In 7/28 I adopted 2 guinea pigs as companions for my existing guinea pig. during my meet and greet one sneezed several times. I said to Cristina is this one sick? (I know better and should have listened to my gut). I was told he lives with a vet tech and was assured he was not sick. Fast forward 7/30 I have 3 sick guinea pigs now. Their solution was to return them or they take and treat the 2 I adopted. They can not be trusted to adopt out healthy animals so why should I believe they would treat them. I recently filled out an online application for adoption of a dog. I was immediatly declined. When I questioned it, they indicated that I did not take my pets for proper vaccinations or check ups and shots. They had called my vet office. That is fine, but I often take my animals to clinics which provide cheapter prices than a high priced vetrinary office. If they had given me the opportunity to provide their records, this would have not been an issue. Partially my fault as I did not see a spot on the application for shot records. This is what I got in an email: reached out to your vet and both cats were not taken in yearly for vaccinations and rabies is a state mandated vaccination for dogs and cats. So I am sorry, but we could not move forward with your application. I wish you well in your search elsewhere. This was my reply: Both cats were given the proper care. Shots and vaccinations were given by Awsom Animal Shelter. I could have provided those records given the chance instead of a flat out declination. You have denied one of your rescue animals a very loving and caring home. How sad that is. Their reply: If you want to provide the paperwork, you can and then we may be able to move forward. That is up to you. Not a very good reply, however after talking with them and the snotty emails, I have decided this place is not a good fit for me. I have adopted and rescued many pets over the years. My last one was a diabetic which I had to give insulin shots 3 times a day and pay for very expensive food for her, needles and her insulin. Did this for 7 years. Roughly $300 a month. My other cat I had for 15 years and was very well taken care of until he passed from old age. All of this was on my application which I thought would indicate I am a responsible fur parent. Apparently this shelter didn't think so. How sad read more

I went to a volunteer orientation and was very disappointed. They claim to be an animal welfare organization, but exploit their horses in the riding programs they hold. Does a horse really want to be ridden, have an uncomfortable bit in their mouth, and be slapped with a crop or a whip? Just let them live their lives! They proudly told a story about someone adopting one of their horses and making them into a show jumping horse, with the handler doing tricks like standing on the horse's back. Additionally, they showed us some baby goats in a shed that were in a pen that was so small, they could barely walk around. This rescue is clearly speciesist. For that reason, I decided to look for other animal sanctuaries to volunteer with, that don't exploit any of their animals and let them live in peace. read more

I would first like to comment on a prior review that was written where criticism was given to the idea of asking people to fill out the application online first if interested in adopting. I will assume this may have been encountered when calling the number to the ranch.. yes, it does state that if you are interested in adopting to fill out an app first. This is not to give interested people the brush off.. but I would think to weed out people and select those who only will have the best interest of an animal in mind (many of the animals come from poor situations before they find their temporary home at the ranch) Also.. LCR is almost entirely kept in operation from volunteer work.. as many people lend a hand and things can get pretty busy.. having a preliminary screening process for applications can save some time for the volunteers too I'd assume... I have spent some time here and have found that everyone is very attentive to the animals and is there helping because they want to be there.. As the owner of a rescue animal ..I know what a great experience it is to adopt and give an animal a secure forever home... Nearly all of LCRs animals are listed on their website through Petfinder .. check them out! PS: If you are someone who is in need of help with an animal whether you need to surrender it or found a lost domestic/farm animal.. just leave a message when you call..I've found that anytime I did, I received a quick return call from someone very helpful.. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Last Chance Ranch. After my application was accepted, I received a call and was told to look over the adoptable dogs and make a list of the ones that I liked. When I did, I called back and we went over my list. We then eliminated each one based on whether they were already adopted, or the dog needed a fenced yard, which I did not have, etc. We finally came to my final choice and we set a time to meet. Before we did, I was told that he had issues with being extremely shy. I needed a dog to be ok with a cat! When we meet he was hesitant to approach us but finally did with treats, tested well with a cat that they brought into the room and gave us a report from their vet concerning a tilt of his head when he is in stress! We then took him for a walk and observed him around other animals and people! When we returned we were asked if we wanted to take him and we were shocked because we had made up our mind upon seeing him. I did get him a Behavioral Trainer because I wanted him to have the best life he can have as quick as he could. But that was my decision! Just adopted a Nubian mix goat from LCR. we are so happy with him! We had great help from the staff today! They even helped when our Gps took us the wrong way ! Would highly recommending adopting a pet here! To the people who said filling out the application is strange . It takes literally 5-10 min tops. It's not hard and just helps weed out people who very obviously cannot care for an animal etc. And too the people who complained about vet bills for their animal . You're not getting a dog from a breeder they are Rescued! They may have problems and that may be why they are a "rescued" animal ! We rescued our pup from Last Chance Ranch in March. And she is the best thing in the world! We love her to death! I know some people complain about the application process. Firstly, so many rescue organizations have an application process. this is because they want to make sure their animals are going home with the right person. I have contacted other rescue agencies that have ridiculous application processes (like, more intense than a job-and I am a nurse and work with kids). LCR was a good process. Second, they don't want to deter people from adopting. They reviewed my application and I heard from them within 2 days. They really want to find the best homes for their animals. Everyone I spoke with prior to going to the ranch was very nice. They answered questions about the dogs as best as they could. (Considering the pup we were looking at had not been there long and most rescues do not come with extensive history). When we arrived at the ranch, all the workers and volunteers were so nice and knowledgeable. They took such good care of our precious girl before we found her. The kennel was clean. And they pay attention to all the animals-no matter whats going on with them. Wether its something serious like a broken limb or minor like an ear infection, they provide incredible care to all the animals they rescue until they find them their forever home. I always recommend LCR to people look to adopt a rescue. They are incredible. And I am so happy to have had the chance to adopt from them. read more

