    The paella!
    Tobias N.

I took my girlfriend who is a big seafood fan. The atmosphere when we went in was lovely. The downstairs did seem a little crowded but we sat upstairs. We got calamari as a starter which was nice but there's only so much you can do with calamari. There was plenty of sauce which is nice. We then had our mains I opted for the fish food platter and my girlfriend had paella well it was absolutely delightful. The prawns on the paella where huge and all of the things on the seafood platter where delightful. There was an acoustic artist on when we sat down this added to the atmosphere and was lovely. Any louder and it might have been awkward but was very good background music. Overall fabulous place and will be visiting again!

Anywhere that has tangerine & black as major features of its colour scheme can't be all bad but they need to learn the difference between Belgian (the type of beer they stock a lot of) and Belgium (the country said beers come from). I was lacking an appetite on the night we ventured in here so didn't really do justice to the suasages, mash & large Yorkshire pudding I ordered but it was nice enough. As can be seen from the photo above the cod that arrived was a hefty piece of fish so portion size is not something we could have an issue with. Service was reasonably prompt and perfectly courteous.

Nothing beats coming home to the North East than a load of freshly caught fish from the North Sea. Actually, let me rephrase that...Latimers used to be a small family run fish business where you could only buy what was caught the night before but now it has expanded and you can buy a whole array of fish. Fishing just off the coast still takes place though - so don't be disheartened. You can ask which fish has been caught locally. Apart from the really friendly staff, who are extremely knowledgeable about all of their fish (including how to cook it, what would taste nice with it etc) the shop and cafe is laid out in a welcoming way. You can either buy your fish from the counter to take away or sit in and try one of their delicious platters....Look at my photo of the crab platter (which was 14 pound!!!). It was incredible. This place is an absolute must for all fish lovers.

It has a Cafe, but this is closed at the moment, what a shame! My Mother spent a small fortune and we all agreed that everything was lovely and fresh as well as tasty and impressive. We were robbed though, the prices were well over the top and the place was somewhat pretentious. A couple of mentions on TV and in the Press have clearly gone to ones head! worth a visit if you are feeling rich we felt(

We are visiting my cousin and her family in New Castle. Im…read moreoriginally from Latin America and my husband is Polish. We live in the USA and love Hibashi. We decided to bring everyone to this place that I found on Yelp. We sat down and they took our drink order. Normally my husband and I prefer natural drinks over soda. (Orange juice, tea, lemonade). I heard someone order lemonade so when it was my turn I ordered the same and then my husband who was next to me ordered one as well. When the drinks arrive we both get soda: a Sprite. Then they explained to me that in UK there is no such thing as lemonade (fresh water, lemon juice, sugar) but Sprite, the soda has completely replaced the natural drink. I explained to the lady the confusion. Told her we were visiting UK and this was our first experience ever in a UK restaurant. Explained what lemonade was in the US and asked if she could exchange both our drinks to coke. If We were going to have a fountain drink we prefer coke and did not like sprite. She came back again with our Sprites explaining how they had already come out of the fountain sprayer and they could not sell them to anyone else. We had to consume them. I asked my family if we could just leave and go somewhere else where customer service was existant and they were fine so I got up, paid our drink tab and we all left to a really good restaurant. I will write a good review about it. The manager/owner of this place is so xxxxxx that he lost 11 patrons just because he wouldn't exchange 2 sprites for 2 cokes. They were not even can or bottle. The guy was pouring them out from that fountain hose looking thing. I bet the cost is pennies. Not smart at all I understand the confusion and how I should have research how words differ here. However, customer satisfaction is global. Im not giving any restaurant a penny more of my money if they cant even change a sprite for a coke. Especially because there was a good reason why. It wasnt that we changed our mind. I explained we were foreigners and for us lemonade is lemons, water, sugar. This guy didnt care about his buisness (lost 11 patrons and possible later referrals plus a bad yelp review) Did not care about his city, New Castle (our fist experience in NC) Did not care about how tourists view his country as a whole. If he is the manager, he should get fired. If he owns the place they should close it down for bad service!!!

For a friday evening, although it was 5pm, we were the only people in the restaurant. The decor is nice, quite dark but very grown up. As the name suggests, it is a fish restaurant but it also does meat as well. Drinks are quite pricey, some wine by the glass but bottles are fairly expensive apart from house wine. As food is cooked to order, I expect during busy periods, there could be a bit of a wait. I had tempura squid as a starter and it was really nice. Food is presented on a plate really well. For a main course I had the fish thai green curry, while nice it could have been a bit more aromatic.I had the lemon posset as a dessert and this was really nice.Portions aren't huge, so a 3 course meal fills you up but doesn't give that stuffed feeling. I will come back as a la carted menu has some good dishes on it to try. Also does a sunday lunch.

Chocolate sponge was fairly average but the kids polished it off no problem. £3.95 for lemonade with fresh orange was expensive (my son wanted fanta) and I wasn't too chuffed to see how pricey the drinks were on the bill. Clearly no-one was trusted with petty cash to make a run to the local Tesco to save their blushes. This was a shame as it made me give them the benefit of the doubt and order the cheesecake which turned up rather over adorned with cream, ice cream, chocolate sauce (provoking the thought that a plum was atop the slice) and black cherries. Less would have been more. Prior to this drop off in standards though our meal was decent no issues with the starters (indeed the hummus was too much for one person) or the mains and pricing and service were both good. I wonder though how many people shell out £40+ for a bottle of wine when 2 courses are coming to only £10.95? May want to look at that pricing structure as well as the spelling on the ice cream board.
