This is a Mexican Spanish fusion restaurant. The food is outstanding! I wish more people would try their food. There were so many different options but it's not another Mexican food restaurant. They have enchiladas but they have so much more Everything we ate was delicious and we will definitely go back. If Mexican food sounds good and you'd like to try some Spanish food as well, this restaurant is a gem. This is the first time trying a Mexican/Spanish fusion restaurant in KC and we're happy we did. Pros: menu is amazing, flavors were fantastic and cannot rave enough about the food. Cons: the concrete floor makes it so loud in there the acoustics are terrible. It wasn't even full and we could barely hear each other and there was only four people total talking. Also, we could barely hear the server while he was a great server himself we could not hear him, and they were completely understaffed. Our meals came out much later than they should have for the amount of people and our fourth person got their meal about 10 minutes later. While the manager or chef made it right by taking off the entrée and providing us bubbles, I am worried this place will not make it due to the service issues and the aesthetics inside which make it unbearable to hear. LaPeZ Mod Mex understood the assignment for KC Restaurant Week... and absolutely crushed it. We stopped in on a total spur-of-the-moment dinner plan and decided to try their 4-course Restaurant Week menu. Best impulsive decision we have made in a while. Yes, some may say expensive but we said well worth it for date night and the selections! My husband and I wisely chose different dishes so we could maximize tasting opportunities (teamwork works for dates). Every. Single. Thing. was delicious! Portions were smaller for but wait... First course: black bean soup and house salad--and let me just say, that dressing deserves a warning label because it is killer. And maybe it is because I usually don't care for a vinaigrette but OH MY this one works! Second course: chicken taquitos and blue crab tostaditas. I could have happily ordered a full entrée of either and called it a day. Possibly a week. Third course: short ribs (very good, internet reviews were correct)... but my husband's asada stole the show. The flavor?? Unreal. I regret not ordering it myself, but also thankful I got to steal bites. Dessert: we did the only reasonable thing and ordered both--horchata tres leches and churro cheesecake. No notes. Zero regrets. Pants slightly tighter. We actually had to get boxes to take desserts home! Fantastic service, incredible food, and a Restaurant Week menu that made us feel like we won the dining lottery. Margs were great and everything else was just okay. To start out, we ordered the chips & salsa. Beware that the salsa is very spicy! The waiter warned us about this. We ordered the Steak Tampiquena and the Baja enchiladas for dinner. Everything tasted just okay and not the most fresh. There were only 3 tables at the restaurant so maybe it was because it was a slow night? Not sure, but we likely will not be back. We also ordered the tres leches and it legitimately tasted like store-bought angelfood cake with cream poured over it right before it came out. read more

I liked the vibe of this restaurant in Park Place. I went on a Wednesday evening and it wasn't very busy. The service was average as the food took some time to come out. I appreciated that they offered a free bubbles drink given the delay. Our table ordered chicken enchilada, mahi, and carne asada and unfortunately we were underwhelmed. Given their location and type of food, I'd love to see them succeed but the quality needs to increase. read more

This spot opened up recently in Leawood and has added a nice touch to the park place community. The staff were kind and helpful with the menu and offering their drink specials. The margarita was tasty and artisanal. To start, I got the guac and liked how different it was. It had blue cheese and bacon bits on top which was different than anything I have had but the contrast in flavors paired well. For my main I got the short rib barbacoa which was flavorful with the polenta below it! This is a great spot to go to for after work happy hour or to gather with a group for dinners with the large seating. read more

This a beautiful restaurant in Park Place which we love. I ordered a beer and my fiancé ordered the margarita which was just ok. Our food was very good, but it took a very long time to come out. There was a mixup on table numbers with both our drinks and our food. A manager came by to apologize and said it was because staff was new. They are a newer restaurant so I'm sure they are still figuring everything out. I would probably give it another try. The portion sizes aren't very large so don't come too hungry or plan to order some appetizers. read more

