I would first like to comment on a prior review that was written where criticism was given to the idea of asking people to fill out the application online first if interested in adopting. I will assume this may have been encountered when calling the number to the ranch.. yes, it does state that if you are interested in adopting to fill out an app first. This is not to give interested people the brush off.. but I would think to weed out people and select those who only will have the best interest of an animal in mind (many of the animals come from poor situations before they find their temporary home at the ranch) Also.. LCR is almost entirely kept in operation from volunteer work.. as many people lend a hand and things can get pretty busy.. having a preliminary screening process for applications can save some time for the volunteers too I'd assume... I have spent some time here and have found that everyone is very attentive to the animals and is there helping because they want to be there.. As the owner of a rescue animal ..I know what a great experience it is to adopt and give an animal a secure forever home... Nearly all of LCRs animals are listed on their website through Petfinder .. check them out! PS: If you are someone who is in need of help with an animal whether you need to surrender it or found a lost domestic/farm animal.. just leave a message when you call..I've found that anytime I did, I received a quick return call from someone very helpful..

My Eli from Last Chance Ranch!

I had a wonderful experience at Last Chance Ranch. After my application was accepted, I received a call and was told to look over the adoptable dogs and make a list of the ones that I liked. When I did, I called back and we went over my list. We then eliminated each one based on whether they were already adopted, or the dog needed a fenced yard, which I did not have, etc. We finally came to my final choice and we set a time to meet. Before we did, I was told that he had issues with being extremely shy. I needed a dog to be ok with a cat! When we meet he was hesitant to approach us but finally did with treats, tested well with a cat that they brought into the room and gave us a report from their vet concerning a tilt of his head when he is in stress! We then took him for a walk and observed him around other animals and people! When we returned we were asked if we wanted to take him and we were shocked because we had made up our mind upon seeing him. I did get him a Behavioral Trainer because I wanted him to have the best life he can have as quick as he could. But that was my decision! Last Chance Ranch told me he was 2 1/2 years old and my vet verified that!

The best dog ever! Ziggy (was Spark while at the ranch)

We got our dog Ziggy from the Last Chance Ranch and he is the best dog we've ever had. He was very healthy when we adopted him and was obviously well cared for during his stay at the ranch. I love that they are a no kill shelter. Also the volunteers who donate their time are absolute saints and clearly love the animals. Please support the Last Chance Ranch so the animals always have this place to be given one last chance at finding a great home!

We adopted a beautiful dog from LCR. They were responsive and helpful. They made the process simple.

They lead the public to believe they are a no kill except for extreme behavior or illness…read more This is a lie. They kill dogs if they don't move out of their near empty kennels fast enough. Maggie was a chocolate lab living on the streets of Richlandtown Pa 2 years, pretty much since birth. She was neglected and abandoned by her owner. ACO Nikki Thompson, although being aware of her and 2 others, left them live having to dig through neighbors trash for food. The people living near these dogs, grew tired from watching them suffer so they got help from a local trapping team and captured Maggie. A rescue and a foster home waited for Nikki Thompson to at least perform this end of her job, get all forms in order so Maggie could start living as a loved dog, never needing to scrounge trash cans for food again. Instead, the BCSPCA couldn't be bothered to do what they tell the public they are there for- providing a safe haven for stray & unwanted animals providing them shelter until a home is found. Instead after a 3 week stay, they killed her. No call to the folks waiting to take her home. Just ended her life. Like it never ever mattered. This place does nothing but LIE to the public and its donors. The money people donate pays salaries- it doesn't assist in helping save animals. They need new leadership from top to bottom, including the ACO Nikki Thompson , who can't seem to handle doing the job the donors are paying her to do,

I brought my dog for a meet and greet before adopting one of their dogs. The lady assisting us…read moreseemed to be determined to not make it work, she disparaged my dog's breed and said female female dog are the most difficult. She put a leash on my dog and just walked out of the room with her, leaving me running behind her to wonder where in the heck she was taking my dog. Then proceeded to do meet and greet with the middle of the parking lot on a hot summer day. She would not let me control my dog and then says it wont work because my dog is uncontrollably excited and jumping and trying to play with the other dog. Like repeatedly "no this wont work", saying my dog would "overwhelm the other dog and lead her to exhaustion", letting her try to play with the other dog, saying how awful this is...but letting this go on for several minutes. Left and immediately connected with a breeder and bought home a puppy whom my current dog quickly learned boundaries with. The kicker is, the staff the previous day would have allowed us to bring the dog home that day but I thought the responsible thing was to do a meet and greet. But they kept the deposit we left to hold the dog. Nice little scam I suppose.
