A random road trip led us to Quemado, NM and Casa Azul. We had absolutely no idea on what to expect but as we approached the tiny, little town I will honestly say we had some misgivings. (middle of nowhere, not much to the town, etc) But we looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders and said, "What the heck!" Upon arrival to Casa Azul we were greeted by the owner Kat in the lovely, patio area who welcomed us in to her place. Our room was lovely and quite comfortable ~ a nice queen bed with exceptional bedding, a sitting area and en suite bathroom (commode, sink and small shower. Everything is nicely decorated and inviting. Guests should know that there is no TV in the room but at Casa Azul, you don't really need it. There is a common area with large couches too ~ again, didn't see a TV in there. We actually watched a Netflix movie on the phone while we lounged in bed - great wifi service! Restful night of sleep and then Kat served up a fantastic, tasty breakfast before he hit the road. All in all, a very good experience. NOW.....you want the REAL experience? The dirty details? Well, let me give it to you straight. This is no ordinary B&B. This was like staying at a friend's home. I've never experienced anything like it and I loved it! I think each individual's experience is going to depend on what you're looking for and how comfortable you are with yourself and carrying on conversation with others. Was I somehow transported to my mom's house? Sister's? Cousin's? Best friend's? Because THAT is exactly how it felt! We played with her two little Chihuahuas who were adorable and friendly, met her horses and watched her feed them, scratched her kitty's ears, spent the evening hanging out in the large patio talking with Kat & her husband Marcial. My husband grilled meat and tortillas alongside her, I cut onion and limes in her kitchen and washed my dishes/cutting board in her sink while she made salad alongside me. The four of us sat in the patio - separate tables to keep our "social distance" and enjoyed a delicious carne asada taco dinner. **I should explain - Casa Azul does NOT serve dinner. There was nowhere for us to get dinner during this odd time in our world (COVID-19) but we did pick up some raw meat/tortillas at a grocery store in Springerville and hoped we could grill it once we arrived. Kat actually had a packaged, marinated carne asada that she needed to use so she suggested we use hers and take ours home. So we all ate dinner together outside under the stars in the wide open countryside. (The next morning we made sure to leave our raw, marinated meat with Kat to put in her freezer for later use.) We spent the evening talking and learning more about Marcial, where he grew up, how the two of them met... we talked fishing, food, old stomping grounds, Germany, etc. A few glasses of wine later and it was time for bed. The next morning we sat at the dining room table with Kat & Marcial and had a rousing, good conversation. I only wish hugging was still acceptable because those two deserved a big hug before we left. This B & B is a wonderful place to stay. Our visit was 2 nights & we couldn't have been more comfortable. The owner was so nice to talk to & made us feel very, very welcome. The room was cozy, bed was comfy & we had a very restful sleep. The common living area was very welcoming & everything was nice & clean. Coffee was ready in the morning & we were always offered breakfast (we don't eat breakfast but I heard it was very good). The owner, Katharina, is amazing. My husband & I very much enjoyed visiting with her & she's just a lovely lady to be around. We didn't get a chance to meet her husband, Marcial, who is also an owner... but I imagine with Katharina being so nice... he's got to be awesome too. If we ever make it back down that way... we will be sure to stop again... even if it's just to say "Hi" to Katharina. read more

Do not miss this great B&B. It's the best of what a B&B should be: homey atmosphere, nicely appointed rooms, gracious host, and delicious home-cooked breakfast. What a find! Before we even got to the door, we were welcomed by the hostess. We stayed in the "Ranch" room, which was very spacious with 2 armchairs and a small table, king size bed, 2 bedside tables and an armoir plus a heater that kept the room comfortable. The private bathroom had everything we needed, and the room was furnished in a homelike Western decor. In the evening, we discovered that illness had forced closure of the restaurant where we wanted dinner, so we picked up a couple of frozen dinners at the local grocery store, which suited us just fine. When we brought them back, our hostess, Teresa, helped us warm them in the microwave, set out forks, napkins, water, and chips on a decorative placemat at the owner's gorgeous wooden table. Then, she insisted on cleaning up after we ate. The next morning coffee was ready at 6:30, and later we were treated to a delicious egg casserole (I obtained the recipe), a fruit bowl of fresh bananas, berries, and orange sections, and perfectly cooked bacon. The owner, Kat, was out of town, but her communications were prompt and friendly. I felt like I knew her after chatting only a few moments. Her homelike touch was everywhere. Be advised that the owner has pets (friendly, well behaved) and there is no TV but a very comfy sitting area. We would go out of our way to stay here again. read more

