We recently returned to Washington, DC from Europe for my mother's reverse shoulder replacement…read moresurgery with Dr. David Lutton--a procedure she had been holding out for, despite increasing pain and limited mobility. At nearly 91 years old, this wasn't just a medical appointment--it was a critical window of hope. And what unfolded in the days leading up to surgery was nothing short of extraordinary. Late Tuesday, just before our flight, we learned that the required CT scan had not been completed as prescribed. Without it, Dr. Lutton could not proceed. His schedule was booked solid, and we feared the worst. But we reached out to his office, explained the urgency, and hoped for a miracle. Enter Valerie, Dr. Lutton's surgical coordinator--and the unsung hero of this story. Valerie and the entire team at Washington Circle Orthopedics sprang into action. While we were boarding our flight Wednesday morning, we received word that they had secured a CT scan appointment in DC the day before surgery. Valerie instructed us to drop off the CD immediately after the scan so Dr. Lutton could personally review and complete the templating between his other surgeries. The coordination, compassion, and sheer determination of this team were awe-inspiring. The surgery went forward as scheduled, without a hitch. Dr. Lutton's skill and precision were matched only by the warmth and professionalism of his staff. Today, my mother is recovering beautifully, free from the constant pain that had plagued her for years. She calls it the best birthday gift she could have hoped for. This wasn't our first experience with Dr. Lutton's brilliance. Three and a half years ago, he performed a reverse shoulder replacement on my right shoulder and my mother's left shoulder. Both procedures were flawless, and the outcomes life-changing. That history made it all the more important for us to return to him--and he and his team delivered once again. Dr. Lutton is a marvel--a master of his craft and a deeply compassionate physician. But his staff, especially Valerie, deserve equal praise. They went above and beyond the call of duty, and we are forever grateful. If you're looking for world-class care delivered with heart, look no further than Dr. Lutton and his team at Washington Circle Orthopedics. They are, quite simply, top drawer.

Dear GT Medstar Medical Team,…read more My name is Sheila Westerfield and I was an in-patient at your hospital from October 25 through October 30, 2024. I must apologize because this email thank you is a very long time coming, however, I have been working on my recovery and PT. I wanted to thank each of you for your amazing care both medically, physically and emotionally as your team and you guided me through my recovery period at the hospital during my stay. From the excellent medical care and advice that was given to me both pre op hip replacement surgery to post op surgery, Dr. Park, I must say you are the BEST! I am so grateful that you are and were my surgeon involved in my care from the day I came to you for consultation, during and after my surgery and your excellent follow up and care! Your attentiveness to my requests and care will always be appreciated with deep gratitude. You also possess an amazing beside manner. I grew up in a family of physicians from my grandfather, uncle and brother -- so I am quite familiar with the quality of care that can be given to a patient -- not just medically, but the overall support emotionally that makes an outstanding doctor like yourself stand out from the rest. Thank you! Secondly and not really secondly, the amazing care that I received from the nursing staff, your staff, Dr. Park -- your resident, the physical therapists, nurse techs, the client care experience staff and down to the young man who cleaned my room twice a day and the food services staff, I remain extremely grateful. The quality of care and attention and kindness and compassion of all of the staff mentioned above (the names are listed below) -- I hope that I didn't leave anyone out, please know how fabulous you all are and I am grateful that you chose the medical profession because you are exactly where you belong. You all have huge hearts and exude patience and devotion to the career you chose. It is my hope that the director's of GT Medstar and your immediate supervisors and managers will have the opportunity to see this email. Because I don't have access to their emails, I am hopeful that this email will be forwarded to each -- from the president/ceo at GT, the head of the surgical orthopedics department, the head of nursing and patient experience department, director of physical therapy, food services and the janitorial department. I am healing quickly -- walking sometimes without a cane and having no difficulty navigating my 14 steps (LOL). All of this is due to the excellent care that each of you provided me and your encouragement each step of the way. The qualities that each of you possess are those that each person who has to undergo surgery or just a stay at the hospital prays for!!!! I know for certain as I am a praying "gal" who when my eyes open I am prayerful and thankful and before they close my prayers and gratefulness are repeated to my God -- and, what I can say is that HE answered my prayers, for TRUE!!!!! I wish each of you all of the BLESSINGS that God has in store for each of you and your families. I know that each day that you come to work, you are BLESSING yet many more patients! Thank you again. Dr. Faucett was the second doctor I saw following a bike accident which left me with a deep…read morecontusion on my leg. Perhaps you've heard the advice "always get a second opinion" and I'm glad I followed it (real story: I have different insurance now so couldn't see my old Dr. and remain covered). Dr. Faucett did a great job of asking questions to find out what the issue was, took a small physical on the injured area and made a recommendation of a cortisone shot to try to lessen pain. My previous Dr. had said my two options were to 1. cut the wound out 2. wait and see if my body would heal itself. So already I have a third, and much more promising option presented with Dr. Faucett. The shot did not make cause any improvement so on my second visit I ask if we can try another shot. Instead Dr. Faucett recommends an MRI to get a better look at my injury and see how it's healed since my previous MRI seven months earlier, telling me he had several treatment thoughts based on what the MRI would show. After my MRI I didn't schedule my follow-up with Dr. Faucett, adding it to the to-do list instead. I was pleasantly surprised when he called me two days later to tell me he'd already reviewed the results and to discuss treatment options. His responsiveness, both via phone and email are worlds away from previous Drs I've gone to and greatly appreciated. The only thing standing between the 5th star is the reception desk at The Orthopaedic Center. Very unfriendly and brusque on each of my visits, plus they scheduled one of my appointment during a time while Dr. Faucett was out of the office - quite frustrating.

