Excellent Dr! Really cares about the patient and spends a lot of time on each visit. Staff is very organized.

Not only did Dr. Choi continually talk down to me, she showed no concern for me as a patient, my needs, and she was rude. Though Dr. Choi spoke to me at length, what she said seemed to be a pat speech, most of which I already knew. I feel the way she runs her practice is a "money" grab. You can only see her for one ailment per visit, regardless of whether you've had prior authorization. In addition, she had no grasp of what drugs were covered by insurance even though it showed prior approval in my chart ; she literally said she didn't care. In conclusion, if you have any kind of need to see an endocrinologist unless you have no other options, do yourself a favor and stay clear of Dr. Choi. read more

Disappointed in her curt and unhelpful information of patient status during and after visits. She apparently thinks that only she is entitled to the patient's status and her written notes. Not helpful when you're trying to maintain good health and would like to know what she is recording in your files. Contrary to other reviews -- she does not want you to know what is needed to care for yourself. read more

I've been seeing Dr.Choi for many years now and find her to be a very kind,considerate professional who is a very knowledgeable endocrinologist and who spends time with you and educates you on your condition. Never have I felt rushed or leave with questions, she has answered and explained them fully. Diabetes encompasses much of the body and she always takes in consideration one's heart, eyes, kidneys and pancreas when prescribing one's meds. I am thankful for having such a caring, intelligent Doctor who also has a great staff supporting her. read more

This rating is for the appointment wait time and how Dr. Choi's staff handled the rescheduling. I had an appt. for the end of August of 2024. The office called and left a message that the Dr. was not going to be in that day and that they would need to reschedule. Try to guess when they rescheduled me for? January 31, 2025, this is absolutely unacceptable. I am supposed to be seen every 3 months and they have just pushed my appt. out 8 month from my last appt. date. I like Dr. Choi, but I will be looking for another Endocrinologist. read more

While Dr Choi and her staff are very nice, her medical business practices put patients lives at risk and she is aware and has done nothing to remedy. As an insulin dependent diabetic having supplies on hand is critical, life or death. We need preauthorization for these critical supplies. Needing more supplies, insurance required pre-authorization before processing the order. These supplies were needed within 48 hours. Even using the 'expedited' line with Dr Choi, her staff took over 2 weeks to process the authorization. Calling the office today, the receptionist told me that Dr Choi and the office are aware of this issue and delay. This is clear negligence as these supplies are needed to keep patients alive! This has happened multiple times over the past few years and we've not had enough. We will be finding a new endocrin doctor. read more

This doctor is amazing! Look no further for an Endochronologist. She is extremely knowledgeable with a bedside manner that is over the moon great. Her staff is well trained, professional & courteous. The wait time from checking in to seeing this doctor is excellent. In & out in a reasonable amount of time with a thorough visit from this wonderful doctor. I've seen other Endochronologists for my Hashimoto's Disease & Type II Diabetes but have never had anyone as knowledgeable as Dr. Choi. She's really a once in a lifetime doctor. Dr. Choi is a very unusual doctor. During my first visit to her office I had to complete the longest and the most extensive questioner I ever found in a doctor's office. During my appointment Dr. Choi took a very long time to explain to me what are the origins and consequences of my medical problem. I do not remember spending so much time with any doctor (probably close to 30 minutes). I left her office learning so much more and understanding my medical condition so much better!. Quick version: Front office staff sucks, but Dr. Choi is worth dealing with them. I was having some weird symptoms so my primary doctor referred me to Dr. Choi to see if an actual endocrinologist might have better insight into my problem. I had to take off one star for the horrible front office staff. When I called to make an appointment, I was told to arrive at least 15 minutes early to fill out new patient forms, which is pretty standard. I arrived at 2:20 for my 2:45 appointment. The rude receptionist asked for my paper referral and my debit card, and nothing more. At 3:00 I asked if the doctor was running behind, since I'm now the only person who hasn't been called back. She insisted that the doctor wasn't late and that I was about to be called back, plus she snottily replied that not everyone was seeing the same doctor. By 3:15, I still hadn't been called so I went to tell the receptionist I was leaving. As I was leaving, a nurse called me back. The nurse who checked me in was wonderful! She explained that a few patients had screwed up the schedule by asking for a one-month or three-month checkup, only to show up with tons of symptoms and medical problems, thus delaying everyone. Imagine my surprise when the nurse pulled up my lab results and medical history! If your PCP is in the Torrance Memorial Physician Network, you're already in their system and no additional paperwork is needed. The nurse, who clearly had better communication skills than the receptionists, apologized for the wait and then let me know that the doctor was just finishing up with a patient and then I was next. Doctor Choi came just a few moments later and was very sweet. I get anxiety in doctor's offices, but she was friendly, personable and funny. More importantly, she is incredibly thorough. She listened to each of my symptoms, took careful notes and asked lots of questions to make sure she had the right information. She also repeated back information as she was typing. In all, we spent about an hour ruling out a few possible diseases/conditions and then she went over what types of labs she'd like to see to get a clearer picture. She was very reassuring and encouraging along the way. She even told me funny stories as she was typing to make the wait less awkward. Best of all, I am very overweight and I appreciate that she didn't bring it up or rush to blame my symptoms on my size, as many doctors have in the past (hence my anxiety). When I told her I was pursuing weight loss surgery, she said it may help the situation, but that she still wanted to be sure there were no other underlying issues. You may have to wait a little longer than planned, but Dr. Choi is worth it! Also, there is a cafe with a full Starbucks downstairs to pass the time! read more