I have been volunteering at the ranch 2 days a week for almost a year so I have seen some of the daily workings of the ranch on both the "dog kennel" side and the "horse barn" side. Everyone associated with this rescue have one goal in mind: Loving Animal Care Ending In Adoption To A Good Home. There are no hidden agendas. The founder and the employees are COMPLETELY dedicated to this cause. Volunteers come and go but the majority seem to stay and really enjoy lending a hand. The ranch is always looking for more help which is understandable considering the amount of work that is required to run an organization like this. I am extremely proud to be a part of it and will continue to assist when needed. Giving love, medical care and attention to these animals is rewarding and a blessing to all involved. read more

We just adopted a German Shepherd pup from Last Chance Ranch and as we were traveling over 4 hours to get there we arrived over an hour before we were scheduled to arrive.They did their best to take care of us as quickly as they could. They gave us all the time we wanted to check out the new dog and told us all they could about her.She was clean well groomed and looked like very well taken care of .She had all her shots and was spayed.Everyone we had contact with was very friendly and answered all our questions.We had been looking for a dog for a long while and had applied at 5 other rescues LCR was the fastest to approve our application and notified us of such very quickly.It wasn't long after that that they contacted us about having a dog for us to adopt.If you can consider it a fault they tend to try and rehome their dogs quickly so they sometimes do not have a lengthy history on how their dogs react to kids ,cats or other dogs but they try to tell you what they know.They rehome a lot of dogs and that is what rescues are supposed to do.It's a big busy place but everything goes smoothly.The people there care about the animals read more

We had an overall positive experience with Last chance ranch BUT we had one problem. The shelter staff encouraged us to consider a dog that they were treating for heartworm because he fit our needs and requests in terms of size and temperament. The dog we adopted is a wonderful fit for our family: very calm and pleasant. The only issue I had in the process was upon taking the dog to the vet, it was estimated that the dog is 12 years old not 4 to 6 as had been advertised on the webpage and by LCR staff. The staff was unwilling to adjust his adoption fee to that of a senior dog which I find incredibly disappointing considering the huge age discrepancy in what we were told. I thought we were being very flexible in considering a dog who had recently been treated for heartworm considering there is no guarantee that he would be heartworm negative after the allotted six months we were told to wait to re-test. To find out he's also a senior and has arthritis and has a full cataract in one eye is something that should have been disclosed up front. I completely understand dog is adopted "as is" but as a business, I hoped LCR would negotiate in some way after learning this. I asked that his adoption fee be adjusted from 300 to 200 and the staff refused and stopped replying to my emails. We are very happy with the dog that we adopted but wish that this business would make an effort to make this situation more fair for us. read more

