I've been here at least 10 times, and only now remembered to leave a review. They've upgraded to a much larger food truck now, but the amazing street tacos are still the same! The tacos are double tortilla'ed and only come with cilantro, onion, and salsa (as they should). Think 3-4 bites per taco, so I'll usually get 4 or 5 in order to feel full. There's always a diverse line of people waiting to order, so you know it's good . Service is fast, and there are some good shaded and unshaded seating areas around. Quick, delicious, and cheap. I don't know what more you could ask for in a taco truck. My entire lunch was under $10 which is almost unheard of in austin for such great tacos. I got there for lunch at 11:30 and managed to snag the last spot in their lot but people are always coming and going so parking shouldn't be difficult between street parking and the lot. I came to this amazing food truck twice while I was in Austin! I've tried their beef tongue quesadilla along with beef tongue tacos! Both times I was pretty satisfied. I will be the first to acknowledge that Austin is absolutely a top tier taco city, but if I'm being honest I've always put Texas and specifically Austin tacos in a separate box from the Los Angeles street tacos that I'm used to. Enter Las Trancas, who have not only bucked the Austin trend in favor of truly traditional street tacos, but they've done so in a way that's competitive with some of the best I've had. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Nice guys in an efficient truck who will have your tacos out to you in maybe fifteen minutes max. What more could you ask for? Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? This is how tacos should be. $2.00 each, and on the small side so that you can order five of them, with five different meats, and just have yourself a healthy balanced taco diet. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This. Taco aficionados in Austin? Take note, because this is how you do it. You start with dope boy fresh tortillas (throw some lard in there for good measure), and from there you focus on high quality seasoned meats, the right ratio of onions and cilantro, and a nice consistent salsa. Food was good, although a bit more expensive compared to other taco trucks I have tried. However, don't let that fool you. What an amazing food truck. They have several different options but I came here for the breakfast tacos. These are tiny (like the size of your palm), so you can easily finish at least 3 in one sitting. But just as they're small, they're super cheap! These tacos also come with tomatoes but I opted out. I had 2 carne asada tacos, 1 barbacoa, & one carnitas taco. The first three were yummy, but the carnitas were hard, so I wasn't able to eat it. I love salsa verde on my tacos & I was given more than enough since a little was all it took for a nice kick. We had the Barbacoa Tacos here about a week ago. Tacos were ready fast (less than 10 mins) and the owners were nice. May be a little tricky to get parking, but there's a residential street you can use right across from the normal parking. That's just Austin overall though. The tacos were tasty, but were a little "watery" for us. Having the juices in the taco is always great, but it was to the point that it made the tortillas a little soggy. I think that's also offsetting the seasoning away from the barbacoa itself as others also mentioned. Overall it's fairly priced for Austin Tacos at $2.50 a pop and still worth a try! read more

As a Mexican, I love these tacos. They are so authentic and so delicious. The tacos are a little small but they're pretty full and fill me up. One thing I wish was different was if they offered ice and cups. I'm a person that dislikes drinks without ice. I've had to walk to Cenote to get ice :( but i keep coming back cause the food is so so good. Based on Yelp reviews and being the taco lover that I am, I tried the Al Pastor tacos at this truck. I had no problem parking as it was the end of lunchtime on a frigid day, and the order-taker was welcoming, with no language barrier. All pluses so far. As I was getting street tacos (about 4" in length), I ordered one more than I usually do. Al Pastor comes in several forms, and I did like the size and cut of theirs. The flavor, in my opinion, could be deeper--maybe marinate longer? They weren't what I'd call juicy, but not dry, either. I chose flour tortillas, and I had to do a double-take to see that they weren't actually corn, as they almost had the same thickness and texture. I was very disappointed with the scarcity of toppings (cilantro and onion only; no pineapple)--a heavier hand is definitely needed. I requested creamy green salsa, and it was delicious, but definitely spicy enough to make your nose run. Though I can handle spicy, I'd rather enjoy eating lots of salsa comfortably, without numbing my taste buds and having to guzzle liquid to extinguish the burn. That's just my preference. Lastly, I wasn't too keen on the expense of the truck tacos. I feel like I paid more than I usually do, probably since they are street-sized, but priced as regular sized, so you have to order more for the same meal satisfaction. The prices for their other offerings--burritos, quesadillas, and tortas--I feel are down right expensive. Overall I'd say that I can get similar or better Al Pastor tacos from other places, so I probably wouldn't make an effort to return. read more

Before leaving Austin, I just HAD to try some tacos. After searching and searching on Yelp, I settled on Las Trancas. It was probably one of the best decisions that I have ever made in my life. We got there a bit early, around 4-5PM to grab an early dinner before we head out. They have a good variety of options for you to choose from but I came here for tacos! Most tacos were $2 each, which is a steal. I decided to go for a carne asada and lengua. My husband got a carne asada and an al pastor. We both got salsa verde and salsa rojo. However, if you ask them for the VIP sauce, they give you this green creamy guac looking sauce. If you like spicy, you NEED to get this. If you can't handle too much spice, you still NEED to get this. This sauce was amazing. How do I make this sauce?! Great for tacos, great for chips, great for everything! Their tacos were also very delicious. The lengua melted in my mouth and had tons of flavor. The carne asada also had a huge amount of flavor. Both had onions and cilantro in them. You are able to get them on the side if you wanted though. I couldn't resist later and got myself a third taco. I decided to try their tripas but unfortunately, it wasn't as good. I did not realize that they would overcook their tripas to the point where some pieces seem deep fried. It was overly crunchy and wasn't as flavorful so I would say skip it. Definitely try the carne asada, lenguas, and al pastor. Way delicious. If I ever was in Austin again, I would definitely come back. read more

We spent 4 full days in Austin and visited Las Trancas twice. With so many other spots to visit and try, Las Trancas didn't disappoint the first time and had later hours than other spots we were looking at. I haven't explored much of Seattle's taco truck scene, but inspired to see what we have after this good food experience. Easy parking in their lot or in the nearby residential area. The service is fast and there was covered seating to be protected during the start of the storm First visit I got two campechanos tacos and second visit I shared a carne asada burrito with a fam member. The hot sauce had a nice spicy kick. Very reasonably priced and flavorful. Will keep this spot in mind next time I'm in Austin. read more
