Granted, if you are just passing through it is expensive, or at least an added expense to buy the $2.00 card. The card is reusable, I've had mine for over 2 years. Every $20 credit to the card gives you an additional $2.00. It is a little strange that the prices vary, but if this is a system that has a return after expenses, then consider that it is in the city of Homestead. Is it expensive? No, I'll tell you why. Unless you added 3xs the soap needed the machines wash and rinse your clothes completely!!! They are not stingy with the water useage. Do you open a machine an it smells of dirty water? No! I have been to others that by the smell of the water, I can swear have a 25 ft well. I know the smell I live in Redland. They don't seem to be recycling water or if they do, they have a great system. I'm sure that the exra expense of the washers helps cover the loss of being open at 3AM. I have done laundry at 3 AM. There is an attendant there all night. City of Homestead Police does a great job of monitoring the area too. I am very happy that I came across this place.

A young woman finally appeared and demonstrated how to close the definitely-in-need-of-replacement locking mechanism. I gave 2 stars due to the convenient location and having over-sized front-load washers & dryers. However, the $6/load washer barely spun the water out of a medium size load. Definitely NOT worth $6 for only a 16-minute start-to-finish load which ended up in dire need of a hand wringing! The inside area was like a sauna....there was no a/c, no windows to open, no fans and no way to even prop open the door for a breath of fresh air. I saw a total of 5 laundry carts. Plenty of garbage receptacles but all near the entrance were mostly full. There was 3 males (appeared to be indigents) sitting out front. And, a short distance away towards the north end of shopping center was several other homeless(?) men with grocery shopping carts filled with their personal belongings. I definitely would not utilize this laundromat during nighttime hours and will not be returning due to the insufferable temperature inside the building.