We went to Lapez mod mex for restaurant week. We have done restaurant week the last 10 years and this has been the best food I have had. Everything i had was so tasty. Wow! We had a few cocktails along with the oysters, a salad and tortilla soup. I scarfed down the oysters so fast I didn't even think to get a picture! They were delicious! The tortilla soup had such vibrant flavor as did the salad. I cannot wait to come back to try more off the menu. LaPez really surprised me. Authentic dishes with a modern twist, so much flavor especially the mole. Not many places can do mole correctly, this is it. This is our favorite new restaurant. They only opened three days ago but you wouldn't know that from the quality of the service, food and drinks. The inside has been completely redone and it has a great vibe. I had the carne asada with chili smashed potatoes and street corn. My wife had the tampiquena, grilled steak with shrimp and crab enchiladas. It was a great and unique take on surf and turf. Both dishes were seasoned perfectly and were great value for the price. Just Wow..... I really only care about the food, but was amazed by the staff. Normally these days I am happy if they just manage to get most of my order right and I only have to ask for the check three times. This was a level of professionalism and deticaiton that you would generally only see at The Capital Grill or Eddy V's. Laura and Laura were completely on top of everything all night lone! The first appetizer was so amazing I ordered two others and then still had to try an entrye. I was full to the point of nearly being sick and it was completely worth it! The food was artfully presented and delicious. I ordered the chicken mole enchiladas. Some others at the table thought the food was too spicy. Spice lovers rejoice. While the enchiladas had some heat, didn't think it was too spicy although the jicama salad cooled off the heat some. Visited this restaurant for Saturday happy hour and was genuinely blown away. We ordered the crab fritters, steak tacos, chips and salsa, margaritas, and finished with the crème brûlée which deserves its own shout-out. I usually find crème brûlée pretty boring, but not their version. It was exceptional. This is the kind of Mexican restaurant I've been waiting for in Kansas City. The flavors were easily some of the best I've had anywhere in the city, and the creativity of the menu exceeded my expectations. Now, the margaritas. Every one is freshly made and shaken with house-made juices boozy enough (in the best way) and not overly sweet. Truly the perfect balance. I also want to mention our server. Ordered drinks and happy hour food, and then wanted to share the lobster tacos. Kitchen could have accommodated three people by adding a taco to a ridiculously small plate, but did not. Cocktails $15. Margarita from a sour "mix." Add the extra taco, owners. Buy yourself the good reviews and tips for your servers...not to mention the loyal customers and suggestion sharing. That third taco for the third happy hour attendee would have WAY made up for whatever it cost you. But now, we will not return, and we will spread the word. I was so excited to get a Mexican place in our area and unfortunately we were SO disappointed. I ordered the Lobster tacos, took one bite, and they were absolutely disgusting. Tried to take off the pineapple to see if that helped, nope. Had my husband try them and he said the same thing. Inedible. Couldnt even force ourselves to eat any more. They asked us about it and we said we didn't like it but they still charged us. I guess I figured at a new restaurant trying to get off the ground, if a customer is clearly unhappy and hated what they got, and didn't even eat it, don't charge them for it. My husbands dish was "okay", the chips and salsa (that you have to pay for) were okay. The service was fine, and everyone was nice. But we paid over $70 for chips, 2 tacos we didn't eat, and one meal, and left very disappointed. Unfortunate. read more

From the bartender, to waitress to General Manager, everything was exceptional! The drinks (Sangria, espresso martini and margarita) were handcrafted with a special twist that was supreme. There are a lot of Mexican and Spanish cuisine restaurants yet not like this one! The food was outstanding with every bite. The chile verde salsa, some other salsa I cannot even explain, the queso had a sweetness that was unexpected yet couldn't get enough and the chocolate crème brûlée - OMG! My husband had the lobster taco, I had the short ribs, our friends had the salmon and enchilada and everything was 200% better than expected. The grand opening is next week and I'm certain a table will be hard to get after KC learns about this place! Plus, I'm so happy to see something so delicious be in this space as Park Place is so conveniently located and would love to see it more busy.
