I was in the area and due to the reviews and it being lunchtime I decided to try this place out. It is a mom and pop restaurant and when I arrived, no cars in the parking lot and I was the only customer. The ambiance was very simply decorated. There are no prices on the food board and I was quoted prices for different meats by the worker. I ordered a bean tostada, lengua taco and a soda. Keep driving. You'll find better beef elsewhere. We had tostada plate, torta de carne, y un platillo de enchiladas. Our plates were ordered as take out. The beef was as if it had been reheated. The enchiladas were overly spicy! I wonder if they accidentally used the wrong salsa for the enchiladas. As for the establishment, it is quaint and offers plenty of indoor only seating. I came here at lunch since I was in the area and it rated very high on Google, as well as Yelp. The building is small and doesn't look like much from the outside. Inside there are 8 or 9 tables/booths to choose from. I ordered a carne torta, and just thought it was alright. I've had several tortas in my life and this one seemed to be nothing special. Meat, lettuce,tomato, avocado, bread. I also added an aqua fresca de Sandia. This was the type that uses shaved ice, not like a water at some other restaurants or food stands, which is not my favorite type. I also tried a banana liquado to see how it compares to my favorite place in houston.. well, it wasn't nearly as good or well put together. A lot of ice chunks, guess they don't use high end blenders here. Overall, atmosphere here is not the greatest, and I don't think they turn their lights on, as the interior is just natural light in the building. Not sure how they stand out from all the other mexican food places in town. I saw every other table ordering tacos, so apparently I should have ordered those instead. read more

Enchiladas were extremely spicy but had good flavor. I ate them but sweated through them. Charged $2.35 for each enchilada. Ordered agua but no refills so charged twice. They have a snow cone menu but no longer make them. The kids got paletas and ice cream from the freezer but they were stale and frost bitten. Hubby had the carne torta and it was excellent. Lesson? Order what they're known for and don't stray from the menu. When they say spicy they mean it. read more

So to find a really good torta and then to recommend it to the family is a big step. The menu wasn't big and it seemed that most items were the same thing with one thing added or taken away. One of the best mom and pop torta shops I've visited in McAllen. There is literally an old man and an old lady behind the counter giving the torta the traditional taste any Mexican looks for. Took me back to my childhood living in Mexico. It's a great place overall. You can even spark a conversation with the people running the shop or other customers. Situated off of 15th street downtown district one block before Houston on your left hand side, since ur driving south is Las Rocas!!! bit confusing if you google it? it comes up Super Tortas Acapulco?? so if its L.R. or S.T.A. don't matter they make a pretty good torta(had the chicken, but the lengua sounds interesting??) A+ on the salsa!! they also offer tacos, enchiladas, and tostadas which I wouldn't mind going back and trying the tostadas plus forgot to mention aguas frescas and liquados!!! very attentive and friendly service!!! when ever in the area will stop for sure!!! read more
