UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!!! I have been coming to the Largo since the early 80's and I must say this is some of the best food I have eaten from this establishment in years! The fresh new look is spot on and the atmosphere just makes you feel like you're at your home away from home. Great job guys. It's nice to have a sit down place to eat in Quemado again that has good food to boot! Highly recommend!!

Market on first Saturday of the month. And cheapest country grocery store on our long trip.

Thank goodness Yelp helped me find this hotel! I called the phone number and we got ahold of Phyllis after hours. The room was about $100. It was amazingly clean and appointed like a house. Lots of fluffy towels. Small refrigerator and coffee maker. Ac worked great. Dark out shades. The sheets were bleached white and bed was just right. You've got to stop here when driving through New Mexico. We were driving from Texas to California. I give this little motel 5+ stars!!! Btw the cafe isn't the same business.

a sandwich and fries

First off, remember you are in a tiny town. Quemado, NM is a population of 173, so set your expectations realistically with regards to amenities. Once you do that I can highly recommend the Largo Cafe & Hotel!! I had the Green Chile Cheese Burger and fries. They were EXCELLENT!! Phyllis ran the front desk at the hotel. She's a little old lady but she is a spitfire Room was pretty basic but it was clean and had tv/WiFi/fridge/microwave. And it was soooo quiet there

Great burger and home cut fries! Was a lil sad the bun on the burger wasn't toasted. When the bun is not toasted is quickly falls apart or gets soggy. Great service! I was sad to see a patron bring her puppy in the restaurant (I doubt it was a service animal and if was then it should have had a vest identifying it as such) I'm all for fur babies but not so much in a sit down establishment, especially with the puppy whimpering and being held by multiple patrons. Other than that cute restaurant with good food.

After a rather full 8th day of cycling on my much-delayed "Sixth Annual First Quarter Odyssey" (15-23APR2023), I was immensely relieved to see this great "same-layout as the Mountaineer" LARGO MOTEL. When I reserved earlier, I was told to go another block to the unique Country Store, or, if it's closed, go another block to the Rito Quemada gas/convenience store to buy food because their own Largo Restaurant is closed for reconstruction. With enough daylight, I entered the Country just before closing time. I was fortunate to be the last customer, and was allowed the opportunity to explore this interesting place as well purchase microwaveable food. Like the Mountaineer Motel, I was extremely pleased with the firm mattress/microwave/flat screen TV and, of course, the WiFI! It was another exquisite/satisfying overnight, and definitely has my coveted "iWheel of Approval!"

This was an unplanned stop on my way from NM to AZ, but it was 30 something degrees outside and I was on my motorcycle. A stop for warmth was absolutely needed. What I got for my stop was this terrific breakfast - the Largo Cafe Breakfast. Eggs, thick bacon, hash browns and HUGE pancakes. Everything was well cooked and delicious. This is a worthwhile stop for anyone driving by.

The motel room was clean and had just about everything standard for a hotel a peg above a chain like Hotel 6. It's in a little town and attached to a restaurant. The highlight was Phyllis behind the counter, who had a schtick that made me snort more than once. She freely acknowledged that she's 77 and "an old fart". When I asked her if there was a room available she said "Let me get my slippers on and go look." She was hard to understand at times because she has a soft voice and she was wearing a mask. However, she did tell me that her sister talked her into taking this job and that one day her sister will pay. After she came back from seeing if there was a room available, she shuffled around a lot of papers for about 5 minutes and finally I asked if there was a room available and she asked me "Do you want internet?" This surprised me, frankly, and I told her I did want internet. She then proceeded to move somebody else who had a reservation but hadn't yet arrived so that I can have the room with a good internet. Ends up this was moot because I never could get the Wi-Fi to work. I didn't want to bother Phyllis about it because of how many times she told me how tired she was. She had been filling in for the house cleaning staff, who she'd allowed to go on vacation. The internet connection without the Wi-Fi was very, very poor, which these days shouldn't be the case. Every hotel room should have very good internet access, regardless of where it is or how big the town is. She then told me that she needed to come into the room after I got in, to show me how to turn the satellite television on. She said it would probably take about a half an hour for her to set it up. I told her I didn't want the TV. She looked at me and said "You're now my best friend." All of this was deadpan on her part. She had no idea how funny she was. The exterior of the hotel was quiet. I could hear the television in the next room, but it wasn't intrusive. There was plenty of everything that a person could need in the bathroom. There was a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. There was a comfy chair, which is always appreciated by me. Phyllis told me that she's retiring in May. I think the owners should offer her such a great pay upgrade that she'll never leave. She was delightful.

Worst dinner in years. Onion rings awful, fried in rancid oil. Burger tasted of old grill grease. Never again!