April 2017 - I went to visit a dog that was in the paper-they mentioned when I got there that he had an issue with another dog and had been isolated. I asked to see the kennel and was denied due to "insurance issues". He was fine with me and I took him home. I enrolled him in obedience classes-he bit the instructor. I continued to work with him and after episodes of him never being ok with other people or dogs, he bit me on the face. I loved that dog but felt the rescue Knew he had issues and didn't disclose. In fear of others-we had him put down. I am crying and devastated. I will never go to this place again. read more

Staff and volunteers are amazing and really work hard to find potential adopters' the perfect animal that fit their needs and wants. I adopted a dog here and was told everything they knew about her, and I knew there would be certain things they hadn't been aware of while she was in the kennel. However, she's only transformed into an amazing dog and I couldn't be happier with the way staff treated my family and I when going through the process. Rescued a dog from here had him for five hours and he bit and drew blood. His temperament was much different than presented. Returned him the very next day because it was not something that was going to be safe for him or for the people watching him while I would be at work. They refuse to refund my money. The managers do not even have the common courtesy to call me or e-mail me. While I understand their contract I am blown away that they adopt a dog out that bite and refuse to refund my money after only five hours. They did however state I could pick out another dog how can I feel comfortable doing that. And why would if the managers cannot even respond to me? They are less than one star to me. read more

Let me tell you I would not go here!!!!! I'm sure they are caring people but here's my experience was which was awful and it now makes me know why people go to breeders! I found a dog on acct in philly which is a kill shelter and it was tagged for a rescue group, not knowing I happened to find him again on petfinder, at this rescue , it had to been just put up because when I called they said he just came in the day before. I quickly filled out a application, I was told if I had a vet reference it would be 24 hrs 48 hrs most. I called the next day and was told it was not processed yet I told them I wanted to meet a particular dog and they said I had to be approved, called the next day and still not processed I told them I wanted to meet a particular dog and same response. It was only after I went on their website I saw a meet and great for the next day which was Sat. Both phone calls nobody there mentioned this, I went and met the dog, and checked on my application because I wanted to take him that day, they told me they don't process on sat, I had to wait and should call back Wednesday! A week! Well I called Monday and left a message the kennel manager Annemarie was nice enough to pull my application and she called my vet. She told me she would call me right back and nothing, the next day I called and was told I was finally approved and I made an appointment for the next day! The next day came and I called to tell them I was runnning a little late, and guess what, they never put me in the computer and had someone scheduled two hours before me. What kind of scam is that!? If I ad not called I would have drove 40 minutes to get there to be told the dog I was coming for is gone! I'm so pissed and really will not be going back to any shelters ever again, especially not this one. I see now why people go to breeders The fee was $350 I was told the dog had a bath, no way that dog had been bathed and his notes said he had an ear infection and should see a vet! He was already neutered so all they did was give him his shots and worm test if they even did that! For $350 they should have the follow up vet visit covered. I had ask around about this rescue and was told that they are in it for the money, now I believe it. It's a shame, when someone steps forward to adopt there is no way they should have to wait a week make numerous phone calls given a fake appointment and be treated as though they are a bother, they are not even friendly when you call. When my daughter lost her TB in June we immediately decided to adopt a horse for a companion for my horse. My daughter filled out the app in July but we never received feedback from the organization. We have both called numerous times and have been told they are backed up with apps. I feel if an app is rejected the organization could at least call and explain the reason. My daughter is a veterinarian and I have owned horses for over 40 years so we are not new comers to horse ownership. To think I have made donations to this organization but when I want to help give a good home to an animal they are not interested in parting with any. read more

