Don't waste your hard earned Euros/Dollars on this hotel...read on…read more If you like a room with your sauna this is your place. However, if you want to control the temperature in your room look elsewhere because once the front desk flips the heater switch there is no turning back. If you enjoy sweaty pajamas while reclining on top of the bedspread throughout the night the Clonmel is an excellent choice. Management, clueless and inept, was contacted three times regarding the room temperature and said "we cannot do anything about the heater and we cannot change your room." Great! and the top of the morning to you too.... Dining at the Clonmel is an experience not to be forgotten. The three members of my family ordered steak, seafood and a chicken dish, but unfortunately we ordered "chicken wings with a salad" appetizer...very bad choice. The skinny wings with the flappers attached were deep fried and had a sickly non-breading grayish-beige hue and greasily sat atop some lettuce and tomato bits. Accompanying the chicken wings was a room temperature container of BBQ sauce. The main courses were just as awful and we should have walked 50 feet out the front door to the KFC in the parking lot. Of all the hotels I stayed at in Ireland, and there has been many, this is place doesn't deserve a half star especially after booking two rooms at $121.00 each. Management generously offered $16 off our food bill as compensation for the heater...wow!

One of the waiting staff showed us to a corner right beside a projection screen that was showing a match, one of two huge projection screens. We had a look at the menu on the blackboard and in fairness it sounded really good on the board. Most of the family went for the beef and lamb while I went for the hake. We ordered sausage and chips for my son and a baby bowl for my daughter. The first comment everyone made was about the stuffing. It looked like someone had got some bread crumbs, mixed some herbs with it and put it on a plate, really dry. Those who got the beef which included my wife said that the yorkshire puddings were extremely dry and overcooked, my sister couldn't eat hers. Everyone also said that the potatoes were dry and could have done with some butter put through them. As for my own dish, being a chef I can get very annoyed when simple things are not done right. The first bit of the hake I tried had about six pin bones in it. Anyone who has any standards as a chef should have known to check for bones but this simple step was not done. Fair enough if you found one maybe two you could say they were just missed but most chefs aways know to check the fillet by the head where you normally get a clump of pin bones. The hakes was meant to have come with a sauce but I'm guessing that was put on top of the hake on the hot counter and it evaporated. Once the chef had put my fish on the plate he passed it to the next server who put the veg on. Right in front of her she had chopped lemons for the fish but she seemed to miss the fact that they needed to be put on the plate. The fish also was really overcooked as was the veg. When we ordered my sons sausage and chip the server told us she would drop them down to us when they were ready. I told her where we were seated so she could drop them down. We were seated and eating for over 20 minutes before my sons food arrived delivered by I presume one of the owners. She said she had looked all over the place for us. Im guess communication is not one of their strong points. Overall I think the only one who did not complain about their food was my son once he eventually got his sausage and chips. Not a place I would be visiting again. With the dry, overcooked food, loud shouting from people watching matches on the two huge projections screens and poor service. Not a very family friendly place.