Tal-Wi-Wi Lodge - A view of Tal Wi Wi Lodge from across the lake

Tal-Wi-Wi Lodge

Anybody considering staying at Tal Wi-Wi needs to understand a critical fact: the entire lodge and…read morerestaurant was purchased by a wonderful and caring family in 2024 and a new grand opening was held in 2025. So any reviews prior to 2025 are null and void. What a difference a private owner makes! First, the setting of this lodge is out of some mountain fantasy dreamscape. It is just 2 miles north of the quaint and patriotic town of Alpine, which is like stepping into a world that no longer exists. The lodge is nestled in the ponderosa pines and aspen stands of the White Mountains, and sits along 3 small lakes. It is surrounded by breathtaking mountains, under the clearest blue sky you've seen in years. The only "noise" here was the sound of the wind in the trees. It is a literally perfect location. The family that runs the place is amazing. The word "amazing" has been overused to the point that it means little. But "amazing" is an apt adjective. They truly care and go far beyond the norm to please their guests. One of the areas where they have concentrated is the restaurant. They reopened "Shadows" Restaurant- on the property- after previous corporate owners had neglected it and run it into the ground. And the new place is different in every way. It's beautiful inside, with cedar-plank walls, timber ceilings, and an outdoor patio with an awe-inspiring view. And then there's the food. The new owners went all out on the food. They created a unique restaurant in Alpine. First, they don't use seed oils. Everything is cooked in beef tallow. If you've never had a French fry cooked in tallow, you've missed out on one of life's delights. Second, their beef is from a local (no, really) ranch. It is the best beef we've had in years. We ordered the ribeye and it easily surpassed even the $100 ribeye at Fleming's or Maestro's. The freshness and flavor was off the charts. The small-but-varied menu hits all the high notes: an unbelievable burger (made with their own blend of prime cuts) served on their homemade hamburger bun and served with those darned tallow fries. The pizzas are equally good, with a perfect homemade crust- no frozen restaurant pizza doughs here. Then there is the homemade pies (see a trend here?). The pies are some of the best we've had in years. And if that's not enough, one of the owners bakes fresh donuts fried in tallow, on weekend mornings. They're to die for. The restaurant is worth the drive alone. It's that good. The cabins are, frankly, rustic but in the process of renovation. The charm, though, is immeasurable. The rooms are romantic and rustic with some treasures (like the authentic 1950s wood-and-leather salon chairs). These days we lament days gone by and the romance of earlier eras. Tal Wi Wi preserves every ounce. Stay and feel what it was like in the classic "lodge era" of the 50s and 60s when western-themed lodges ruled the west. The owners are in the slow process of renovating all 20 rooms, but the beds are super comfortable and the views of the tall pines and mountains are unmatched. You don't come here to just sit in the room. And last we have the service. These kind people truly care. Emily- one of the owners- does everything she can to make each guest feel valued and cared for. She is the heart of this lodge, and her cheerful presence gives Tal Wi Wi a unique character. The entire staff is helpful, smiling, and kind. The restaurant is open Thursday-Sat right now though that may change so call ahead. And it only serves dinner (for now). Rooms are clean (though dated as I mentioned), beds are really good, water pressure is good, and the rooms have wall heaters which are quite effective. The draw here is the mind-blowing beauty of the White Mountains and the peace, serenity, and beauty found here. I've made a living as a writer for various airline and travel magazines, so I've seen it all. This place is a living dream for these wonderful Owners. It is clearly a labor of love. So come and experience the fruits of their labor, and of the unending vistas of the White Mountains around Alpine, Arizona. Oh and did I mention that the drinking water here (from true mountain springs where the lodge is located) is the best water I've ever tasted? And yes, water has taste. Come experience this gem from a forgotten era. The drive from Phoenix or Tucson is well worth it for this genuinely best-kept secret.

Happy to see it is reopened. Roasted Brussel Sprouts are amazing. Beautiful views on the deck, and…read morelive music.

Stay here if you enjoy blood stained sheets and towels, dirty linen, moldy bathrooms with wall…read morepaint chipped off in the bathrooms, rusty drains that have a metal ring loose in the tub. Seriously though, this place looks nice from the pictures and all but first night I found a blood stain the size of a golf ball in my bed. There is some kind of stain on the blanket that might be blood that is over the sheets. I told them about the bed and the maid only replaced the sheets. There are stains on the chairs as well. In the bathroom, there is mold growing on the wall and there might be also stains from something on the wall. Its hard to distinguish between the two. The bathtub has a ring that is rusty and loose, seems sharp and dangerous, I've been avoiding it so far. The window in the bathroom also has mold spores growing all over it and is cracked. On to the linen, I got back early from the job and house keeping stopped by, I requested clean towels and gave them the dirty ones back. The clean ones had, are you ready for this shocker... more stains of some kind on them and some were dirty with black stains. My coworkers have similar rooms and issues as well, so this isn't a fluke. In fact, he got his pillow case replaced from the maids dropping by while we were out to work and when he came back, he found a blood stain on one of his pillow cases. Going cheap on the linen seems to be common practice here. There was also guests that seemed to be smoking a ton of pot next to our room when we got back at night as well as in the morning, then we witnessed a drug handoff to another person right in front of our room. The WiFi barely works as well. You won't be streaming movies here at night in 480P. I will say the amenities in the room are decent, nice TV, nice furniture and there seem to be no bed bugs luckily. I'm up here for work for about a week or so, otherwise I would have changed hotels after the first night. I do not really have a choice in the matter. So if you are booking your employees somewhere, I suggest you try elsewhere.
