Today was my two-week follow up to getting Custom Waveform Lasik from Dr. Wills at Lasik Plus. I am happily at 20/15 vision and have had zero complications or complaints!
I found LasikPlus through doing research into all of the options for LASIK in the area. I read all kinds of reviews, not only on Yelp, and I liked the reviews of LasikPlus the best. In particular, I was drawn to the reviews that said that the office staff is very friendly and that Dr. Wills himself is a very attentive doctor. There's one review on here from someone who had complications and still gave five stars for the excellent service!
I scheduled a consultation online, which I appreciate- calling a doctor's office can be a hassle. The consultation was about an hour and a half with a very extensive examination (they WILL dilate your pupils during this exam fyi). I had a chance to ask any and all questions about the procedure and everyone that I met with was happy to answer every question I had. Between the question and answer sessions with everyone and the informative video that I watched while waiting for my eyes to be dilated, I definitely knew what I was getting into.
I had a consult on a Saturday and ended up being able to schedule my procedure for the following Friday. Note that if you are a current contact lens wearer you have to not wear contacts for at least two weeks (maybe more?) before your procedure so you might not have such a quick turnaround!
One awesome thing: Dr. Wills personally called me the day before my surgery to see if I had any questions because he didn't meet me when I came in for my consult. How awesome is that?
On Saturday I was at the office for about an hour and a half, although the procedure itself took ten minutes tops. There was paperwork to sign, post-op instructions to go over, and a final short eye exam. Plus a lot of waiting around, because I was there on a Friday and there were a lot of other people there! One neat thing I like about the waiting room setup is you can see in the operating theatre from the waiting room, so you can see other people getting their procedure done- I found this helped me a LOT because I could see exactly every single thing that was happening and I wasn't wondering about it beforehand. If that's the kind of thing that freaks you out, they do have chairs that face away from the window into the operating theatre.
Dr. Wills has a great no-nonsense bedside manner. Ultra cool, ultra professional. What I loved was that he walked me into the procedure room and from the moment I stepped inside he was in total control- he and his assistant made it absolutely clear that it was totally cool and chill and that I was in safe hands. Every movement that I made in that room was explained to me, even down to "OK Mrs Dawn step over here, now put your right foot there and sit down. Pivot and then lean back, and my assistant will guide your head down..." Etc etc, throughout the whole procedure.
I came back the next day for my follow up with an optometrist at the practice which took all of five minutes, and today I had my two-week follow-up with Dr. Wills. I'll have one more visit in two months, then I'm cleared! LasikPlus does have lifetime touch-ups which are included in the price of the initial procedure which is really cool, and good to have in my back pocket if I need it.
I would type up my experience with LASIK itself and exactly how my healing is going but this review is long enough- if you want to ask me about it tho, send me a message and I'm happy to talk! The short version is that the anticipation of the procedure is about a thousand times worse than the actual procedure, the only pain I felt during the past two weeks was right after the procedure once the numbing drops wore off, but by that time I was in bed doped up on sleeping pills and the pain was totally gone once I had a nap.
I do think that ultimately it's super important to think carefully about LASIK, as it *is* a surgery. The biggest consideration is if you can honestly say you'll be diligent about the post-op follow up stuff- medicated eyedrops 4x daily for a month, lubricating eyedrops in between medicated eyedrops for a month at least, no water/soap in your eyes for a week, no lotions or makeup around your eyes for a week, no swimming for at least two weeks and I think more like a month. I had 20/30 vision with glasses and a major astigmatism so everything was kinda blurry even with vision correction, and I had gotten to a point where I couldn't tolerate contacts anymore. So when LasikPlus said I was a picture perfect canidate for LASIK and had extremely healthy eyes it was defnitely a no-brainer to go ahead and do it!
Highly, highly recommend LasikPlus! read more
