Figured I'd try something outside my typical comfort zone on the first visit ... and now I'm hooked on trout sandwiches? Good crunch, good crisp, no gnarly fish-breath under my mask. Right on. I was stoked to learn their chips are made in-house; this is an easy thing to outsource, but I get the sense this place isn't taking half-measures... On my follow-up visit, day 3, went and Made My Own Melt; pastrami and swiss, standard-dress, added jalapeños; tried sides of scalloped potatoes and red cole slaw, w salt and vinegar chips; clean-plate-clubbed that rack. Right on. My third visit, I tried The Classic- it's some ineluctable balance between softness and crunch - grandma's chicken shredded under grandpa's bacon, heaped on the photogenic end of somebody's nice garden; homesome stuff. BBQ chips this time, and a side of potato salad... awesome. I've already decided to try everything on the menu ; this food slays me, in a "usually I only have 20 minutes for lunch and I'm not a wealthy person" kind of way - the price is right and I don't feel like I'm messing around with the portion game - can't wait to get the Covid jab and be able to hang out &or take-out here on the regular ; chill vibe, friendly staff, dank food - fingers crossed this becomes an LFK mainstay! read more

A very cute spot, but highly disappointed with a majority of our order. I ordered the "corn potato chowder", but it was missing the chowder part as it had no consistency as if it was made with dairy. It looked and tasted more like a simple stock that had cut up potatoes and corn. In regards to the potato salad, it had more cuts of celery than there was potato. The smoothness of it was nice in comparison to other potato salads, but the overwhelming amount of celery overtook the side. My significant other got the fried polenta cheese sandwich, and it was more like runny queso sauce that seeped the bread. The caramelized onions would've been great if it was present in the sandwich. The only somewhat positive dish I had was the build your own sandwich I did where the pastrami and Swiss sandwich was tasty, but not impressive. My group ordered the pimiento grilled cheese, tomato soup, a Reuben, side salad, and the Hot Beef Louise. Everything was excellent. The side salad had a $3 up-charge, but was well worth it. Everything was fresh and the bread tasted homemade. Will definitely eat here again. read more

I've been here several times because I like what food I do get that was made correctly. Today was a let down. Ordered half sandwich and removed items listed on menu I didn't want on sandwich. Surprise to me there was other stuff not listed that made me have to skip eating the sandwich. I hope they update their menu to reflect this changes. Left hungry. The price is fantastic. There is no better place for lunch in Lawrence! Everything I've had has been delicious, the service is always wonderful, and the atmosphere inside is very comfy. The employees are very safe with covid as well. I once ordered the wrong sandwich, completely my fault, and they even caught *my* mistake and made me a new one free of charge. I believe this is The Best sandwich in Lawrence Kansas. This place has AMAZING Ham and Swiss, and Pastrami and swiss sandwiches I have ever eaten. The meats are from there NOT Sysco or some processed meat and YOU can tell the difference!The Melts are made with fresh grilled, sourdough bread with fresh Tomato soup. This place is a hidden gem. Had The Classic, She had a custom roast beef. My classic on brown bread was ok, the bread was crunchy and fell apart. Maybe that's how it's supposed to be, I didn't like it. Although this place has a cool environment and the menu is big, don't be fooled. This is a falsely advertised Italian deli. I ordered the classic Italian that was missing multiple ingredients stated on the menu such as the olive tapenade. The sandwich was also very full of mayonnaise which is very unlike Italian traditions. Also the small size of the sandwich was unparalleled to the price of the meal. It doesn't stop there, as a side, I chose the corn chowder and there was a very obvious layer of oil sitting on the top that I had to spoon out onto the tray to even try... not a great first impression! Best gluten free bread for my sandwich I have had in many years; it was certainly the best gluten free sandwich I have ever had in Lawrence. The bread was chewy and buttery, and spectacular. Definitely coming back to this deli! They also had gluten free cookies which were good. read more

Visiting from the East Coast and can honestly say this was the best grilled cheese I have ever had. The soups were very delicious as well. I wish we lived closer so we could come back. After accidentally losing our ticket, the staff was nothing but accommodating and the food was well worth the wait. We would definitely recommend stopping here when in Kansas! read more

Sandwich roast beef was so fatty I couldn't even eat it. Potato salad was something exotic and not good. Overall I'd say avoid this place.

Stopped in here while it was snowing a couple weeks ago and I couldn't have been happier. My wife got the hot beef Louise and the sauce is too die for. I got the Reuben and it was the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Best hot sandwiches I could imagine having on a cold day. We will definitely be going back! read more
