Attended: 5/4/17…read more Food Standard Agency Rating: 5/5. A very basic setting inside, but it fits the bill. Talking of the bill, there was an automatic 10% added, and there were only four of us. This is now becoming a de facto American style, and I'm not happy with this general mood. However, I didn't pay the bill, so it was left up to them. Total, with the service charge, £121.00. I tried to have the Mussel Platter, but they are already prepared and I didn't want the cheese... So had off the specials' board: King prawns in garlic butter. We asked for some bread to soak up the juices, and they provided. Also asked if wanted the black pepper, and this came at the same time as the request.... Good. Again, I ate off the board, and had the Halibut. Cooked to perfection, and, as recall, a reasonable price for the huge chunk on the plate. Asked if we wanted the black pepper, but this we had to wait, for her to complete an amusing chat with the chef en route.... Had a pint of: Lindeboom 5.0% £4.20 Food great, staff able to laugh..... Would I go again/ Yes. Would I take off points for the minor niggles, not really.

I found this hard to believe, but seafood restaurants are actually few and far between in Newcastle…read more! The big mussel came well recommended so when visiting for a friends birthday and she strangely decided that seafood would be the ideal pre-lash dinner, we happily obliged ! It has an interesting decor, the tables and chairs aren't really up to much, and the place setting could only be described as school lunch esque (paper place mats, bent cutlery). In fact, if you didn't look up you could easily convince yourself you were in your local primary school lunch hall. However, if you are able to look above waist height, you realise that it actually has a fairly interesting decor albeit a little dark, with an open kitchen and mezzanine floor above. They offer a Cheaper lunch menu and also have a great range of seafood on the main menu interspersed with offers, all for a very reasonable price. We opted for starters, I had scallops which were cooked very well. They came with a sweet potato purée which complimented nicely. A friend had fresh homemade calamari which had a crispy coating and the squid was not chewy or overcooked. We also decided to have some oysters. I don't know why. Oysters are terrible! They really are an acquired taste and it depends on whether you cook them plain or with some kind of topping, or if you steam or even grill them. The ones at big mussel pretty much come as they are from the ocean, with a slice of lemon on the side. I was definitely not a fan, but they were a popular dish that evening as many people around us were enjoying them, so I can only assume they were cooked well! I had a seafood linguine for my main, which, although the seafood was varied and fresh, didn't actually have much flavour. The seafood and pasta were cooked well, but I was expecting a stronger tomato base which unfortunately was not delivered. It was very watery and flavourless which didn't appeal at all! One of our party absolutely hates seafood and they didn't have the most extensive menu to cater for her.. she ended up with a roast chicken dinner that made me reminisce of the school dining hall again... Overall it was a good evening and we had a good laugh but I probably wouldn't go back. If you are really into your shellfish, they have a great selection and have good deals on buckets of steamed mussels which might be worth the trip, but if you don't like seafood, don't go to a seafood restaurant. Simples !

All of the small details shined along with the clearly great sourcing mastermind behind this establishment. I started with the oysters. I was amazed with them their freshness and buttery taste and texture as well as a brilliant horseradish sauce that didn't overpower but rather added to the experience. As a main I had the rib-eye with a peppercorn topping. If there was any negative it only would be to the imagination of the sides which were chips /fries and onion rings with some salad leaves. But do not misunderstand me here the main star was clearly the ribeye. Not only cooked to perfection but the sourcing of the meat was incredible. This is no understatement as I eats steak multiple times a week, always ribeye and most of the time US prime. However this steak was incredible and the peppercorn sauce again did not overpower the steak but rather complimented it. I finished with the cheese plate and a glass of port. The cheese selection was spot on and I exceptionally enjoyed the blue. The chutney was probably the best accompaniment for the cheese selection. Crackers were ok and I could have used a toast but it didn't matter. Service was impeccable, even in a rushed setting it was perfect. All suggestions were spot on, never felt rushed and it always felt friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I would definitely come back and go out of my way to come back.

With plenty of spacious seating on the patio and tucked away in little corners of the garden we found a lovely little table for 3 in the sunshine. For winter months they have 2 main buildings and 2 out-houses which are very pretty and well decorated inside. Post-birthday night out I was a little worse for wear and ready for a full English and a good cup of tea unfortunately the breakfast cut off point is at 11.30 however I wasn't too disappointed as the rest of the menu left plenty of tantalizing options for me to choose from! The waitress came over to take our orders and helped me choose between 2 dishes that I was torn over. The drinks service was a little slow but the food was timey and the presentation on all the dishes was amazing! My Dad opted for a seafood platter, which came with smoked salmon, crayfish, cockles, mackerel and crab slaw all served with sourdough bread, hollandaise and aioli sauces - seafood heaven! My Mum went for the lamb and goats cheese burger that was divine! The lamb was cooked to perfection with it being pink in the middle and served with a yummy mint yogurt dip and sun-dried tomatoes. I was stuck between the club sandwich and BBQ pulled pork open sandwich. On recommendation I went for the pork, which was served, on sourdough toast with melted Monterey cheese - heaven! I was having food-envy looking at the lamb burger but was not in anyway disappointed with my pork. Finishing off our meal with the Parlour's specialty - ice creams all round! I have a new found love for the homemade lemon meringue cone... There is so many flavours including apple pie and the originals too - its an ice cream lovers heaven! Our leisurely lunch here was fab and they are also promoting the "Super Club" on the 18th of July that is a diner's paradise! With three courses plus their homemade ice cream at £25 a head it doesn't break the bank either. This place was definitely worth the 20-minute drive and I will be back to try their dinner menu!

It was a really yummy cake! The sitting rooms were so cute, we were in the garden shed , and there was the main room, and the ice cream parlour and outdoor sitting. A really well done place, with layout and set up. Sometimes tea shops along the high way have a whole room full of junk they are trying to sell to you and then cramped sitting. But not here I think I saw a few cute things for sale but mostly they were focused on their food and I was told famous ice cream! Well done for keeping the place about whats most important... the food! Friendly service and tasty treats. It was a bit slow because they were super packed and under staff. The waiter apologised for the wait and said someone had called in ill! I can only rate it on the cake and coffee because I didn't eat anything there but I imagine it would be good .

For a friday evening, although it was 5pm, we were the only people in the restaurant. The decor is nice, quite dark but very grown up. As the name suggests, it is a fish restaurant but it also does meat as well. Drinks are quite pricey, some wine by the glass but bottles are fairly expensive apart from house wine. As food is cooked to order, I expect during busy periods, there could be a bit of a wait. I had tempura squid as a starter and it was really nice. Food is presented on a plate really well. For a main course I had the fish thai green curry, while nice it could have been a bit more aromatic.I had the lemon posset as a dessert and this was really nice.Portions aren't huge, so a 3 course meal fills you up but doesn't give that stuffed feeling. I will come back as a la carted menu has some good dishes on it to try. Also does a sunday lunch.
