If you are looking for a PT that will not only do an awesome job but will teach you functional exercises to avoid future injuries, go check out Lauren. I saw her pre and post knee surgery (refused to believe I needed surgery) and working with her allowed for a very smooth recovery, albeit with lots of hard work. She was always careful when I was doing the exercises that I might not have been the best at (there were quite a few at the beginning) and fixed my form. I can gladly say that YEARS later, I still remember all the exercises she taught and when I might be getting a bit lazy, imagine her telling me to correct this or that. Working with Lauren isn't just about a quick fix to get you to stop whining about pain but really about dealing with core exercises to ensure your continued well being! I have been to SET Sports several times over the last few years to deal with a chronic rotator cuff injury and impingement. Chris and now Ashley are the best of the best in PT. I first went to Chris when another large, well known rehab practice missed a tear in my achille's tendon. In about 10 seconds, he identified the issue and suggested I see my doctor right away. I'm glad he did b/c I needed immediate surgery. Chris is an excellent clinician. In addition to my AT tear, I have a number of muscular-skeletal issues; he has treated me with any eye for all of it. I like that I am his only patient for my full hour. He does the soft tissue work for 30-40+ minutes (as needed) and then takes me through my exercises. He asks questions, he responds to my feedback, he pushes me...he cares that I am healing and progressing. He is very unique in the industry. For all that, he is an even better person. Our conversations while I'm on the table range from fun and laughing to serious and interesting. I actually look forward to my treatment sessions. Ashley just joined the practice, but is already making great progress in addressing a chronic problem with my shoulder (turns out, walking on on foot and crutches for 2 months can cause all kinds of other issues...at least for me!) Chris is awesome. One day he was visiting my personal training studio and one of my coaches had just tweaked their backs, and Chris stopped right there and took care of my coach in about 20min. It's been two months and my coach has been good ever since. What they do is very different than what you'll get at other places. SET is fantastic. Unlike most other PT setups, SET sees all clients on a 1 on 1 basis. I worked with Belinda for three months before leaving the country. I came in with back pain and rediscovered some old issues with my knees throughout the process. Belinda used a multidisciplinary approach of stretching, soft tissue massage, dry needling, and strength exercises to address my issues. Belinda Black has been my physical therapist at SET PT for a couple years and I appreciate the times she takes to address my concerns. I really like the 1 on 1 treatment, where I have individual attention and there are no other patients at the same time. I worked with Belinda for 7 weeks or so to rehabilitate my shoulder, which I injured while hitting serves on the tennis court. Belinda combined soft tissue work and dry needling to help relieve the pain I was experiencing and taught me exercises to help strengthen my shoulder to prevent further injury. I am now a few months removed from my last treatment with Belinda and am happy to say that I have been able to get back on the tennis court several times without shoulder pain. My experience with Set PT - and Belinda in particular, who is a real pleasure to work with and talk to - was excellent. I highly recommend them. read more

Chris at Set Physical Therapy is absolutely the best. Unfortunately I have had many injuries and have been to many physical therapy shops in DC (and multiple in the downtown area alone). Trust me that none of them come close to the level of service and skill you'll get from Chris. Set PT is the only place I have received absolutely individualized, and complete attention and focus. I had been working with my PT person for about 2 years (not her lack of experience but my lack of attention as to how I was using my body and some medical issues) and trusted no one but her. SET Sports Physical Therapy is pretty much as good as it gets for physical therapy. Meghan is great with athletes and works with you to accomplish your goals. I went there after a foot surgery and Meghan was patient, explained exercises carefully and the personal touch insured a faster recovery. I've been to lots of PTs (2 knee surgeries and numerous injuries under my belt) and while some of them seemed amazing at the time, Lauren blows them away. She not only truly cares about fixing the issue but also finding the root cause and any other movement issues contributing to the injury. She tailors the treatment every visit depending on where your body is that day instead of just going down a list of exercises for the injury and makes sure you are seeing improvement. She also pushes you in the exercises to duplicate any daily movements you may see to make sure you not only are strong enough to perform them but confident in your ability to do them! I can't say enough about my experiences at SET Physical Therapy, and, specifically with Chris Estafanous. I've had to see Chris on various occasions as a result of yoga injuries and bursitis in my shoulder. He has such an incredible bedside manner, and, is very kind and patient. Chris makes such a conscientious effort to get to the crux of an ailment or injury. After carefully listening, he is then able to quickly determine the issue and thoughtfully explain the injury and how to take next steps on the road to recovery. I always feel at ease and encouraged each time I visit, and, I typically recover rapidly as a result of following Chris' detailed treatment regimens. Lauren O'Shea, at SET Physical Therapy, is a wonderful Physical Therapist! Anyone who has foot, knee or wrist pain should contact her immediately. In 2017, I began experiencing pain in my achilles of my left foot. I wanted to get in shape so I began taking an one hour tennis class. I did not realize that increasing my tennis from one hour a week to three hours a week was causing the pain. Thus, I continued to play until the pain was almost unbearable and I was limping noticeably. I still hadn't made the connection that the increase in my tennis time was causing the pain. I worked with Lauren for over six months. During that time, Lauren helped me realize that I had gone from a sedentary lifestyle of no activity to three hours of intense tennis a week in less than two months. My body was not ready for such an increase so quickly. In addition to working on my muscles to reduce the pain, she taught me several exercises and stretches to strengthen my muscles so I could play tennis without the pain. However, after several months, my insurance refused to pay for any more treatments, so I stopped seeing Lauren for about six months even though I still had occasional pain from my achilles. When the pain became worse and I began limping noticeably again, I contacted Lauren. My insurance authorized about three months worth of treatments. This time, when the treatments