I happened upon this place by chance, meeting the wonderful host couple Katherina and Marcial at Pie Fest (which I also stumbled across). Their home is warm and accommodating with all the amenities, but more importantly you get a sense of the personality of this part of New Mexico. Locals often stop in to say hi, giving a deeper appreciation for the community. Great star watching as well, by far the clearest night sky I have seen in my life! This is a little gem hidden away from all the hustle and bustle of the big city. Such a relaxing place to stay. Whether sitting out on the front porch or reading a book in the common area, you can't beat the peace and quiet here. The owners are very friendly and make you feel at home as soon as you get there. Wish we could have stayed for more than one night, but will be going back again soon! We made new friends for life. read more

No one was at check in time for my prepaid room. Did not respond to phone calls from me or Expedia. Had to call Expedia for refund. And had to drive 90 minutes to grant, nm, to find a motel in the dark. Sad! read more

My husband and I, along with our Chihuahua, Rico, spent 1 night here. Katrina and her husband are the best hosts and very friendly!! The bed and sheets were very comfortable, our breakfast was astonishing and we felt very lucky we were able to stay here. We only wished we could've stayed longer! Our primary destination in this part of New Mexico was Pie Town, but the closest accommodation was Casa Azul in Quemodo. In this case 'closest' was also 'best.' Their home is a beautiful oasis in the desert, their company is warm, welcoming, and casual, and the breakfast part of the BnB was amazing. After a long drive from the East Coast and enroute to Sedona, we spent a wonderful night at Casa Azul. A much needed break from the monotony of all the roadsides hotels. Situated in the midst of beautiful New Mexico high dessert, our hosts couldn't have been more welcoming and warm. The place was immaculate, charming and totally comfortable. The guest rooms share a woodstove common living room. Breakkfast was great, with some local baked pastries, on top of the eggs, bacon, fresh juice and coffee, not to mention good conversation with the owners and other guests. I am glad I found this traditional Bed & Breakfast for our stay in Quemado! My girlfriend and I were in town to visit the lightning fields and were in search of a place to stay for the night prior. Being a smaller neighborhood, the only hotel that showed up was the largo motel, which while it seems great in its own right, I was glad that I kept looking and happened upon this lovely locale. From the moment I called to inquire about the B&B, Katharina was the personification of professionalism, hospitality and courtesy. She was super accommodating of our late arrival and was sure to provide all the information we needed to arrive at her place. She even had us call her when we were one town over just so that she could make sure that we were not lost and were still okay which is above and beyond. Upon arrival, she was nothing but lovely. The house is beautiful, the views picturesque and the rooms were very comfortable. She keeps a very clean place, and we had a restful night's sleep. The next day, Katharina spoiled us to a delicious breakfast which was in my opinion, worth the slightly higher (although not ridiculous or unreasonable in the slightest) price of the stay on its own. She allowed my girlfriend and I the privacy we wanted when we wanted it, but also was pleasant to talk to when we sought to learn a little bit more about her. I cannot overestimate how much of a delight Katharina was. She allowed us to keep our additional car at her place while we visited the lightning fields and was sure to give us tips on the area near and far. I would definitely recommend staying with Katharina if you are ever in Quemado. The lightning field should also refer business her way because I thought that our stay there was the perfect lead in to a unique experience at the lightning field. We got to meet her husband on the way out, and he is amazing as well...he does construction work at the age of 80 which is incredible! This is the second time staying at Casa Azul and it is very roomy and comfortable. The hostess is delightful and goes out of her way to provide what ever you need. Her cooking is delicious and healthy. I highly recommend Casa Azul to anyone in the area as the best place to stay by far. After a long day, Casa Azul is like an oasis, with comfy beds, a cool breeze sitting on the porch and the comforts of home. read more
