close to our hotel so we gave it a try. Portion sizes are good. The taco platter comes with six tacos! I had the flautas Chinampa which came with four beef flautas, beans, rice, and salad. I forgot, the taco platter even came with a baked potato. Prices were excellent. We had gone to McDonald's in the morning and spent more. They also cave us frijoles charros for free. Not sure if this was standard or if they were also trying to get rid of it. I would return for the service and the convenience, but if you're looking for life changing Mexican cuisine, it's not here. What you get is a good amount of decent food at a good price served by great people.
