My go to Mexican joint! Used to come here at least once a week but since my schedule has changed I have not been as often. I recommend the mix dip and the burritos deluxe. Come hungry cause between the all you can eat chips and salsa, some beer to wash it down and ordering all the yummy foods off the menu you are sure to leave in a food coma. Friday nights can get kinda busy so make sure you have some time to wait but other than that I would recommend this place for anyone who wants so good old Mexican! read more

We really enjoy our visits here. It's convenient to us from home (and Target :)). The salsa is tasty, chips are warm, and the white queso is great. I most enjoy the chori pollo dish although it is a bit odd getting mashed potatoes at a mexican restaurant, but hey, it's there, and I eat it. Service is quick, the place is family friendly, and there is plenty of seating - we've taken grandparents there many times and there are several tables available for seating large parties. It isn't first on my list for mexican food in Winchester but it's at the top, and is most convenient if you're up in the Snowden Bridge area. read more

My experiance was much different than other posters while visiting the newly opened Las Trancas. Both my wife and I found the service excellent and the food quite good. We arrived at peak lunch hour. It was quite busy and we were seated promptly, shortly after a large basket of chips & salsa arrived. We order our drinks and a bowl of cheese dip. The dip was excellent. My wife ordered the Carnitas and I the Enchiladas Verdes. Both were quite good, the Verde sauce was a bit of a turn off being such a bright green, the flavor was very good. The Carnitas were also good, maybe just slightly under seasoned. Both came with rice and beans and cooked very well. Everything arrived hot. Portions were very fair. Inside you find everything very clean. There is also a nice bar area with TV's. Las Trancas serves well above average Mexican at a fair price. I look forward to going back. read more