ended, my achilles pain was completely gone. It has been over eight months since I stopped seeing Lauren for the achilles pain and it has not returned. I still stretch before and after playing tennis and use the rolling pin to remove any calf tightness. All things that Lauren taught me. In the first quarter of 2018, I developed an intense pain in my left knee after standing for over an hour for a work function. Although I had taken a steroid shot, the pain returned within a month. I called Lauren and she helped me again. In addition to giving me exercises and stretches, we discussed other stressors that could affect my knee, such as my shoes. Specifically, we discussed that I wore the same shoes for everything (work, shopping, tennis, other exercises), how often I changed my shoes, and the support in my shoes for different activities. After working together for several months with massage, exercises, stretches and dry needleling, once again my insurance refused to pay for more treatments before the pain was completely resolved. After several months with the pain becoming worse, I tried to contact Lauren. She had changed companies, so I had to search for her on the internet. I found her and began treatments again for my knee. Within six months, my knee pain was gone. With the information I obtained from Lauren regarding how my feet and knees work together, I purchased shoes with sufficient support for my different activities (work, tennis, other exercises) and I changed my work shoes every six months. It's been three months since I stopped seeing Lauren for my knee pain. It has not returned, and I continue to perform the stretches and exercises she gave me for my knee. I'm now able to walk six miles a day, five times a week, plus play tennis one day a week without pain from my achilles or knee. Because Lauren had been so successful removing the pain from my achilles and knee, I asked her if she could help with pain for my right wrist. Initially, I hurt my wrist playing volleyball when I was in my 20s and kept re-injuring it over the years. I am now in my 50s. It had gotten so bad that if someone hit/bumped my hand/wrist accidentally, the pain would shoot through my arm and cause me to brace myself until it ended between five to ten seconds later. When Lauren first began working on my wrist about two months ago, the pain was almost unbearable. Now, as she works on my wrist, I can hold a conversation with her because although there is pain, it is now manageable. Also, if someone hits/bumps into my hand, there is no more shooting pain through my arm. Moreover, at the end of each physical therapy treatment, the pain is gone. It returns within a day or two, but each time when the pain returns, it is significantly less than the time before. As with my achilles and knee, Lauren gave me exercises and stretches to strengthen and improve the flexibility of my wrist in between treatments. With the progress we've made, I am certain that within one or two months, the pain will be gone from my wrist. I highly recommend Lauren for your physical therapy. Ashley is a national treasure and should be protected at all cost. I've been struggling to recover from a rotator cuff tear from a few years ago. As alot of people with this injury know, you end up overcompensating with the other shoulder to protect the torn one. I constantly slept on it and overused it, causing alot of knots and tension all along the front of my "good" shoulder /lat/ and back. For a long time, when ever I've tried to lift, I've needed to take a hot bath, foam roll, and then hit the sauna before hand just to loosen up enough not feel like my shoulders we're about to tear again. I tried another PT place last year, and the dry needling they provided was lackluster. I had given up hope until I was introduced to Ashley. She asked me to describe the problems and basically could finish my sentence once I started to describe it. I've had my fair share of dry needling experiences and this is by far the best I've had. At the prior place the guy would count down from 3 and never seemed to trigger the muscle. Ashley started before I could even gather angst and kept my mind occupied with some good sports and gym talk. Sort of like the really good pediatrician who distracts the kid before the needle and the kid doesn't even have time to dread it lol. I really can't recommend her enough. Years of foam rolling and tennis balls against the wall and deep tissue massages couldn't release and alleviate the tension the way she did in an hour session with the dry needles. As a very active and athletic individual, I needed a PT who understood my injuries as they related to my ability to exercise and practice yoga. Chris is the best physical therapist I've been to, and I've been in physical therapy for various chronic injuries due to athletics for the past 4 years. He works with you one on one, and truly makes his patients into his friends. He'll ask about your life and is totally genuine and not trying to pass the time like you're at the barber shop. Beyond that, since starting with him and seeing him about once a month for the past year I've been able to start adding weight to the bar and push myself in the gym again and actually heal the chronic injuries I had. I can't recommend Chris Estafanous enough. He was the fifth physical therapist I saw over 30 months for a chronic knee problem, which resembled tendinitis and kept me out of all sports. Earlier tries included Capital Rehab, C.O.R.E., and Duke Sports Medicine. Within two months, Chris had used a technique (dry needling) that other therapists didn't know, caught crucial form errors in my strengthening exercises that others had missed, and put me on a basic running program. After four months, I was beyond ready to play any sport again. He knew exactly when to test and push both my injury and my own hesitations. He's extremely knowledgeable, gives clear explanations, is serious but relaxed, and carefully listens. If anyone can make use of (or correctly dismiss) details that you notice about your problem, it's him, which is great for an athlete trying to actively contribute to his or her own recovery. Finally, while other PTs cut corners with time to see more clients, we used every minute of our hourlong sessions. Chris is simply the best of the best. The physical therapists at SET Sports in DC- Meghan and Purvi-are phenomenal. I can't recommend them highly enough. I have worked with Meghan for several years now and friends have worked with Purvi, and she has worked on me when Meghan was unavailable, so I know she is excellent too. Meghan helped me regain mobility in my neck after a massage gone bad experience left me with a pinched nerve. She also saved my life when I was recovering from a severe break to my humerus bone in my right arm. After being immobile for 2 months, my arm literally would not move. I never thought I would regain full strength and mobility in my arm again but I did, thanks to Meghan's expertise and miracle touch. Currently she is helping me with my chronic lower back pain. She explains everything thoroughly and offers encouragement when you need it most. I always walk out of her office feeling better. I unequivocally recommend SET Sports.
