Easy to find via Google Maps. Parking is a little tight and seems like barely enough but we did find parking at 5pm on a Sunday. Cool building, fun decor, booth was comfortable. Friendly staff and we never ran out of water. Wasn't busy at all. Lovely mexican music that wasn't overpowering. Felt like quite a while before we got food but maybe that was my hunger. My shrimp was excellent - cooked perfectly. Just in garlic butter. Rice was pretty bland, not spicy at all. Beans were basic and a large portion. Friend loved his beef enchilada but they did have a little spicy hot kick. Friend got the pork carnitas and said it was okay, not the best in red deer. Friend asked for hot sauce and was given a little bowl full but he tried it and it was toooo hot to use! Which is awesome they have something so hot for those spice lovers. Flan portion was large and would have been a lot of 2 people. It was very good,soft, smooth, creamy. Not a lot of flavor. Deepfried ice cream was Massive. First time I have Ever gotten Deepfried ice cream that wasn't already half melted- this thing was frozen solid. Bland vanilla ice cream inside but they were liberal with the chocolate sauce and whip cream. Was fried in what tasted like corn flakes which was good. Definitely a large portion for 2 people but worth it. Best I've ever had, but do wish the ice cream was better. Overall very authentic Mexican if that's what your looking for! read more

Sat quickly and took a look at the menu. Steak and ribs don't jump out at me as authentic Mexican, but that's a story for another time. We were served a plate of chips and salsa when we were seated. The first thing I noticed was the unusual greasiness of the chips. Could use to be shaken off a bit I think. The salsa was very pungent with cilantro. If you like cilantro, that's a good thing. Unfortunately I don't, and they can't make the salsa without it, so I did without for our meal. We ordered the nachos to start. Described as chips with 4 ounces of cheese and jalapeños, it was quite disappointing. Apparently 4 ounces of cheese means 4 fluid ounces (half a cup). Greasy chips, cilantro salsa. A smattering of jalapeños. Underwhelming. We both ordered the enchiladas. I, the beef, and my wife had the chicken. We ordered the hot spice version. I barely noticed any heat at all. It might have been drowned in the over abundance of liquid on the plate. Maybe they are trying out a new enchilada soup recipe. Either way, it needs to go back to the drawing board. The rice was flavourful though seemed dried out under a heat lamp. The refried beans were boring, could use a lot more seasoning. The enchiladas themselves were soggy and sloppy and sloppy looking. The beef was bland and overcooked. If this is the kind of food you see in Mexico then I'm happy that I'm not missing much by having never been there. read more

Very good mexican food, very clean environment, family friendly. The food was very good, well cooked and quick. Was not greasy as commonly happens at other Mexican places we've eaten. Service was reasonable, and considerate. The only complaints would be that the food was not as spicy as we'd like or have had elsewhere, and the prices were a little higher than expected. read more

HORRIBLE FOOD. I ordered the chicken enchilada meal and I'm not sure what was served, but it wasn't enchiladas. The enchiladas which should be an actual corn tortilla was instead something I've never had before and it wasn't good. The chicken tasted almost Italian....bad Italian but definitely NOT Mexican. The beans tasted slightly burned and the rice was similar to something you would heat up in a microwave from Uncle Ben's. I had heartburn and stomach pains for SIX HOURS after eating here and will NEVER return. I consider myself somewhat of an expert on Mexican food because not only am I Mexican and grew up with homemade Mexican food but I'm from San Diego, California which borders Mexico. I'm new here to Canada and I have yet to eat anyhting that even resembles decent Mexican food....aside from my own kitchen. Dude. Seriously. I should have known when I spotted the jambalaya and Alfredo on the menu. I should have known. This is awful Mexican food, and it isn't too great for just food either. The kind of thing that if your aunt invited you over for dinner you would politely tell her it was great and wave off seconds. I ordered the chicken soft tacos. For $16 I might add. I received, two tacos, neither soft nor crunchy, with sliced blackened chicken in the tortillas. That is it. Nary an onion, not a flake of cilantro, and no queso in sight. Just chicken. Did you pick up on the blackened part? And I don't mean actual blackened, I mean that mixture of spices used in pseudo-Cajun cooking. On a freaking taco. The chicken was dry, almost certainly nuked and absolutely prepackaged and seasoned. Fortunately, I received a complimentary dollop of sour cream so I could moisten it up enough to eat it. Had I required additional sour cream/lubricant, it would have cost me $2. My boyfriend ordered the beef enchiladas. Not actually enchiladas. My Scotch-Irish Midwestern self could make killer enchiladas compared to...whatever those were. They were taco shaped, smothered in yellow cheese, and full of what appeared and tasted like leftover pot roast with just a hint of enchilada sauce. I have been searching for the last 3 years here in Canada for a good Mexican restaurant. Sadly, I am still looking. I visited this restaurant tonight with the hopes that I might find some good Mexican fare. I was impressed with the salsa which was very tasty and fresh. That's about as far as I can go with a complimentary statement. I ordered the chimichanga plate, which was a special tonight. I noticed a twang when I took a bite of the chimichanga and the beans. I began to detect a note of a strong cheese presence. I found out from my waitress that the restaurant added feta cheese to my chimichanga and sprinkled feta cheese on top of my beans. Feta cheese and Mexican do not go together. The store did receive a 3-star rating from me mainly because of the very friendly and attentive waitress I had and the decor of the restaurant. read more

