After a series of injuries, my running coach recommended massage therapy. Lauren is conveniently located ~0.5mi from my apartment, so it was an easy sell. Plus, did someone say massage?! No need to twist my arm. I signed up for my first deep tissue massage not really knowing what to expect. Lauren was warm, welcoming and professional. First things first, she performed a thorough pre-massage questionnaire. During which she was clearly interested in understanding what my issues and needs were which I much appreciated. Anyone who has ever had a deep tissue massage will understand why I'm electing not to go into the specifics of the massage experience itself. Suffice to say, Lauren found the sources of my problem and was meticulous in working the problem areas. After the first session, I was officially hooked! Therapeutic Massage by Lauren is the perfect complement to rigorous training. I've seen other therapists in the past, but none have been as knowledgeable and effective at getting me to a healthy, injury-free place with regard to my training. read more

I've had plenty of massage, therapeutic and other healing arts over the years and I have to say I think Lauren is the BEST I've experienced. She is extremely professional- from her booking system to her "table"-side manner. She is also very intuitive and experienced/educated in terms of touch. She was able to feel and manipulate trouble spots on my body that most practitioners don't notice or don't know what to do with. I had my first massage with her last summer when I was recently post-partum and that was equally wonderful. She is conveniently located in Columbia Heights with easy parking, no stairs to climb, and has a clean, personal, cozy space. Her prices are fair and reasonable, especially considering her educational degrees and certifications. I can recommend her with flying stars- she is just GREAT. read more

Lauren obviously worked hard to make sure that I was comfortable. She also made a point of talking about any health issues/concerns and/or "problem areas" beforehand. If I still lived in D.C., I'd definitely go back to her. read more

Great work! My hip was bothering me from heavy running, but Lauren's work really helped work the pain and stiffness away. Highly recommended for sports injuries. read more

I'm a fan. I was late for my appointment, but in the half the time, she had me feeling less kinked up that full hour appointments I've had in the past. I will be back soon. read more

Lauren has been a great therapist for a long time. If you need someone in Washington DC she should be your go to therapist. Her skill and knowledge is excellent. read more

Lauren is amazing. If you are looking for more than a salon-style fluff massage, she is for you. I'm seeing her for a sports injury, and her work has sped up my recovery process by leaps and bounds beyond what I was getting in just physical therapy. I searched for months to find a good massage therapist in DC, and tried out a few different places only to find massage after massage that put me to sleep with soothing music. Now, there is a place for soothing music-- but for me massage is more about deep tissue work. Lauren delivers for that. read more

Bottom level one room house with the massage in the front. Dog barking made the experience nothing special.

I have used massage therapy, yoga, and physical therapy to heal the over stressed muscles in my lower back a that modern medicine said was in need of surgery. I have had many massage therapist work on me in the past 10 years. So far to date Lauren has been the most skilled and through massage therapist. Her attention to the smallest muscle fiber and it's connection to the overall balance with all the muscles in the body is superb. She always has important and useful feedback on where there is more tension and how to "stretch at home" to address the specific area. Lauren has great scheduling and competitive rates. I highly recommend her! read more

Sadly, I no longer live in DC, and thus cannot enjoy the relaxing splendor that is a massage by Lauren Piro. Seriously, she's the best. As soon as you talk through her door, her countenance puts you at ease, no matter what stress you were carrying. And she's totally insightful with massage: she always knows how your muscles are interconnected, so while you may see her for a shoulder problem, she'll help you realize that your pain may be associated with muscle groups other than your shoulder. But most importantly, Lauren identifies and alleviates all your knots and tightness in an hour. She was my godsend during thesis-writing, I only wish I could have taken her with me to California! read more

Lauren is great! It was my first massage ever and she made me feel very comfortable, plus if felt so good!

I think Lauren is an excellent massage therapist, she is very thorough in asking questions about problem areas and also in answering any questions you may have. I was extremely relaxed and comfortable, and I felt great after the massage, I would definitely recommend her! read more

Lauren is a very thorough massage therapist who asked about health concerns, problem areas and any other special concerns before beginning the massage. She operates out of her home, which is a short walk from the Columbia Heights metro stop. The room and massage table are very comfortable and soothing. I don't usually like to pay $75 for a 1-hour massage, but with the Yelp deal, it was a decent value. read more

I've always been one of those people who very much appreciates a good massage, but after seeing Lauren I was amazed at how little I knew of the scope of the therapeutic benefits involved. After Lauren's massages, I became aware of the benefits of a holistic approach to general well being. Lauren is extremely adept at making this evident because she addresses all issues from the physical, to the psychological, to the emotional, with her positive energy, touch and unparalleled skill. It is a privilege to receive a massage from Lauren; she is truly a master in the art of massage therapy. read more

I ran the Marine Corps Marathon and Lauren helped me recover from my post race muscle soreness. I was super relaxed after the massage, and would really recommend Lauren to others. read more

I had one of the best massages in my life by Lauren. She's very skilled and knows how to blend different styles of massages well to best suit the needs of her clients. I would highly recommend her. read more