Dr. Choi is very personable and I drive out of my way because she was able to get my (low) thyroid symptoms under control and doesn't take a standard textbook approach, as in, she did blood tests until the dosage was correct for me, not for a man with my weight and height (like other doctors had done). read more

I was recommended to see Dr, Lauren Choi's because my orthopedist was concerned about continuing treatment for osteopenia and preventing osteoporosis. At the same time, I began to see Dr. Choi for Type 2 Diabetes, I like how Dr, Choi always has the time to explain what I need to do for my bones and how to take care of my Type 2 Diabetes. She caring and has a great sense of humor, which always makes me comfortable in her office. read more

Dr. Choi takes her time to explain conditions, makes sure you learn what is wrong with you and goes over how to treat the conditions. Quick version: Dr Choi is not worth your time. She thought it was important that I knew she lived in Palos Verdes. She told me about other patients she has treated that had nothing to do with my situation. I was there because my PTH level was high. When the PTH level is high your bones release calcium constantly into the bloodstream. This is not a good thing. The parathyroid glands continue to make large amounts of PTH even when the calcium level is normal, and they should not be making the hormone at all. This can lead to many diseases and the only option is surgery to remove the bad parathyroid gland. Dr Choi completely ignored the PTH level and instead focused on the calcium level. Everyone knows that the calcium levels can fluctuate and are not used to diagnose hyperparathyroidism. Dr Choi chose to ignore the PTH level and instead asked me to consider a sleep study as insomnia was listed as one of my symptoms. Insomnia is one of MANY symptoms of hyperparathyroidism. If insomnia was my ONLY symptom I would not need to see an endocrinologist. Dr Choi was a huge waste of my time. read more

Dr Choi is a very competent doctor but she is very bad in her follow up. Her office staff is even worse. I was told by the doctor to make an appointment 1 month after my follow up visit. I could not make a followup appointment during my visit at her office because the staff was out to lunch. When I called a few days later I was told by the desk person that she was on vacation and I could not make an appointment until 6 weeks later. Since my blood glucose level was high I was concerned about the length of time especially when the doctor said to come back in 4 weeks not 10. The desk person could care less and said that the doctor is very busy. I found a new endocrinologist that could see me within 7 days and was told to obtain all tests that were performed from Dr. Choi. I called Dr. Choi's office and of course no answer at 2:30 PM in the afternoon and left a message as well as my telephone number to let me know when I could pick up my blood tests. Of course no return phone call. Totally irresponsible office. read more

During my visit, the front office staff was extremely helpful, courteous, and expeditious. Even during my first visit, I waited no longer than 10 minutes. Dr. Choi is extremely knowledgeable and informative. She explained what my symptoms were a part of, and even drew a picture for me. She explained how the body takes time to verify certain endocrine diseases. Therefore she referred me to the lab for a blood test, and then asked to see me in a month to verify that her assessment and the blood test are in sync. Today I learned how detailed and specific Endocrinology is. I am so glad I came to her. It is important for me to keep my health in check. read more

Dr Lauren Choi is the worst! Waste of time! She spent most of my appointment talking about herself! Very narcissistic! Horrible uncaring person! She missed diagnosed me after speaking to me for 2 minutes! Then insuted me over and over! When I went on my follow up to hear my test results she ran in the room and said... They were in normal range and wanted to run out. I had questions she rolled her eyes and said ugh What! I will never go back! She should not be a doctor!!!!!!! read more

If you are looking for an Endocrinologist that actually cares about how you FEEL v. what your labs say, keep looking. I had an excellent first appt with Dr. Choi. She decreased my medication (that had been increased just before I saw her) so she could get a clearer picture of what was going on. I agreed even though I knew I'd feel sub-par for a while. I followed her plan for 2 months and went back today. She was unwilling to entertain adjusting my medication unless I stayed at her dosage for another 2 months despite my continued severe symptoms. She told me weird stories about how she had a husband call her and threaten to divorce his wife if Dr. Choi did not increase his wife's meds, and then stories about having to explain to old people why their skin sags. She told me that my health was only going to get worse at my age. I JUST TURNED 48!! She told me to move closer to her. . . okay, I did, and she told me how all my symptoms were in my head. Really? I wonder why I've been on thyroid meds for 10 years then? She told me it was totally normal to gain 7 lbs in a week if you eat 2 pieces of chocolate. I have never had such a strange experience with a physician as I did with her. I actually left a dr. office in tears for the first time in my life. I thought I was being diligent digging a little deeper with my thyroid issues but clearly this detour was a waste of time. And, her front office is nightmarish. I tried calling for 2 days with questions about having my blood drawn. The phone goes straight to voice mail even during business hours and they call back "in the order your message was received." Except they never call back. The lab even called to tell me that I should tell the dr. to answer their phones or at least have a bypass for physicians/labs, etc. They left 3 messages the day my blood was drawn and never got a call back either. read more

Well, I guess I could take a star off for not getting phone calls back like someone else did here, but I have been so impressed with Dr. Choi during the couple of years I have been treating with her I just can't! She is such a caring, competent endocrinologist I do not see the basis for these criticisms at all. She listens carefully to me, spends whatever time is necessary, gives great advice, and motivates me to do better in my struggle with diabetes. She has even spent time during my visits helping me deal with personal issues! How many doctors do that today?! She is ACES with me. Highly recommended! read more