Ugh I hate writing this, but I'd be very wary of the info this rescue gives you as being true. After filling out an application for a dog we were told had "Food Guarding" issues we knew that issue we could correct. Once we adopted him and after having him in our home for a week we realized his issues with everything else was more of a problem. He would spin in circles and bark and howl at our ceiling fans for hrs. I could do any sort of cleaning unless my husband was home (dusting, wiping the counters, sweeping, vacuuming etc) it was a trigger and he would try and attack me. If you corrected him to sternly he's lunge. Over the course of a month and $850 to a trainer he got worse and worse to the point of daily trying to attack me and my mother in law. Our family sat for 30days with the feeling of being under siege by this dog. He was an extreme goof and sweetheart one minute and Cujo the next. When he tried to lunge and attack me on dec 22nd my husband made the decision to return him to the shelter. I was devastated. My son and my husband were crushed. I feel Last Chance deceived us by only disclosing the food issue! This dog had zero idea how to live inside a home or with a family. Everything inside a household was a trigger for aggression. SEVERE AGGRESSION!! Last Chance refused to refund our adoption fee which we were fine with hoping they would use the money to help train him. Unfortunately, within 2 days of being returned his bio was back up on their website & Adopt a pet without one change to his "Issues". That was extremely disheartening. We were informed after returning him that he was previously adopted and returned for biting. What a crush. They allowed us to adopt a dog my husband and son came to love knowing he had an issue with woman and a bite history. Be cautious of adopting from this facility. read more

I submitted an adoption application on a senior dog named Bubba who had been at LCR for well over a month. LCR would not alter their policy of requiring a meet with the existing dogs. My dogs are not good meeting strange dogs in strange places, so I knew a meet would not go well. I have fostered 25+ dogs and take a very slow approach introducing new dogs into my home. The kennel manager Emily Monsen said the owner was the only person who could authorize waiving the dog meet requirement. After waiting over a week, Emily never got back to me. I emailed the owner Lori McCutcheon. Below is her response. Needless to say, I will not recommend an organization who's owner speaks to customers in this manner. Dear Penny, Are you really trying to bother me while I am on vacation? I don't take many and this one is important since it is with my kids. I am very perturbed at your insistence on breaking our rules. Why this dog? Why would you put a senior dog in harm's way with a pack of "behavior issue" pits. If you're were truly a dog expert as you proclaim, then you would understand our protocols and also understand that no matter what, putting a senior dog into a situation as yours is a recipe for potential disaster. Why would you want to upset the balance of your pack. If you truly knew about dogs, 2 pits in a pack are more likely than not, going to target a senior due to their instinctual behaviors of weeding out the weakest. So in light of this information from you, I am personally revoking your approved application. I think you should seriously reconsider yourself looking at the need to add another dog to your family. If you have pits with issues you may want to focus your energies on dealing with their behaviors and correct them before adding more to make for chaos. Good luck with your future endeavors with dogs. Please completely weigh all your pros and cons before moving forward to expand your family. read more

I have worked at a few animal shelters (kill and no kill) and LCR does an absolutely phenomenal job at what they do. For being a non-profit they provide excellent care and customer service to anyone that walks through the door! BEWARE OF LAST CHANCE RANCH!!! our business did some work for LORI MCCUTCHEON and when the job was completed to her satisfication she wrote a check and smile and told us great job. When we deposited the check we had found out that she stopped payment, the job was not done to her liking. this happened in jan. 2015 and i am still trying to get my money from her. now it is july 27, 2015 and still no money and she will not even talk to us to see about working this out. read more

First, let me say that I am very happy for those of you who have had great experiences with LCR. My boyfriend and I were not so fortunate. We adopted a 2-year-old German Shepherd from LCR a few weeks ago. He was very energetic, jumping up on us, mouthing, protective of his toys ~ issues we thought we could correct through obedience training. We decided to adopt him despite his lack of manners. A few days after we got him home, he was sitting beside me and I was petting him and talking to him ~ without warning, he lunged at me and bit my face! He then proceeded to attack my leg but was unable to get a grip through my boots. My boyfriend called LCR and they felt that it was something that was correctable(!) and weren't willing to take him back. We agonized for several days over what to do now that I was afraid not only for myself but for anyone else he might come in contact with ~ we ended up surrendering him to another shelter. Just looked at Petfinder and, lo and behold, he is back at LCR, up for adoption. The write-up for him is pretty much the same as when we adopted him. Although they are fully aware that he attacked me with no provocation, they failed to mention his aggressive tendencies in his new bio. Shame on them. read more
