Fried snapper with garlic. Very fresh.

Right on the beach, causal place. We really enjoyed the seafood here. I got the fried red snapper and it was great. We also got the coconut shrimp.

This my friends is real Mexico! We are staying at the Barcelo but walked over for some culture. Welcomed nicely, had some good food , a swim , a few smiles and a great time. I love this country and you will too !

    Jumbo shrimp???

Good simple food. I am giving it only three stars as I thought the giant shrimp on the menu were going to be large but they were small. The ceviche was ok and not the best. The michelada was the best and served in an extremely large mug. They don't except debit: credit cards and it's only cash: dollars and pesos. For $27.00 dollars, we can't complain.

Total rip off. Double charged us for lobster but wouldn't give us itemized bill. Food was not that good. Waste of a good view. Stay away!

After looking up good places to go, Bar La Playa came up- and I'm sure glad it did! First, it's easy to get to if you're coming from North. Our Uber was easily able to drop us off without getting stuck in gridlock traffic that can affect certain roads of this area. Additionally, the location isn't a high-traffic area for tourists. That meant we were able to walk up and immediately find seats. Second, the service was top notch. I didn't get the bartenders name, but he was very welcoming, friendly, hospitable and spoke English. Just an overall cool dude and was glad to support his business. Third, the drinks were great. Finally, we were drinking 'real' drinks, not the watered down sugary stuff at the hotel. We were very satisfied with the taste of the drinks. Fourth, the prices are really good. Mexico has gotten expensive and this was a sigh of relief. You can have a great time here without feeling like you paid an arm and a leg. I highly-highly recommend making Bar La Playa your first stop when coming to this area. You're going to get great service, great drinks and all at a price that is reasonable and fair.

They use tanqueray as their house gin which is unusual but a pleasant surprise as it actually happens to be my preferred brand. I didn't have high hopes for the martini - I find that outside of major U.S. cities places end up putting in way too much vermouth - and it actually ended up being fantastic. It didn't taste too different from what I would make at home which is probably the best thing I could say about a martini (for my own personal taste). I tried a fruitier one - the Gigi - as my second and final drink. It was good but I'm just not a fruity drink person. I just wasn't equipped to handle another standard martini lol. The ambiance is phenomenal - it was both casual and comfortable yet classy. The crowd was much older than I expected although not in a bad way at all. There were lots of expats in their 50s and 60s. I was worried it would be a rowdy rooftop and by contrast it was actually a very chill vibe. Only complaint is that the bathroom is outside of the venue down the stairs and you need a key to enter, which was a bit annoying bc I wanted to use the restroom before I left and I forgot to ask for the key on my way out. Small annoyance and certainly wouldn't prevent me from going back.

The breakfast buffet is unbelievable. If you can dream it, they have it. Not only do they have panoramic views of the beach, they also have every type of food imaginable. They had the cutest kids station with fruit kabobs, pastries, cereals, and more...they also had an omelette station, crepes made from scratch, 3 types of fresh squeezed juices, pastries, a yogurt station and so so much more! They have a pancake or waffle bar each day with various toppings. They also have potatoes of the day and they're always delicious. If you're wanting some bread, cheese and jam, they have that too! The service is fantastic too! All the servers, hostesses and bartenders were very attentive and accommodating! I'm going to miss this place!

We'd booked this as our first night dinner at the resort but we arrived on Halloween and were informed when we arrived for our reservation that the concierge attempted to call us and couldn't reach us. Apparently, the restaurant wasn't serving it's normal menu and instead offering a special holiday buffet. Not a huge deal but not the Mexican meal we'd been anticipating. Instead, I ended up with a couple types of pasta, papa duquesas (a mashed potato bite that was amazing), steak in a garlic sauce and fish in a chipotle sauce. There was also an assortment of Halloween inspired desserts and some special themed entertainment. We were only at the resort for 5 nights so this was our one opportunity to have a Mexican dinner here because we were booked at the other restaurants on the other nights. I'm looking forward to trying it when I return in April as there are multiple things on the menu that I'm making a note of, including: tableside guac, melted cheese, fish taco, chicken enchilada, steak fajitas and possibly the catch of the day. We did go back to try the breakfast buffet later in the trip though. It was a standard assortment of breakfast food with an omelette and crepe station and some Mexican dishes. I really liked that I was able to add turkey to my omelette. The beachfront outdoor seating is incredible. You can't beat the view!
