I subscribed with this magazine and put them in my business thinking it was good reading material. Boy, was I wrong. Most of the articles are based on extreme liberal opinions and ideologies and they try to push their toxic influence onto their readers. I had the magazines removed from my business and will continue to spread the word to other businesses that subscribe to this junk. I love how many local publications we have in Las Vegas- LV Weekly is one I'll snag whenever I see it, though I do have mixed feelings about their material. I'm not going to waste my time complaining about the ratio of advertisements to actual content, because print media is struggling and the ratio really isn't that bad here. I only wish the businesses that advertise would try mixing it up with a new ad every once in a while- the majority of them stay the same issue to issue, which leads readers to flip through them without even taking notice. Sections I pay most attention to are the local/community features: love when they do specials that are specific to our area, which they're good about. Water waste, real estate policies, education at CCSD, development of downtown, all things that are relevant to me as a resident. It helps that I don't read the local paper, but if I did I could see how they might not have much I hadn't heard or seen before. Mixed feelings on their food section and movie/music section: I like reading about new places or upcoming events that I otherwise might miss, but their ratings system and suggestions are a bit skewed. As Mike G pointed out, it's rare to find a movie rated anything other than two or three stars which completely negates the five-star scale. Food section lacks consistency: I notice a lot of errors, such as recommending a place that has been closed for over six months. Maybe they're short staffed on fact-checkers? I generally take their recommendations with a grain of salt, as half I try on my own are fair but others are dismal and have no place being featured in a magazine article (don't even get me started on their pizza and burger coverage). read more

Fresh and well written. Have you picked up an issue of "Motor Trend" lately? Well it's the opposite of that. Owned by a big corporation, but can still speak freely. Covers a lot of local relevant issues. I particulary like the live music updates near the back. Also the graphic design is snazzy. The editor's name is Scott Dickensheets. Really. Shit: 99% of the valley's residents today possess no clue that Daft Punk performed a full set live for the very last time on U.S. soil in Las Vegas or that we ever had a festival called Vegoose. In fact, I wanted the issue to mat and frame since I gave away the magazines that I snagged and there was definitely no better souvenir from the show. So, I email someone at LVW and ask to buy one ... a back issue ... and they are so cool that they offered to just give it to me. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked getting all excited about the prospect and looking for materials to do it myself, that I never followed through yet typing this review reminds me that my wall needs a Las Vegas Weekly framed behind museum archival glass. Every single time I have visited Las Vegas Weekly offices (verify the check-ins), every single representative of the publication has been helpful, even when it is just helping out an avid longtime reader who is lost on campus because they've recently relocated their offices for the third time. Pro Tip: They put on a lot of contests and I think people seldom enter them because I win a lot of them. Or, perhaps they enjoy me travelling to shitty Henderson that often. I am not even sure why I share this: it's going to be zero giveaway wins for me from now on.
