The drying machines are relatively new and cost 20p for about 4 minutes, so it can cost up to £2 to dry a load of washing, depending on how heavy it is and whether you've put it in the spinner first. Very handy to have locally when your washing machine is bust (and apparently it's supposed to be more environmentally friendly to share resources like these).

Eskimo Laundry! On Yelp! I started using Eskimo Laundry about 10 months ago shortly after I wrestled with the drying situation a few times, and I've never looked back. They pick up at my home on Mondays (laundry AND drycleaning), and drop all back off by Wednesday or Thursday of the same week. Easy facts: There is a 20 GBP minimum per pickup. They also do dry cleaning. They pick up at your home at a designated day/time window. The staff is very easy to work with, and very nice and professional. Every few months I get a bill and pay via CC on the phone with the owner. My only bit of constructive feedback is that the folding is a bit haphazard and I do end up redoing a fair amount of it. I've been spoiled by my favorite Korean lady in the world (Brooklyn) who somehow managed to fold 2 huge bags of laundry into the pile the size of a notebook. Magical. I like crisp clean lines and square corners...except fitted sheets, those are the worst. Forever. It may seem like a luxury to some, but to me -- I will happily save elsewhere and dish out 20+ GBP to have fresh, clean, DRY laundry arriving on my doorstep. I'm sorry to be negative, but there is little to recommend this place to anyone. The machines haven't been changed since they were installed probably thirty-odd years ago. There are about eight standard load washing machines and four large double load ones. Half of them are usually out of service, going through various stages of disrepair. Smaller machines will need 3x£1 coin to operate, while the bigger ones need to be fed with 4x£1 coin. You have to be in the know as to which machines to use, or your washing will come out covered with tiny dark spots. You can dry your clothes too in one of the clothes driers, which can be operated with 20 pence coins. Each coin will give you around four minutes of drying time. You have an option of doing your laundry yourself, or paying for service laundry, which comes at extra cost. They advertise dry cleaning too, but it is done at another place, as I've often seen it delivered in a white van, usually at the end of the day. No need to worry about the right change, as you can exchange your coins and notes for smaller change in the launderette itself. The staff range for disinterested to downright rude. Doing your laundry here is never a pleasure.

In fact, I was quite satisfied with the alteration and particularly liked how the owner counseled me on what method would yield the best results. On another occasion I came here to have my bespoke-tailored Indian wedding outfit dry cleaned. The store owner warned me that since it didn't contain a label of cleaning-instructions, he could not guarantee that dry-cleaning would be the correct procedure...but he said that the fabric seemed to call for this cleaning-method nevertheless. In the end, it all turned out fine. However, I was not happy that he charged me for this unusual outfit twice the price than for a normal suit. Oh well... Also, I like the fact that the tailor is working right there in the shopwindow! That makes the work so much more authentic and hands-on.
