Two weeks ago, my car battery kept dying and I popped in to see if they could test the battery…read morecells for me. The front desk guy Mike told me no, says some bs that they don't have the equipment to do that. Bro I've had AAA tow trucks pop up on the side of the ROAD w/that little device and read my battery strength. Showed me the number too. So this is an insane thing to claim flatly that they can't do it, and expecting me to believe that it isn't a pretty big fail on their end if they can't do a simple current read with a 50 dollar device. Whatever. I move on. I ask him if he can test the draw from my newly installed soundsystem, to see if maybe that's the issue. He says no, and tells me to basically go to another store to get it figured out. I actually have to go into the parking lot to call an audio system store, to get the answers I need. I have some choice words with him bc I feel like he isn't trying in the slightest to earn my business. On the contrary I feel like he's telling me to go somewhere else. I apologize, and I buy a new battery cuz just like, fuck it. I prolly need one no matter what. When the job is done, I meet Michael (whom I think was the owner). Hewalks me around my car, is super helpful, polite, teaches me things I didn't know and tells me about some error codes that should be addressed. Shows me a bubble on my tire, we agree to take care of it next month. Well a week later I'm back in there, bc a whole bunch of fault codes keep being tripped but I know those corresponding elements (like power steering error, etc) are working. So it's probably a sensor or wire issue bc I just rewired my car audio the previous month, and it had a faulty ground that blew some fuses. Mike (the owner) is there when I show up . Super friendly, helps me out, remembers me, tells me "we'll call you before we incur any costs", which is a gracious thing to say. However I get a call a few hours later from Mike the front desk guy (however I thought it was the owner). Starts telling me the Tire Pressure Monitor System error is shorting the other systems, and the solution is 2 new tires bc the tread is different and tripping the TPMS. Yes. I'm aware that's why the TPMS light stays on. But what HE doesn't know, is that I have driven with that error code for over a YEAR, and previously for a few months. Funny...how back THEN it wasn't tripping any other fault codes, huh? I honestly thought I was talking to Mike the owner and I asked "well how come the TPMS error is only just NOW causing all these issues to all the other sensor issues?" and he says "I don't know." Oh I know who THIS is, now. I told him I don't agree with the assessment, and I'd like to pick up my car. I walked in, said "Here for the Civic." and he hands me a piece of paper. I have to SAY "....keys?" for him to go walk over to a wall, and get my keys. I said "That's two times in two weeks I've had an issue with you. I live up the street and would've brought 10 years worth of business. YOU'RE the reason why I'm not doing business here." And I left. It COULD be the TPMS sensor, but the way in which he explained things to me made me feel on multiple occasions that he didn't know what he was talking about and just being rude to me to cover that up. Or rude bc he felt like he didn't need to explain things to me. Either way, I'm not dealing with that shit. I'll find out from a dealer. As someone who worked for Herb Chambers for many years, what I learned is that the service teams at big dealerships are more reliable than ppl think to give them credit for. They are THE most knowledgeable ones for your make/model, and even if it isn't the lowest possible price, there's all kinds of guarantees with dealer shops they will honor, if work doesn't go right. Because if a shop was caught doing shady shit and ppl reported it, they can the RIGHT to sell that make of car (yes that can happen). Losing that status is the DEATH for any major dealership, so the service teams don't fuck around bc that would be the end of their job. TL;DR Mike the owner is very nice but Mike the front desk guy is not.

None of us live near "The Lake" or Nonantum in Newton any longer but we will still go out of our way to stop there...I just found out that their Newton location is directly across the street; no wonder James knew about it! My pristine condition 2006 Toyota Camry with only 120,000 miles was one of three cars hit and totaled by some brainless idiot on Rte 95 in Providence, RI back in December and I really mourned the loss of my mint condition baby. Anyway, found a 2003 Camry at their place in Rockland and am now driving it in RI...just got my inspection and the mechanic who always takes care of my car even said..."You got a nice little car...Good Deal"! I don't know about you...but I HATE shopping for cars...very stressful...but if my Toyota lasts another one hundred and fifty or two hundred thousand miles I will be back to hopefully find another Toyota Camry...obviously much newer. Love Toyota. Bottom line, you can trust these guys and they will do everything within reason to make you a Happy Camper of a customer!! Excellent!