The atmosphere at Las Palm is always one of my fav parts. The food is meh, the service is meh the prices are too high. But with a couple of TVs, the big windows, the Mexican music and decor it always feels kind of fun. Like I said the food and service- really nothing special but not bad either. The plate of free chips and salsa (salsa is great) is always super tiny and you have to ask for more 14 times just so your table of 8 people can have 4 chips each. Just give a basket already and a nice helping of salsa. And owners. Sell yourselves. You're a cool Mexican restaurant. We went on a Saturday night and the place was dead and uninspiring. Your servers never tried up selling your desserts or delicious deep fried ice cream, your employees didn't seem happy to be there and that place has so much to offer! 5 stars always and forever. read more

Went in for a family dinner tonight. Was told there was a problem with one of our meals and it would be right out. Turns out the problem was the ribs were no good so they had to get fresher ones. If we had been told that we could gave ordered a faster meal, instead it took 20 min for it to be ready at which time we were already done eating. She brought it out to go and expected us to pay full price. When we asked for compensation we were told that she was not authorized for that. So we said we weren't taking it and would not be back. She told us that's fine. Wow. We went to pay and she grudgingly said she would take half the price off. We took it just so my hubby could eat dinner at home but what a horrid experience. I first heard about this restaurant years before we even moved to Red Deer as it was my husbands favourite growing up. The food is great, the service is amazing and the margaritas keep me coming back for more! Great place for a casual night out regardless if you are with your kids or on a date. I have been to this establishment 3 times in the past 10 years and I remember why there was such a long gap in visits. The food is very over priced, bland and as far from authentic Mexican as you can get. The "fresh" guacamole tastes freshly squeezed from a pre-packaged bag and tastes like it. The general opinion of our group was regretful for choosing this restaurant. On the positive side the waitress was very attentive and friendly and the bathrooms were clean. I rate it 2 stars because the food was fully cooked, just unsavoury and disappointing and the establishment was decent. I was let down and will not be going back unless major changes occur. read more

While this IS Mexican food I've had way better in other places & countries. The food dished out is an Americanized or in this case a Canadianized version of what Mexican food truly is. I lived in Puerto Rico for almost all of my life & visited fast food joints of Mexican inclination (like Taco Bell, Taco Time & The Taco Maker- a P.R. version). I've also had a semi-fast food joint there called Taqueria Azteca (Aztec Taco place) owned & cooked by Mexicans & it is what I'm using to compare the food part of this review. The food is bland & most needs salt added. I assume the cooks do this on purpose so that the Canadian customer adds their extra heaping serving of salt & black pepper that my Canadian husband & family always add. None of them are smokers, by the way (smoking kills the tastebuds slowly). I assumer part of the problem is the lack of access to the real Mexican cooking ingredient because of weather. The ambience is quite Latino with Spanish speaking music which took me back to my childhood or driving with my father. Clean & child friendly place with decent to less than desired service which I usually tip according to what their service was (I was also a waitress). Summing it all up, while the place is clean & nice & mighty Mexican-y the food lacks that spark that makes it Mexican. I feel sorry for those who think that's real Mexican food for they will die from tasting what real food taste like. If you want better flavor, find a recipe on the internet & try it. You'll save A LOT of money & notice quite a difference. read more

My husband and I were there on Sunday Jan. 18th. We hadn't been there for a few years because the food and service had gotten so bad and nothing has changed in that time. My corn tortillas were rancid! The chicken in my meal was overcooked and I'm not sure how it was suppose to be seasoned but it bordered on disgusting. In a couple of years I will not make the mistake of "trying" this restaurant again and I'll make sure I tell all my friends and neighbors about this place. read more