Failed knee replacement, dismissive follow-up. I needed a full revision by another surgeon…read more I chose Dr. Faucett for my total knee replacement after consulting four surgeons, because of his reputation. That was a mistake I've spent 18 months recovering from. Apart from the initial consult, all my pre-op care was handled by his PA. On surgery day, Dr. Faucett walked past me in pre-op without acknowledging me, and he never spoke to me after surgery either. I woke partway through the procedure being pulled so hard that I was sliding on the table before I was sedated more deeply. I was discharged a few hours later. From day two, something was clearly wrong. My pain was 10/10 for weeks, and at 8 days the PA moved me to a medication I had already told them didn't work for me. I couldn't bend my knee enough to use a pedal exerciser, I couldn't straighten it, and I was bruised dark purple from foot to hip for over a month. I followed every PT and medication instruction. My physical therapist, who has years of TKR experience, contacted the office herself because she felt a "hard stop" in the joint. I sent weekly updates. The response was that everything was fine, and I was made to feel I was overreacting. At 6 weeks I was told I could see the doctor "if I insisted." When I did see Dr. Faucett, at 45 degrees of flexion and -20 extension, he hadn't read my messages. He blamed my recovery on me, including not renting a $1,700 ROMtech bike, even though his PA had told me before surgery that my own equipment was adequate. He told me, with his back to me, that I'd need a manipulation under anesthesia. I saw another surgeon that same day. The surgery caused me to go from triathlete to someone who couldn't walk through a grocery store without pain, despite two manipulations and a scar tissue procedure. My revision surgery found an oversized tibial component impinging on soft tissue and nerves, and both components loose. After a complete revision with properly sized components, my recovery has been dramatically better, with a fraction of the bruising and pain. One knee replacement turned into four surgeries. In my experience, Dr. Faucett was not engaged in my care before, during, or after surgery, and when problems appeared, his office dismissed them instead of investigating. I would not choose him again, and I'd urge anyone considering him to look carefully elsewhere.

I had an appointment with Dr. John Ferrell on September 12, 2024, at the ROSM Washington, DC office…read morebut left before seeing him because I was not seen in a timely manner and left after an inappropriate time to wait. This is the second time I have experienced this problem with ROSM including previously in July with another doctor in the practice. Both times I was taken to an examining room in a timely manner and was left to wait in the room. After over 30 minutes, I left the room and spoke to one of the staff to ask if there was a problem. Both times I was told that the doctor was with another patient and would be in to see me in a while. My first complaint, therefore, is that it is not the patient's responsibility to determine why there is a delay. The doctor should instruct his/her staff to let the patient know that there is a delay and what are the patient's alternatives. Both times the staff person apologized for which I appreciate their apologies. An apology by a staff person, however, does not indicate that there will be any change in how waiting patients are informed of delays. On September 12, 2024, the staff person told me that the doctor was in a room with no clock, which is not an excuse but demonstrates poor planning by the doctor. Therefore, my second complaint is that the ROSM Washington, DC office is poorly managed and fails to properly plan appointment times for patients. I will not be returning to this practice for any reason.