I recently moved to MA and was in need of a cheap used car. Saw TC Auto Repair & Sales with a car…read morelisting I liked for real cheap. This dealer has GREAT reviews on Cargurus, Yelp, Google and Facebook so I figured I'd give it a shot. I called and asked if the car was still available and they said it was and that I can come test drive it. I got there and test drove 2 cars with absolutely no problem, he just needed a copy of my license. I decided to purchase the original car I came for. The sticker price was $4500 and all I needed to pay was $4500 via bank check. There was absolutely no other fees I had to pay directly to TC Auto Repair. Next, I had to get car insurance and get their auto insurance stamp/signature on the RMV Title and Registration form. I went and got Geico and they provided me with a prefilled auto insurance stamp/signature for the Title/Reg Form. I had to go back to TC Auto Repair for them to sign the dealer's portion of the Title/Reg form. TC Auto Repair had originally pre-filled and signed the form and it just needed the auto insurance's signature/stamp but for whatever reason Geico had to print their own version causing me to back travel for the dealer's signature. Then I had to go to the RMV with the completed form. I didn't have to make an appointment, I was able to just walk in. Took about 1 hour but it was to be expected as a walk-in. I had to pay the MA RMV about $75 for the title, $60 for the registration certificate and close to 7% of the vehicle's purchase value as sales tax. I was then handed the actual license plate. I was surprised I got actual plates on the spot because all of my cars in California, I'd get temporary plates (or no plates at all) and had to wait a week or two for the plates to arrive in the mail. The last step was for me to get the inspection sticker. I was ready to take the car to a local mechanic for inspection stickers. However, TC Auto Repair hooked me up with a free inspection and it took only about 15 minutes. The car passed the inspection and received an inspection sticker. I was done with the entire process and was able to go home. It's only been a day with the car but so far so good. I've had nothing but a great experience with TC Auto Repair and Sales. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone. I'll probably be looking here first if I need a new car in the future.

Suddenly I found myself on the market for a used car, and Auto Trader took me to an '98 used Camry with relatively low miles (less than 130K) for a fair price (just about $2,300). The car being 20+ years old, I wanted my mechanic to take a look at it. Taking the car for a test drive to his shop (~10 miles away) was not an issue. All it took was me leaving a copy of my license and phone number. Especially for its age, the car was in very good shape. Many important components related to power steering, brakes, and the radiator were replaced. The only areas of concern were a rusty (not leaky, though) fuel line, and that the alternator went as I was driving it (which they agreed to replace). Now the car wasn't perfect, the radio is missing a button and a knob, cruise control doesn't work, and some other minor details. Considering the price and great mechanical shape, I'll let these slide. This car might last a while (and I hope it does), but I realize it won't be forever, so I'm already saving for something newer. Negotiating was actually pretty painless. This might be partially attributed to the car being so cheap and having work done on it already. The person I was working with seemed honest and transparent, and wasn't taking me for a ride (pun not intended). I was able to knock it down a hundred or so, which in light of the new alternator and researched car value, fair. They then got me started on the paperwork and advised me of the next steps. I do have to get the insurance stamp and transfer plates, but the RMV is unavoidable in these cases, especially with much smaller family run dealerships. My car was my baby, the Camry I bought likely won't replace it, but I expect it to serve me well for a couple years. I do have some advice for this place: 1. Honor your opening hours. If the sign says your open at 8:30, be there then. 2. Be mindful of the features listed on your website. Don't put a car having heated seats and mirrors unless it actually has them. 3. Have the website default to available vehicles and not show the sold ones (at least by default). Overall though, the first used car I bought, and second one to ever be in the family, and it was a pretty good experience. When I find myself on the market, T&C will be the first place I look.
