Camp-Ruff - Pups loving the outdoors

I heard about this boarding facility through a friend and decided to check it out as I am always…read morelooking for a place where my dog could be comfortable and feel right at home when I was travelling or needed a short stay for my pup. I looked at the owner's website www.camp-ruff.com which describes their facility as a "lux camp" for dogs and puppies. I was intrigued and called for an appt to view the property and see the operations. I was met by the Camp Director/Owner, a delightful, sincere woman named Lucinda. She greeted me and my dog and proceeded to show me the camp home, which is divided into sections based on the needs and behaviors of the various dogs she was boarding. She listened to my description of my dogs needs, habits and observed her to judge how she would behave w other dogs. One by one she let a dog out from the house, where they have their "sleep over", cautiously to see what my dog would do. As the animals were about my dog's size everyone seemed to accept each other. Great news! Lucinda decided to take the next step by taking my dog w the small pack for some exercise on the trail in the woods behind the house. The dogs were running around having a great time which relieved my anxiety that my dog might not like to be off leash but she was running and getting some great exercise and learning to enjoy the pack mentality. No fighting or misbehaving, perfect! Lucinda works tirelessly to pamper the pooches morning and night. Morning feedings, evening feedings, medications and always careful observations of the pets. They all sleep like happy babies when the day ends in a real home environment. Prices are in line and reasonable I think for an overnight stay of $44 including feeding, walking, playtime and careful observation by someone who is highly qualified and very knowledgeable of pet behavior. All animals come in contact w other pets only when owner has documentation for boarding such as rabies vaccination, bordetello. This place is a well thought out and safe place to leave your precious pet while you are away. So relax, they got your back!

I really like this place!! The place is huge and is all volunteer run so you know the person…read moreleading your class has a true love for animals. The price is cheaper than what you would pay for training at the pet stores and it is eight weeks not six weeks. Class sizes aren't huge, there are about ten people in my class currently. The dog and I are in the tiny tots beginner class for dogs that are under 15 pounds. It is a great environment for her to learn since she doesn't have to worry about practicing next to a dog five times the size of her. I truly am learning a lot. I read a lot of books on dog training, but nothing beats having an experienced expert show you and practice with you. They are thinking about doing a Tiny Tots II in the Spring and we will definitely be signing up!

I love these guys. They are great. When my dog had a medical issue and couldn't fully participate,…read morethey understood and accommodated us. They're volunteers who truly care about the dogs and humans. One trainer even gave the whole class homemade treats at the end! It is sometimes hard to get into their classes... you have to be lightning fast when registration opens. And of course, as with any other scheduled event, it won't always fit with your schedule. But it's worth it to try to get in their classes. Fees are very good compared to other places... I feel you get MUCH more bang for your buck than at pet store trainings, and it's a much better setting. There aren't many places anymore that provide class settings, especially for advanced skills... so many trainers only do private lessons now, which are so expensive. I'm glad these guys are here! A great staple to our community.

We did the on and off leash training and Dewayne took extra time throughout the process to ensure we were comfortable with the training tools and approach. He also added additional sessions when we felt our dog needed more time to master certain skills. Our dog is a Great Pyrenees mix and Dewayne taught us a lot about the breed, and took this intro consideration when training so the experience was tailored to our dog's needs instead of basic, boilerplate training. Dewayne is honest and upfront and has such a delightful sense of humor - we loved working with him. Training takes time and work. Dewayne gave us weekly homework assignments and was very supportive and responsive to our questions outside of class. It's such a compliment when people comment on how well behaved our dog is, and we always credit it to the training with Dewayne. We highly recommend him!