I was very clear about being pregnant the whole time, and the doctor assured me that the anti-inflammatory med he prescribed would be safe for me. Thankfully, I took note of the huge RED cap on the bottle that said "not for pregnant women" and waited to talk to my ob/midwife providers. They were SHOCKED he prescribed it, because it has a medicine that is used to induce labor or cause a miscarriage and would have likely be catastrophic for me. I alerted the office to this and the doctor called me and said he wouldn't prescribe it anymore, but that he had been to pregnant women for years. He is lucky they haven't been sued and I am worried about any women who have faced trauma because of this choice. I will not be returning for my followup.

Don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks and his residents!…read more I went into the GW Hospital ER with a broken tibia and fibula. On the first visit, I apparently didn't meet with any orthopedics and recieved the worst fiberglass splint. The guy who put it on went all the way up above my knee, and he used 6 ace bandages and really stretched them really tight. I was discharged and just hours later my entire leg was in excrutiating pain. I returned to the ER, 2nd visit, 2nd copay, 2nd time they get to bill my insurance and I have to pay a $150 copay. Enter the orthopedic residents. They removed the old splint and admitted it was the wrong type and too tight. They left my leg unsplinted for a while, and the pain went away on its own, but it didn't happen quickly. They put on a new plaster splint that fit great, and they said if I stayed overnight as an inpatient, Dr. Faulks could operate the next day. I stayed the night, my surgery wasn't their highest priority over some of their other cases and it got pushed until around 5pm. I waited in relative comfort in my room, I fasted for 17 hours by the time I went into the OR. This was my first time meeting Dr. Faulks, it seems he has his residents meet with patients before/after surgery. He had never seen my leg, and he didn't bother to examine it before ordering general anesthesia. Next thing I knew, I was waking up, and for some reason already had a sense something was wrong. There was swelling and fracture blisters that made it not possible to operate. Had he examined the leg ahead of time, it would have been apparent. I had a new cast on and I was told the blisters were removed and bandaged. They wheeled me back to my room, and the residents met me there. At this point, I already knew something was wrong. My smallest toe was caught in the cast and I was being crushed, in addition, the cast was applying some amount of pressure to keep my foot at 90°, but rather than applying it across my foot, all the pressure was on the joint below my smallest toe. It seemed like perhaps they started the cast there and pulled everything against it. First it was tingling, then numb, and then painful. When I told the residents they gave me the same dismissive response that should be the motto of the orthopedics team there "it's a broken ankle so it's going to hurt". This is toxic because it completely ignores the fact that the pain isn't in my ankle, it's my toe, and it shifts the blame from them to me. I don't let doctors push me around though and explained that the pain wasn't in my ankle. One of the residents said he needed to go into the OR but would return with a saw to loosen the cast. He was gone for hours and the pain became maddening. The nurse injected painkillers and gave me oxycodone, but it didn't really provide any relieve to this ongoing trauma. I finally took matters into my own hands and used a knife to free my toe from the cast. The nurse seemed kind of nervous about it at first, but then after she saw how it was wrapped in the incompetence of Dr. Faulks and his team, she began assisting and between the two of us we freed it. Nearly 5 hours later the resident returned with a saw. He was not happy about the modifications to the cast. He cut both sides of it open to relieve pressure in general, but with no benefit to the area that was in pain. He refused to give me a new cast despite how poorly it fit. This region is surrounded by talented award winning orthopedic surgeons from top universities. Dr. Faulks is not one of them. He graduated from the University of Nowhere and the certificate he got from it was probably the peak of his career. He's not on any of the Top Orthopedics in DC lists for good reason, he's not one of them. Unless you're interested in smug surgeons who are too busy to care about your surgery only to needlessly deliver recreational anesthesia, look elsewhere. You can't swing a dead cat in this city without hitting a top notch orthopedic. The only reason anyone would go to this guy is if they didn't do any research and took the easy option like I did, and let me tell you, it's not worth it. I'm still imprisoned in this terrible cast that probably some resident who just got out of medical school did her best on, and I've now got to find a new surgeon to clean up his mess. The next time you're looking for an orthopedic surgeon, don't get faulked by Dr. Faulks.
