The company is probably best known for it publication of the Las Vegas Advisor, a monthly publication--available in paper form or online version. A companion book that comes with the subscription is called the Pocket Book of Values, a book filled with coupons for deals in Las Vegas. I get the POV each year, and while I don't use even 1/2 of the coupons, using only a couple more than pays for the book and gets you access to their online site. It's a good value.

I stop in here 2 or 3 times a year for other various gaming books that are value priced from time to time. The selection of books and their price tag varies throughout the year. I snagged a great poker book for a few bucks on clearance that normally retails for around $25. In my experience, the staff is aways friendly and helpful. There is never a wait and they get you in and out quickly.

In fact, I wanted the issue to mat and frame since I gave away the magazines that I snagged and there was definitely no better souvenir from the show. So, I email someone at LVW and ask to buy one ... a back issue ... and they are so cool that they offered to just give it to me. Unfortunately, I got sidetracked getting all excited about the prospect and looking for materials to do it myself, that I never followed through yet typing this review reminds me that my wall needs a Las Vegas Weekly framed behind museum archival glass. Every single time I have visited Las Vegas Weekly offices (verify the check-ins), every single representative of the publication has been helpful, even when it is just helping out an avid longtime reader who is lost on campus because they've recently relocated their offices for the third time. Pro Tip: They put on a lot of contests and I think people seldom enter them because I win a lot of them. Or, perhaps they enjoy me travelling to shitty Henderson that often. I am not even sure why I share this: it's going to be zero giveaway wins for me from now on. Most of the articles are based on extreme liberal opinions and ideologies and they try to push their toxic influence onto their readers. I had the magazines removed from my business and will continue to spread the word to other businesses that subscribe to this junk. I'm so glad I never took out an ad inside this local zine, it clearly does not know what Vegas locals want.

This magazine was great for Vegas show information. It also gets into local theater off the strip, the University, community groups. I'm always a fan of the arts, usually smaller productions. There's an overview and schedule of upcoming shows which is nice. This is about an 8 page newsletter that costs $2.50 an issue…read more I lost most of you already. But, like Las Vegas Advisor, that I just reviewed, this is dense with information. To be honest, the newsletter has about 6 pages of advertisements. On a sidetrack, that has always confused me. With all the free newspapers and alternative weeklies (the ones that come out on Thursdays) , of course they run because of advertising. So why, why, why, do magazines charge you $6/ month? For glossy pages? To pay their columnists? No.... The reason to get this newsletter, come to think of it, I've only seen it sold in 2 places in town. anyways the big feature is right there on the front page. It's called the toke board and it's most likely for local casino dealers. But it's also for smart gamblers to see where the action is. I use it to gauge places I consider gambling at. It's a grid that lists the average tips dealers make at a casino during a given week. I don't know if this is directly taken from tax information. I can't imagine all the casinos getting together to publish this. Maybe a union keeps track of their employers... The only thing I can think of that would radically change one of the numbers (if we believe the consistency of all the others on the grid) is if some millionaire drops tips into 5 digits on a streak. Actually, the ads are worth mention. They tell you about tournaments, big deal. They also tell you about trivia that mostly casino folk trade and share. They even have a section called the break room, since that's where most gossip takes place. I used to be a dealer, gossip is actually important among casino workers. It's not just about why someone's late, called insick, got promoted, etc. It can be industry news.
