    Fish in tank

Alright- right off the bat I knew this store was going to be absolutely disgusting from the outside. The overall appearance doesn't seem to matter much to them at all. I, regardless of the outward appearance, decided to bite the bullet and go in. Immediately I was hit with the stench of a disgusting, unkempt, and downright revolting pet store. Albeit they have a pretty wide variety of products, the care for the poor animals is the bare minimum at best. I first noticed the disgusting conditions the dozens of puppies were being forced to be in. Then I happen to glance at the very small selection of reptiles and amphibians. Now i've been to the other store in lansdale and was actually quite impressed with the care. The biggest thing that made my stomach drop was the hermit crabs. It's very well known that hermit crabs need SUPER high humidity (90%), because they have GILLS and not lungs. It's also common knowledge that they need lots of stuff to climb on, and at LEAST 5-6 inches of dirt to dig and bury themselves in. These poor crabs are probably dying by the day. This enclosure is like putting a hamster in an arboreal geckos enclosure. It's absolutely disgusting that a chain petstore with so many employees, that not a single person has mentioned it or even briefly discussed it? The care for these crustaceans have developed vastly in the last few years. Google is a pet keepers best friend. The fish, as well, were kept in less than abysmal conditions. It's quite frustrating as a person who has been profoundly active in the animal care community for decades. These are BASIC BASIC things, that need very little research to understand and learn. This is by far one of the worst pet stores i've been in. Disappointing beyond belief. I genuinely hope that this store improves like Lansdale did.

It seems like there are puppies in there to make money. I wish people would stop breeding dogs and cats when millions are in cages.

I'm deeply saddened to report this, as I am an animal lover. However, the advice I received from…read morethis store regarding the care of my dragon was potentially fatal. They told me to maintain a tank temperature of 110-115 degrees, whereas my vet recommended 95-105 degrees during the day with humidity levels between 35-60%, and 60-70 degrees at night with humidity levels between 30-45%. The store advised using forest floor as a substrate instead of sand. My vet warned that if my dragon ingests a wood chip from the forest floor, it could be more fatal than sand. Additionally, forest floor retains moisture, creating excessively high humidity levels at night, which is unsuitable for dragons. Their natural habitat is sandy, and forest floor substrates are more appropriate for snakes and turtles. The store also mentioned that I wouldn't see my dragon's poop and suggested stirring the substrate every few weeks and changing it every 3-6 months. This advice shocked my vet, who emphasized the importance of scooping the poop every time my dragon goes and monitoring it for signs of health. Using the wrong substrate like forest floor means you won't see the poop because it's not the correct flooring to use. I can clearly see and manage my dragon's poop appropriately. There were many other discrepancies between the store's advice and my vet's recommendations. If you decide to purchase a pet from this store, be aware that it comes without a warranty, and they may not know the age or sex of the pet, as was the case with mine. Always consult your vet for proper care instructions, despite the store's claim of having 40 years of experience, which my vet questioned. On a positive note, my dragon was inexpensive, the store was accurate about the night temperatures, and she is thriving now that I'm caring for her properly. In addition, they are a bit rude and try to make you look incompetent in front of others. I dislike speaking negatively about people or businesses, and I am sure there are positive aspects about this place too, but always consult your vet for the best care advice. I bought my dragon to save her and i feel like they might have tried to sabotage me or just have no idea how to care for dragons.

This place is begging to be shut down by animal control. The animals are all in small cages with…read moreterrible ventilation. It smells SO bad like uncleaned litter. There are baby bunnies in wire bottom cages. Their little paws were practically slipping through the wire and they could barely walk. Not that they could do much walking in the less than 2 feet of space they have. When I brought it up to the woman working there she tried to convince me that it was fine. I had to walk away to keep from losing it. There are dozens of exotic birds in tiny aquarium-like cages, the only ventilation was from tiny holes drilled into the plastic. It's clear that whoever owns this business has no empathy for these pets, I don't know how these employees sleep at night.
