Jimmy's Tire and Auto

Jimmy's Tire and Auto

I have to say that I have never had such good service at a place that installs tires. I had made an…read moreappointment with Jimmy's Auto & Tire last week to have the stock tires that came on my 2022 Toyota Tacoma SR 4x4 changed out before winter weather arrives here in New England. I arrived this morning and was greeted at the front desk by Jimmy. I was then introduced to Chad who is Jimmy's assistant in the garage and he showed me the tires that they would be installing. I was in and out of their garage in about 30 / 40 minutes tops and on my way home. The new tires that they installed made a big difference. I highly recommend Jimmy's Auto & Tire for all of your automotive and tire needs. RayB

I also have to question whether I was told the truth about the progress and completion of the repair. First, I brought my Audi to Jimmy's to have a front wheel bearing replaced. The job took longer than expected (3-4 days) but it seems to have been completed relatively well. There was, however, bearing grease all over the wheel though upon delivery. Next I brought the car in with a misfire. It was diagnosed as needing a new #1 injector and top end carbon cleaning. The repair took 21 days (!) during which I was without my car. Upon picking up my car, I looked at the engine and noticed a few screws missing on top of the engine. I know my car, and they were not missing when I brought the car in. I mentioned this to Jimmy, and he told me they were missing when he got the car (which is untrue). The car still had a check engine light illuminated when I picked it up, giving the code for a bad "intake flap motor." Jimmy gave me some spray to put in the intake and clean it out further. This did not eliminate the check engine condition. I brought the car to an Audi specialist shop, much further away, but a family friend that I trust. The second shop asked me "What happened to the intake flap motor? It seems like someone broke it." So I had that replaced. The second shop also told me that "a bunch of fasteners that would have been removed to do the carbon cleaning are all missing." Subsequently, I have found that all of the fastners that hold the tray under the engine are missing, and these are $8 each from Audi, very hard to find. I also found that a few of the wheel lug bolts were cross threaded. Nobody else other than Jimmy's would have had any reason to take that wheel off (bearing replacement). Properly installing a wheel seems to be the most basic of all car tasks, so that is an embarrassing and unacceptable quality of service issue. All in all, I have spent several days and over $700 fixing issues with my car that seem to be directly related to or caused by Jimmy's Auto. I have reached out to them to discuss this but not heard a response.

Choosing a new auto shop is a difficult task. I know very little about cars, and it seems like…read morealmost everything related to cars is very unfriendly to women, or maybe to people in general. So I looked on Yelp to find a place in the area that had good reviews. Pleasant Street Auto only had two reviews, but they also took the time to post their own description. And, I liked the range of photos (I'll admit that I was a bit charmed by the photo of someone spray-painting a dinosaur) and the notion that there would be a place to sit and do work, comfortably, not literally sitting outside on a curb as I've had to do on occasion in the past. I was not a great customer up front, I'll admit. I completely forgot our first appointment, and then I became lost on my way for the remedial appointment. Throughout, the staff was patient and professional with me. I can't say a word about the garage/work area because I never saw it, which felt a little odd, but I could certainly get used to it! I don't have the slightest idea what the machines and tools are for, anyway, and so I don't know that seeing and hearing mechanics work really enhances my experience. Instead, I left my car and keys and waited inside. The front desk manages repair work, body work, and also Hertz rentals. When I made my oil change appointment, I was a little worried that I might have a serious issue discovered, and I might therefore need to rent a car. If this had been necessary, I could have managed it all at one location. Convenient! The oil change didn't seem to take all that long. I should have timed it, but I didn't. I think the total wait - even though I was late for my appointment, was well under an hour. During that time, I tried to take advantage of the homey waiting area with a t.v. (though the cable was stutteringly-intermittent), WIFI that didn't seem to work at all, and computers with internet service that required someone to come in and fix it for it to work at all. The computers were kind of old, dodgy, and dirty, but I was able to do some work, which was great. For families, there are toys and books (for kids and adults) and an area for children to hang out and play. I can only imagine that, since the space is open and adjacent to the desk area, it's not much fun for staff when the space gets "active," but it's very nice an accommodating. Overall, this is a huge leap over sitting on a solitary chair in a drafty space next to a noisy garage, or as said, literally sitting on a curb because there's no indoor seating at all. The best bit was that Lee, I believe a member of the family who runs this business, came out to speak with me personally while they were finishing up with the car. He spoke with me in language that I could understand, but not with condescension. There were a number of potential issues with the car, and he prioritized them for me, but he didn't make me feel pressured in any way. I feel like Yelp helped me to find a great fit for a new auto shop, and it's a great relief. I'd highly recommend this establishment to anyone who wants to feel confident about a family-run business that is professional, caring, and extremely well-rounded in terms of services available at a single location. With comfort, too! Great, great experience overall.

R & N has always been our go-to garage and tire shop. They sold the repair business unfortunately…read morebut so far we've had good service for basic oil changes. I'm hesitant just because I don't know the new guy but he seems good. Tire service is prompt and friendly but recently I needed a slow leak repaired and they had no appointments available, walk-in was going to be two hours. My husband and I both work full-time so that's not an option. Went to Route 10 Tire instead - and they fixed it right then no charge! Next tires we bought from them. Sorry but if you don't have the staff, I have to go elsewhere. Service department seems reasonably priced and reliable. We'll still go here for service.

Very very disappointed with the leave of service and this landmark tire repair shop. I have been…read moredoing business with them for over 15 years and always had good luck. Today this luck ran out. I purchase a volvo and had shaking in the front end. I brought the car in and had all for tires balanced. The issue still remained so I returned today and was told there was no time to check the balance in the front end? I told the owner Derk that the was not safe to drive this way and his best reply was come back next week?? Are you fuckin kidding? I stood and argued for awhile and then said well refund me for the two front tires and I will go some place else today. He refused and said come back next week. Over the years I have spent well over $5,000 on tires and service from this company and I will never ever set foot in there door ever again. Stupid business decision dumb ass. Please, please support the awesome people at RT. 10 tire in Granby, CT. They re-balance the front tires and the car runs great now.