Lauren is amazing. I saw her regularly for a time, then that thing called LIFE got in the way, and after a roughly three year "pause" I finally *made* the time for a long overdue therapeutic massage. Much has changed for me / my body since our last encounter, but as another reviewer noted Lauren is very intuitive and knew exactly where to find my trouble spots. I knew from my previous experience with Lauren that the massage would be wonderful, and frankly it was even better. I've squeezed in a few other massages while on travel and the treatment I received from Lauren far exceeded all of those combined. As silly as this may sound, it's as though her fingers have magnets that somehow manage to pull the pain out of achy, tight, overly used parts. Her space is cozy, inviting, clean and safe - all of which also reflect Lauren herself. The healing process can be challenging, even scary, yet Lauren somehow makes it a truly joyful and deeply rewarding process. Obviously I can't say enough good about Lauren (nor can I fathom why oh why I waited so long between treatments). I am so grateful she continues to share her gifts with us [all too often worn out] DC peeps. If you're in need of pain relief, an energy boost and/or just all around awesome feeling, go see Lauren. Trust me, the only thing you'll come to regret is not seeing her more often. read more

Lauren was excellent in my very first massage ever . She was extremely professional and the entire environment was very relaxing and comfortable.. She worked out some of my shoulder pains that I'd been having and explained to me some things to help strengthen my posture and body so hopefully I can avoid more pain in the future. She was not pushy in any way to have me come back, simply saying it is however my budget and overall feeling of wanting to get another massage is. I would highly recommend Lauren to any newcomers or people who already get massages. read more

Truly wonderful massage experience!!! I recently moved back to DC, and after two very intense weeks of packing, moving, driving, unpacking, blah blah blah, I was sooo tense that I couldn't even get a good night of sleep. After a 45 minute session with Lauren I felt amazing, and best of all...AWESOME SLEEP :) read more

Great massage at a reasonable price. Lauren was also willing to fit me in when I needed her to at last minute due to some serious back/neck pain that I was going through. When so many day to day experiences have gone the way of Starbucks and Subway franchises, it feels good to support a small business here in DC. read more

Lauren Piro gives a fabulous course of instruction on infant massage. Sitting side by side with us, Lauren used an infant massage doll to show us a wide variety of strokes and presses on baby's legs, feet, belly, chest, back, and head, while we followed along. The best part of her teaching style is that I didn't feel like I was being "taught," per se, but rather was led on a journey of fun exploration with my baby. My husband and I learned a lot about the health benefits of the strokes and saw first-hand the immediate calming effect it had on my very active boy. Also, Lauren's presence was soothing for both me and my baby. The atmosphere also was perfect for this: lights dimmed, music playing lightly in the background, and temperature warm and cozy. My whole family continues to enjoy the benefits of the infant massage. I highly recommend learning infant massage from Lauren! read more

I had my first massage with Lauren this week and it was amazing! So good, in fact, that this is my first Yelp review so that I could tell everyone how great she is. I made and appointment with Lauren because I couldn't get in with the woman I have been seeing. I run and bike and do a lot of other exercise and I told her I like really heavy pressure. She did just that. She asked questions about my massage history and health concerns and was very attentive to what I told her. I will definitely be returning to Lauren regularly. I get massages about every other month, but I can only think of one other massage that was even close to being as good as the one I got this week! read more

Great massage! The pressure was perfect and Lauren knew exactly which back muscles needed the most work.

Lauren is very skilled in her craft of therapeutic massage, and takes the time to identify and meet your goals for your massage session. I received two much needed deep tissue massages from her in the span of two weeks. I strongly believe in the power of massage to help relieve tension, stress, and sleep better, and Lauren definitely help relieve all three. I highly recommend her! read more

Lauren gave me my first professional massage and I couldn't have had a better experience. Not only did she make me feel comfortable, but she addressed all of my health issues beforehand. I went to see her after completing a marathon and arrived at her door barely walking. When I left, not only could I walk much more comfortably, but my range of motion was greatly improved. Worth every penny. read more

This was truly a great massage experience! This was the best massage that I'd ever received, and the place definitely has ambiance. I felt extremely comfortable in Lauren's care, as it's clear she's a very casual but conscientious person. Also, the location is great! (C-heights what wha?!?) read more

Great experience and strongly recommend. Lauren was professional and great at addressing my needs. She did wonders for the pain/tension in my neck and upper back. I will be going back to see her again! read more

Lauren is fabulous! I've had a lot of massage in my life, and she is my favorite. Always thorough and exhaustive, but also gentle enough that therapeutic massage is relaxing, which is certainly not always the case. Great for me as a musician, as well. Extensive knowledge of typical tensions and sources of discomfort, and always quick with a solution I can utilize on my own time. I recommend her to everyone! read more

I too have had many many massages over the years, therapeutic and otherwise, and Lauren is a real talent, professional, skilled, and very knowledgeable. (She's also a lovely person!) I've been seeing her monthly for several months now following a back-related injury, and since I've been doing these monthly massages with Lauren, my back hasn't gone out or had any other significant issues. Her table is very comfortable, as is the space, and she is very thoughtful about ensuring her clients are happy with the temperature, etc. Cannot recommend highly enough! read more