Came here totally randomly... I was stoping at the near-by Target to get some road supplies when I felt the need to grab a bite. It was noon, so it made sense. I then looked around and saw "Las Trancas" in the same strip mall complex. I was expecting more of a Taqueria but this place is really a full restaurant. Now, my expectation are never really high for Mexican food on the east coast but this place is decent. I had a plate with three enchiladas, salad, rice, guacamole, all served with complementaries chip and salsa and it was quite good,.. it was also way too big, I should have eaten half and take the rest away. The whole thing was around $10 (they have cheaper lunch options). It is a nice and comfortable restaurant and the service was fast and friendly. Jeepers. Where to start? I visited my father in Winchester/Front Royal two weekends ago. On what was to be the last night of my trip, my father suggested that we grab some Mexican at Las Trancas, a relatively new-to-him restaurant. At first blush, nothing seemed awry: the restaurant appeared to have a typical Mexican restaurant decor, and was relatively packed for a Sunday with a refried bean loving crowd. But pretty quickly, it became very clear that multiple staff were either a) exhausted and defeated from the weekend, b) couldn't stand the sight of our portly, lard craved faces, or c) all of the above. Our waiter, by contrast, did go out of his way to pour on the charm when it counted, but no one else who helped us said a word or broke a smile. The experience was odd, and certainly didn't make me feel good about being there. The food was standard fare. As I intended to drive home to Ohio the next day, I didn't get a chance to sample any of their drinks. I ordered some chicken fajitas, which came with the typical pico de gallo, guac, lettuce, sour cream, beans, toasty tortillas, and rice. I skipped the rice and tortillas, and mowed down some greasy meat and veggies in their place. Fast forward to 11:30 p.m.-- OH MY FREAKING GAWD!! I hit the bed early, anxious to get an early start the next day, when I woke up with the most agonizing abdominal pain I have ever encountered in my life. Unable to sleep or sit comfortably, I finally called my father around 3 a.m., and asked him to take me to the nearest hospital. While the ER staff couldn't call it food poisoning without testing some things you really shouldn't mention in a restaurant review, they weren't quick to rule it out. And while it is not fair for me to claim the same in the context of this review, the physical pain and lackluster service won't be something I seek out during my next trip to the area. After having moved here, one of the things I miss most is good Mexican food. (Plaza Azteca, I loooved you!!!). Heard this place was really good...got all excited, and went to check it out. Um, no. I'll just call this place decent Mexican food as this is my 3rd time here for lunch. Standard faire, nothing special or to complain about. The chips are fresh, salsa is pretty runny but good, and the service friendly and efficient. Portion sizes are tempered, not as hefty as a lot of other places but certainly still more than you should be eating. Extra props today though; I asked for some limes and a jalapeño and I got two full jalapeños and a freshly cut full lime. Nice touch! Got the kids the kids taco meal, side of fries and I got the number 6 (burrito, enchilada, and a soft taco) My wife took the opportunity to get out of the house so she drove over to pick up the food. I will tell you, that if you know what GOOD Mexican food is you will understand that this restaurant in general... is sub-par anyway. When I started my soft taco everything was fine until I got to the end... I took a bite and BOOM! Something very hard... yet chewy... I pulled a piece of TRASH out of my mouth. It was some part of a bag or something.. it was yellow and seriously the size of a half dollar.. not lying one bit. I specifically signed up on yelp just to write this review. Stopped here since we were at the Lowes and figured it was a place that we should give a shot. Glad we did. This is some of the best Mexican food I've had on this side of the country. My wife had the enchiladas verdes, while I had the carnitas. Both came to perfection, and we were stuffed by the time dessert rolled around (which we got as well.) And when the manager stopped by just checking in and we told him about what was happening, he walked away without doing or saying anything. Here's the story... I have food allergies. Tomatoes & any tomato derivatives cause anaphylaxis creating the need for emergency intervention if exposed. It absolutely sucks but is what it is... we rarely go out because of this but it was our anniversary and we both love Mexican food. Prior to ordering, we explained to our waiter my allergy and the severity. He looked at us like we had 3 heads. I ordered plain white cheese-dip for my chips but asked if it had any salsa mixed in and he said it was cheese dip, with an eye roll. I then ordered the chicken fajitas with no tomatoes and no seasoning on the chicken or veggies. I also ordered only refried beans as they don't "typically " have tomatoes. My husband ordered the steak fajitas with only rice, no beans. We both ordered a bowl of shredded cheese for the fajitas. We both said NO to all other sides & garnishments. When he brought our fajitas, 45 minutes later, he put them down and left. No wraps for the fajitas, no sides, and no cheese. We reminded him as he flew past our table 3 different times... in about 5-7 minutes, he brought out the sides. My husband received a plate of beans, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream. Mine was rice, tomatoes, lettuce and sour cream. We again told him about my allergy to tomatoes and that we had gotten the incorrect sides. He rolled his eyes at us and grabbed the plate of beans and left. (Still no wraps or cheese & drinks were empty). 2 minutes later, he brings my plate of beans, lettuce & sour cream & loudly placed it in-font of me. It still had tomato juice & seeds in the beans & under the lettuce. When I showed him, he again rolled his eyes & said it did not! I asked him to please just get some new beans & put them in a separate bowl. 5 minutes later he came back (still no cheese or wraps) and said I couldn't have any of their beans because they were made with tomatoes. He did bring our wraps but still no cheese or drinks. At this point we asked another waitress, who was VERY KIND, to assist us with cheese, drinks, and to see about the beans. She immediately brought our drinks & cheese and confirmed the refried beans had tomatoes but the black beans did not. So she had brought some for me! Our waiter had walked past us while the sweet server was assisting us at least 5x. The manager was walking past making rounds and asked us how we were doing. My husband was honest and said out server was horrible. He gave examples and stated our concern about the waiters disregard for my allergies. The manager asked if we were okay now and quickly walked away before we could answer. I had made and was eating my fajita, when I started feeling my tongue start to swell and my breathing becoming difficult. I stirred my fajita mix around and found tomatoes under the mix of green peppers, onions, & chicken. My husband quickly paid and we went outside where he had to administer emergency shots to counter the allergic reaction I was having. I understand & accept the risk of possible or accidental cross contamination while out. However, I have NEVER been treated so rudely or so dismissively by any other restaurant. I've NEVER had a waiter roll their eyes at me or act as if I'm a burden and I've NEVER had a restaurant seemingly hide dangerous food under the food after being informed of the ramifications of said dangerous food. Lastly, when my husband rushingly paid at the front, the manager did not ask if all was okay or how our meal was... he was dismissive and uncaring. Went in solo for lunch last week and the server was prompt and attentive. The ambiance is warm, and the decor and music were very nice. A big basket of fresh, fried in-house tortilla chips and bowl of salsa were brought out immediately. I had the enchiladas with traditional red sauce, sides were rice and refried beans. Never have I posted a review for a restaurant, but I am in disbelief as to how horrible the customer service has become here. I ordered a to go order of chorizo queso to find out upon getting there that they now charge an extra $2 for a bag of chips (half-filled paper bag of stale chips at that) with my order of queso. Jokes aside, am I supposed to spoon-feed myself the queso? I've ordered this many times in the past and never been charged for chips. I was prompt in my pick up and when i tried the queso it was lukewarm at best. Also, my coworker who came with me ordered a combo of tacos which was listed in the menu as 5.99 and they tried to charge her 6.99 and then he proceeded to ARGUE with both of us when we inquired about both situations. The place is small, tables packed tightly next to booths, but you can always get a table, the longest we ever waited was about 4 mins. The rice and beans are bland, but I usually skip the beans anyway, I feel a lot of the meats are under seasoned, carnitas, carne asada, chicken... Salsa is great! We ordered a small salsa- now they give you a tiny salsa with a bag of chips when you order normally, just like if you were eating inside. I got home and realized they just gave me a "free" size salsa and I had even paid for 2 large bags of chips. We called them to ask if we could come get the salsa we paid for and the flour tortillas they forgot to give us for fajitas. They said we already got the salsa we paid for. We said no, we were charged for the bigger size but got the free size. So we drove back across town to get the tortillas and salsa. They charged us for the salsa again, wouldn't hear otherwise. We come here for lunch fairly often. The food is always good staff is very polite. Price is very reasonable for the snot of food you get.
