A fresh look (remodeling) and new managers, Las Islas Bar & Grill has never been better. I have worked in this area for about 10 years. So I was going to this place at least since 2015 or 16. Now we live in Berwyn since 2017 and this is always been our go to place. The service is fast. Everyone has been super nice and they even stayed open during the pandemic with outdoor seating (I actually really miss the outdoor vibes.) Whenever we're in the mood for something delicious and fast, we always end up coming here. It's a plus they have beer because some places don't have alcoholic beverages. While I'm not a big cocktail drinker, they have cocktails too and delicious micheladas. Such a good, solid place and always good quality and good service every time we've been there over the last five or six years at least !! Leaving one star because I can't leave zero . Our drinks had ZERO alcohol in them and when we complained the waitresses came out with "complimentary" shots laughing at us MIND you they served an underage person a shot as well. We get into the restaurant and they tell us to charge $20 just to get in the restaurant because they have live music then we have to pay another three dollars with our price if we use a credit card beside that we were also ordering take out and we had to tell the person who was telling us to pay 20$, to get away. Price super high for the quality of food. Since they changed the management prices are ridiculous. They dont even have a website or a menu where you can actually see the menu and the real prices. Hmmm, really surprised that this business is not on yelp yet. Oh!! I know why!! It's because this place is as authentic as it gets!!!! Only one waitperson spoke english!!! We were heading over to try this tapas place in Berwyn, but it was closed for the holidays. We passed this place and I was entranced by the neon crab in the window and i believe i saw the word "mariscos", which is something sea or ocean-related, right? So, I'm sent in to be the pigeon and I asked for a menu and was met with smiles. Eventually, they figured out what I was looking for and the one server who spoke english handed me a menu. Okay, we're in. The first thing they do is serve you some yummy fried tortillas with some shrimp ceviche and hot minced jalapenos. With the help of our waitress, we ordered the empanadas, some Guacamole, Platillo de langostinos, Tilapia filet soup, Queso fundido with shrimp and some pineapple thing: Piña rellena, basically a pineapple filled with shrimp, scallops, clams, and crabs with white sauce topped with broiled cheese and it has a hint of coconut flavor. Unique!! OMG! dinner was not cheap, but well worth it. the langostinos were out of this world. i swear it tasted like it had some salty shrimp paste (asian) used as the marinade. but they were crazy addictive. the pineapple thing was very rich and very tasty. if you want authenticity, go here. i swear i felt like i was in mexico. the place was filled with mexican families with children and mexican couples on dates. cool experience. read more

Least favorite Islas. I added a ton of ketchup, lime, salt and Valentina to my coctel. It was a party of 3 and the tip was included... which is fine sometimes but not today. Our food was delayed due to a problem in the kitchen. I'm ok with that too but we received the guacamole after the cooked food. That was def an item that could've been brought beforehand. I wish I could give this restaurant 0 stars. Super over priced for nasty seafood. The shrimp in the ceviche was actually grey just meaning it was under cooked. When brought the waitress attention I asked if i could switch it with the pescado ceviche instead and just flat out told me no then refused to take my plate off the table. The carne asada and grilled chicken was completely overcooked and took entirely too long to get to our table. And to top it all off when the bill came to our surprise it was alot higher than we thought it was going to be. The prices on every single thing we ordered from the menu were at least three dollars higher on the bill. So please listen to my warning and stay far away. read more

Always a good meal, service is fine as well- but they are not going to bother you- a server will stop by and ask if all is good, and then I can ask for beer or more of what we may need. That's perfect service to me. Everything I've had there is good- shrimp dishes, red snapper, drinks - all tasty and consistently prepared. I love the shrimp a la diabla, spicy but not terrifying! They don't rush you out the door even when it's crowded and I like the family atmosphere. On a week night, when it's slower, it's a nice comfortable place to relax over your meal and watch some soccer. Complimentary ceviche and tostadas when you sit down which is nice and tasty; chilled beer mugs which is a bonus and I am always satisfied with my meal and the prices are reasonable for the amount of food. It's my go-to neighborhood place for a nice meal. read more

Not a kid friendly place i asked for a chicken taco for my son and the waitress. Said we don't have tacos. Wth its a Mexican restaurant. Also my husband asked for a tamarindo jarritos and she gave him tamarindo juice. Disappointed customer. In no way did she give good service. Horribe... Horrible... The shrimp cocktail was awful worst I ever tasted. The waitress said that's because it is made Nayarit style they do not any condiments. It tasted like precooked shrimp with added water (with blended tomato sauce) and onions. I did tell the waitress and she said she would exchange it. I said, "no thank you". No no no. You don't put cucumbers in my Coctel de Camaron. You just don't. I'll blame myself though for not asking them how they prepared it. I was so excited coming here after work one day. All I wanted was a little ceviche and alot of Coctel. I got both. The ceviche was really good. Not amazing good, but very much enjoyed by me and my wife. I made the mistake of ordering the Coctel warm instead of cold. My bad. I'm really giving myself 3 stars and not them since I fucked up my order in various ways. But since I'm not a restaurant I can't give that rating to myself. I'd probably be biased and give myself a 5. But, I digress. I'll have to give this spot another chance, that way I review their food properly instead of my choices poorly. I give Las Islas and I 3 zau's. First I hate places that can't charge separate checks and this place is one, WTF! I order the ceviche de pescado and GUACALA! this looked like they ran it through the blender and tasted like tomato and onions. Should have asked how they prepare. My buddy had the huachinango al mojo d ajo which was ok just a lil dry. Felt disappointed since this mexican seafood places have somewhat of a good reputation but found it not everything they say is true. I might give it one more try with something else different but ill make sure this time I like the way they prepare it. My girlfriend and I are frequent customers at the restaurant. We have always ordered the same thing , it's become tradition. This morning we came in and ordered the usual, unfortunately the "langostinos" did not taste the same as they usually do. So , we politely asked the waitress if there were any way that the cook could try and fix it, the waitress politely agreed and took them back. Five min later she came back explaining that the cook did not want to fix them. It's really disappointing that a restaurant that we trusted would handle a situation so carelessly. My frienf took me here for a little birthday dinner. The restaurant is pretty run down and outdated. I'm usually okay with that since those are the best places to get some good food. The food was really nothing special, and the service SUCKED. there was only maybe 2 or 3 tables seated and we waited a long time for all parts of our meals. The most disappointing were the drinks and guacamole. We ordered a pina colada and it had no alcohol in it, we complained and they brought back the same drink just mixed. I wish I can rate this zero stars. I love seafood and been to many places. I visited this place for the first time. I've never had pulpo (octupos) that tasted so rubbery and flavorless. The chicken was rubbery and did not have any flavor either. The only thing that was good was the 1 beer I had and that's because there is no possible way to mess up an unopened bottle of beer. The waitress asked how the food was and she looked like she was in shock when I told her how rubbery the food was. I even told her to try it. She refused.
