We were just passing along I-30 and decided to stop in Mt. Pleasant for a break from a long trip. While exploring the historic downtown, we discovered Laura's Cheesecake--and what a wonderful surprise it turned out to be. We walked into this charming café in the afternoon, just before closing. I asked for their most popular cheesecake, and I was lucky enough to meet Laura, the owner. She kindly guided us to the best choices and even suggested the most cost-effective way to sample a variety of flavors. And the cheesecake? Absolutely the best I've ever tasted--rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. When she learned we still had a two-hour drive home, she thoughtfully packed our cheesecake with ice packs and even included extra samples for us to enjoy later. Her kindness and hospitality truly made the experience special. The café itself is beautifully decorated--clean, cozy, and full of classic East Texas charm. On a road trip through Texas, we stopped in Mt. Pleasant for lunch. This place looked promising, and we always find these old Texas downtowns with the city hall squares so charming. There were a few well-rated spots in town, but we landed here. We ordered the stuffed avocado -- a full order with one stuffed with chicken and one with beef. My main gripe? Ditch the ranch and go with actual sour cream. Ranch is fine and all, but sour cream would have been the better move. I'm a sucker for a beef sandwich with a dipping sauce, so I couldn't resist. But, fair warning -- the meat was still kinda dry and chewy even with the dipping sauce. A little disappointing. Now, where this place really redeemed itself wasn't the namesake cheesecake -- but the cookies! We grabbed two to go, and wow -- the dark chocolate one with sea salt was the true highlight. We also got a slice of cheesecake to go (because, you know, it's in the name), and it was good -- but honestly, I'd skip the cheesecake and go straight for the cookies next time. read more

The food and the desserts were well worth the stop off the highway! I barely got a bite of the Double Cookie my hubby ordered. It was two snickerdoodle cookies with cinnamon-flavored cream in the middle. I had the Triple Chocolate Cheesecake slice - so rich and smooth! For lunch, my (picky) son finished almost his whole bowl of Mac & Cheese and side of ham. I tasted it. It was good & cheesey - not salty like what comes out of a box. I had a cup of Chicken Tortilla Soup and half of Italian Gobbler sandwich. Sorry, no pics. We ate them too quickly. They did not skimp on the turkey meat and the Swiss cheese was melted nicely to the focaccia (which was not hard). My dad had the daily special - Chicken Spaghetti on Fridays. It was so good. I've never had such a dish, but I would go back on a Friday for it! The owner took our order. She was so kind and very happy to hear that we had stopped after seeing the restaurant name on the blue highway sign. We were looking for a place to get lunch. So so glad we stopped and decided to dine in. The place looks amazing for being historic and was so welcoming. You could go a get dessert to go or choose a table to dine in. Several tables of various sizes and shapes are available to accommodate everyone from couples to large families. Our table was bussed as we ate our meal which was nice. Stopped in during a recent trip to the area. Prices were reasonable and staff typical Texas friendly. Ordered the pot pie daily special, California chicken wrap with tortill chips and Jeffrey's verde power bowl for lunch followed by raspberry cheese cake and banana pudding for dessert with strawberry basil infused water to drink. Always limited when I think of where to eat in Mount Pleasant Tx. I drive by this place al the time and thought they only served cheesecake. Last week I saw a lunch sign out and thought I give it a try. They serve lunch from 11-2pm only. So today I came in with my husband, roommate and a friend. The guys all ordered TV Philly Cheese French dip with chips and I ordered the new chicken salad wraps. Today they also kicked off their fall menu. They had love music and passed out samples of their fall favorite cheesecakes. I tried the pumpkin cheesecake and it was good. I wouldn't say the best I ever had but it was certainly up there. My chicken salad wraps were perfect in size. Tasted fresh and light, not heavy with mayo. It was also served with sliced cucumbers and carrots. Along with a fruit salad. It was perfect! The music was great, my understanding it was the music teacher from Chapel Hill High School. He had a great voice. This is in the heart of downtown across from the courthouse. I would love to see them maybe add some local favorites to sell in the store. It's so big and half of the store is empty (not being used). Food is mediocre at best. Chicken salad was way too sweet and the other sandwiches were a bit dry. Not much flavor either. Neither sandwich came with much meat. It was mostly bread-which is disappointing for $8. The cheesecake was also mediocre. Not great considering it's called "Laura's Cheesecake". The cheesecake wasn't creamy or flavorful. They may be known for their baked goods and their cheesecake (it's in their name), but if you want some top notch breakfast in Mount Pleasant, Texas... you should try their avocado toast (Bonus: add an extra egg and ask for sour dough toast instead of whole grain!) My daughter and her mate took my husband and me to eat here while we were visiting. It's a nice really neat store in an old building in downtown. They are also a bakery. We ordered the hummus plate for all, a philly beef and cheese, a stuffed avocado with grilled chicken ( you could also get it with beef) a cup of potato soup and a cup of chicken tortilla soup. Everything was good, nothing outstanding. The potato soup was not as creamy as I like and the tortilla soup had a very strong tomato base which overpowered everything else in it. We had a peanut butter cookie and a snickerdoodle cookie. The peanut butter cookie was very good. The snickerdoodle had too much cinnamon for my taste. We also had a piece of strawberry cheesecake and I'm sorry to say I was really disappointed as they are suppose to be famous for it. All in all a nice eat, but not for me. read more

Laura's is all around pretty great. Come here early for lunch for delicious tortilla soup and chicken salad sandwich. The soup is very tangy and limey, and the chicken salad on a croissent is just to die for. They offer a large variety of wraps, salads, and sandwiches for a light lunch downtown. It get's verrrrrry crowded around lunchtime, and they quit serving at 3, I think, so it is important to get there early since there is limited seating. If you can't make it out for lunch, they have a cooler where they have "lunchboxes" with a choice selection of their most popular sandwiches that are pre-made and boxed together with a pickle and chips Time to talk desserts. They've got some mediocre cookies, out of the box lemon bars, miniature pecan pies, but the real deal here is the cheesecakes. They have the classic flavors like plain, turtle, and strawberry, some seasonal like pumpkin and blueberry, and some you'd probably never think of like German chocolate and apple streusel. The classics are delicious, but my favorite is probably the brownie swirl cheesecake, which, as the name suggests, has chunks of brownies in it. Yuuuum. They also have a daily rotation of flavored gourmet brewed coffees. I've never tasted them, but I know that they smell INCREDIBLE!
