Even on a busy…read moreSunday afternoon with no reservation, we were seated within minutes--already a pleasant surprise. We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a perfect view of the iconic Teatro Juárez. What a treat! The moment I tasted their tortilla soup, I was transported back in time. I first tried it twenty-five years ago, and with the very first spoonful, memories flooded back. It is still just as rich, comforting, and absolutely worth trying. Our party of three ordered the Menú del Día for only 300 pesos, which included an entrée, a first and second course, and a choice of coffee or dessert. Oh my goodness--the quality was outstanding. From the careful presentation of every dish, to the exceptional flavor, spotless restrooms, gracious staff, and unbeatable location, Casa Valadez easily earns five stars from me. If you're visiting Guanajuato, this restaurant is a must. Bonus: Their wine selection is surprisingly extensive!

It was our first night and we were tired so didn't want to wait for something else. We expressed to three waiters about the food and all we received were apologies. There is a very small playground for the little ones and they also have 4 different menu choices for them as well. I usually go for the Papatia and it comes complete with your choice of meat. I go with the arrachera. The potato comes covered with the meat, cheese, pico de Gallo, onion, bacon, cheddar cheese, and jalapeño. Plus some other ingredients I can't translate (lol). The potato tasted great and is a large portion for the price. You can not go wrong eating here. This is one chain that makes me miss living in Mexico.

One lady charges you, another fills the Gorditas for you, one makes the Gorditas and another helps when people order quesadillas. They have many fillings like chirrarron, chorizo, eggs, beans with cheese, cactus, rajas with corn, potatoes and so on. But get there in the morning, they start to run out of fillings as the day goes on. Also, there's always a line so be prepared to wait, but it moves fast. The prices are very affordable. I had 2 Gorditas for 33 pesos, about $1.65 dollars. That's a great deal. The place may be hard to find since it's in a callejon, but asks the locals. Everyone is super nice and they'll guide you.

You get an option of 2 main dishes to choose from and typically most people go for the Enchiladas Mineras. You can get the Enchiladas with or without chicken. Unless you are a vegetarian, go for the chicken. The chicken is so soft and flavorful and the enchiladas have the perfect seasoning. The cheese, carrots, potatoes all are such simple but powerful additions to the dish that you cannot help but almost lick your empty plate within minutes. The pickled jalapeños and carrots that are served on each table are so delicious and the jalapeños have such a nice kick to complement this dish. I also ordered the hibiscus juice, which honestly has such a large serving and is a must here! The place does get crowded at around 7pm with a line, especially since there are not that many seats. After almost an hour wait (trust me it is worth it), I was seated. If you come alone or with just one person, chances are, you will be sitting with strangers and making friends as you eat.
