I've had three different cars worked on here from basic brakes to a transmission. The prices are very reasonable and I've never had the feeling I'm being told something than what the car really needs. The turnaround times for repairs can be a day or two longer than a dealership because to don't stock most parts and to save customers money they work to find the least expensive parts. So be prepared to leave your car. If you have an urgent need they've been known to work until 8 or 9pm some nights and even on Sunday. They have a great work ethic and are very friendly. read more

This used to be my favorite shop. I have been using them for about 10 years. I normally dealt with a guy named Salvador who always took care of my vehicle and charged me an honest price. I am disappointed to say that the service is no longer what it was and I'm forced to find another shop. I dropped my truck off and went out of town to get married. Despite being on my wedding trip, I was still charged 3 days worth of storage fees which came out to $75. I explained to the person billing me that I wasn't able to get the car and I also had a friend call up to the shop and explain that I was out of town, yet I was still charged. I paid $1300 to have a specific issue repaired and asked the shop to drive the car on the expressway to see if the shaking issue was still there. They explained that they would do so, but when I left the shop and got the car up to 60 Mph, it began shaking violently. Basically, everything was repaired with the exception of what I took the car in for. So now I'm out of $1300 and left with a car that I can't even drive. I'm afraid to take the car back to the shop and tell them that they didn't fix it because they will likely avoid the key issues and then charge me storage fees if I'm unable to pick the car up the second that they are done working on it. The worst part of it all is that I don't have the money to get the car repaired now because I pretty much donated it to Lara Auto, and in return, they left me with a car that I'm unable to drive. I'll have to take a loss on this one but in the meantime, I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau, and letting all of my friends who are currently using this shop to find a new location. I recommended countless people to them over the years, many of which still use their services. It's sad how a few new employees can ruin something excellent. read more

Took my vehicle for an estimate. Needed suspension work. Left the shop with a $5K estimate. No thanks.

I was glad they were able to diagnose and fix the issue I was having with my car. I explained that my brake pedal was feeling spongy and it might need the brake system bled. He informed me that was not the issue and told me the front caliber pins were frozen and needed to be able to move back and forth in order for the brakes to work properly. They lubed freed the pins. Next, I was back in business feeling safe on the roadway again. Thank you for the honesty and fast service. read more

Anyone knows that dealing with a mechanic can be nerve wrecking. So when you find you a good one, do everything to keep them. No one wants to feel like they are going to get ripped off and this is one of the places I trust ALOT. I had my car serviced for the 1st time here over a year ago when it kept cutting off while driving. The 1st location I took it to told me it was a leak that could be plugged and charged me for it. Needless to say less than 2 hours later, the issue resurfaced. Took it back and then I was told it was my fuel pump. At that point I felt like they were either just guessing or trying to charge me for unnecessary repairs. So I was referred to Lara by my uncle and had my car towed over there. Salvadore (mechanic) has been working on my aunts and uncle's cars for a few years. I had the car dropped off while I went to work and a couple of hours later they called me and told me the issue was nothing but an ignition switch that cost roughly $100 w/ labor. Said it would be ready in a hour if I wanted. When I got there, they pointed out several other issues that may want to get looked at but weren't imperative to fix at the time. Knowing how auto shops and mechanics all try to get over, I found that refreshing they didn't try to get me to fix something that didn't need to be fixed. If this place wasn't so far from where I live it would get all of my service. A little back story, I have a 2002 Ford Explorer XLT. I am from the north side of Chicago and had to make a trip to Midway airport. When I got there, my car started making some weird noises. So I need to find an auto shop nearby fairly late in the afternoon. Everyone was closed except Lara's. I got there a half hour before they closed, but the awesome guys at Lara's took my car in and gave it a quick look over and their best guess at the problem. They gave me their opinion and said they can hold it over night and do a more thorough look over in the morning. So I did. Now, everyone knows Exploders have a long history of problems, which mine was no exception. Because of this, the guys could have blamed the noise on one of many problems and had me pay them to fix it. Which is why I was ecstatic when they told me the only problem was one of my tires was the wrong size. So I went to a tire place, replaced the tire, and it fixed the problem. Now the best part, LARA'S DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING! Having them hold my car overnight would have cost me at any other place in the city. And because they didn't actually do any work on my car, they didn't charge for it. They're a very honest and carrying bunch. I would highly recommend this shop to everyone in the area. read more

Tony and the crew did a great job on my GMC Envoy XL. Their attention to detail was great. It was ready before the time they promised it would be (and actually stayed late for me). Very honest and trustworthy. I was purchasing a used vehicle on Craig's list, and wanted them to do a pre-purchase inspection on the vehicle before I gave the seller the money. They showed me exactly what issues there were (minor) and replaced the AC compressor (major) which the seller paid for. I actually completed the purchase transaction in the shop which worked out well. The experience was great. read more

I have no reason to lie they just read off the machine if your check engine light is on instead of actually riding your car and looking under the hood I have spent so much money with them just for my check engine light to come back on and them telling me to bring it back in and paying more money my car is currently there and have been there since the 8th originally said it would be only 7 days the only time they called me for a update was to tell me the timing belt tool they needed broke and they are keeping my car for the weekend I swear this place will never get another penny out of me first they told me it was my spark plug and coils got those fixed my check engine light came on again and they told me to bring it back and finally oh it's your head gasket ! And that's 2100 after I just paid 300 for my sparks and coils I will never every come here again please save a trip and go somewhere else read more

Not only did they take me in last minute, they only charged me $40.00 for labor and even changed my light bulbs for free! Stranded on side of highway after getting a jump from from Custom Roadside Care who was awesome BTW. My care lost power and had to call again, this time for a tow. But the guy who came jumped wanted to jump my car for $20 cash, it started right up but when I told him it lost power he insisted my battery was fine and refused to tow me. I had to drive 34. Miles at 40mph with my hazards on the entire way. That guy should be fired. He left a woman stranded on the side of a highway!! read more

Went to Pep Boys before coming here because my rear brake and turn signal lights were out. Pep Boys wanted to charge $90 to "diagnose" the problem first. Hey, it's either bulbs or fuses...not rocket science. Left there and saw Lara's on Yelp and read the great reviews and decided to give them a try. Front desk said they'd replace the bulbs first as that was the likely issue. If not, they would let me know before running an electrical diagnostic. Turns out, just needed bulbs. Super cheap and FAST fix at a quarter of the cost a diagnostic at Pep Boys would've cost me. Friendly, fast, and economical. I trust them and will return for any future automotive repairs. read more

We will NEVER go back. Brought in truck for repair. Didn't do it right first time. Brought back, made it worse. Ended up having accident due to THEIR carelessness. Will not take responsibility for their negligence. Long time customer and they did make mistakes before, but we let them go after they made those right, such as loose bolts, loose caps, etc. This time was much worse and they refuse to take responsibility.
