I've been a customer here for some time and have generally had good experiences, which is why this was so disappointing. I recently brought in a few items, and when I picked them up, one sweater honestly did not seem like it had been cleaned at all -- it still smelled dirty and had stains on it. I called on January 13 at around 12:40 pm, not to demand a refund or a redo, but simply to let them know so they could be more careful in the future. The person who answered the phone handled it very poorly. Instead of listening, she started counting how many times I've been there and pointing out that I'm a "long-term customer," as if that determined whether my feedback mattered. She then offered to re-clean the sweater, but I had already said that wasn't what I was looking for -- I just wanted to share feedback so it wouldn't happen again. The conversation felt dismissive and oddly defensive, and it made me feel like my concern wasn't taken seriously. For a business that depends on repeat customers, the way feedback is received matters just as much as the service itself. Took my new suit supply wool silk linen suit here and received a ruined suit with broken buttons. The suit had been damaged, potentially through incorrect washing methods, excessive heat, or rough handling, causing wrinkles, shrinkage, discoloration, snags due to the delicate nature of both silk and linen fibers. The mother of pearl buttons were all broken on the jacket and pants. It looked like they just threw the suit in a heavy duty washing machine with the hottest setting. I can't believe the damage was not noticed by the employees before returning back to me. Maybe they thought if they pretended it wasn't there then it might go away. I learned a $1,000 lesson. Learn from me and don't bring your suits if they're made from delicate fabric. read more

I feel terrible to give a bad review because this place was recommended to me by a friend. I have a pottery barn king size quilt and three euro shams. It's machine washable, but was just a bit too big for my washer, so I figured I'd go and try out Lapels. I got there, and dropped it off, and honestly it's partially my fault for not explicitly asking what the total would be..... however, I made the assumption that machine washing four items probably wouldn't cost more than $30. Boy...... was I ever horrified to pay over $80! I could have purchased another bedding set (not pottery barn of course...) Anyway, I don't really like confrontation and it wasn't the employees fault so I paid and left but the more I think about it, the madder I get. That's just an outrageous price... I can't figure a way to justify it at all. And oddly, it didn't even really smell "clean" . I won't be taking my business there in the future and I really can't recommend it to others. read more

I would not recommend Lapels. I took my wedding dress here to get dry cleaned in a nice expensive garment bag that came from the shop I bought my dress at. When I got the dress back it was just in a plastic dry cleaners bag. I asked where my garment bag was and after giving me the run around they told me the bag was lost and there was "absolutely no way of retrieving it." They charged me $300 for the dress cleaning and refused any partial refund or anything for losing the bag. Very upsetting / disappointed as there was sentimental value attached to the item. Do yourself a favor and take your dress elsewhere. read more

Dropped off son slacks, prior to giving them the slacks I mention a few stain spots. Pick up day I pointed out the stains were still there. Ok they will redo the dry cleaning. I specifically ask if it was a problem to get the stain out? The girl stated, should not be an issue. Picked up second time the stains are still there. Very frustrating if you told me that it should not be a problem. I would of taken my dry cleaning else where if it is a problem. Actually I will be taking dry clean elsewhere from now on. read more

Update: I just got off the phone with Anita and I think I'm more annoyed than if she had not reached out. She was rude in tone, almost immediately. I called the day prior to speak to her and she acted like I was harassing her business, right off the bat. Then, she claimed that I don't show up in her system as a long term customer. When I reminded her who I was (the guy who came with his dogs walking by welcoming her as the new owner when she took over for the husband and wife who retired) she said, "I see 500 customers a month and I couldn't possibly remember them all". She tried to claim I have not been a long term customer, but upon review of my email receipts from Lapels, I have five receipts in 2018 and one in 2019. Prior to her ownership, I would take items in more frequently because I had a different job that required nicer clothes. But the family that owned it before was nice and did alterations for me all the time. Anita's employee, Taffy, also altered a velvet sport coat in 2018 and did a great job. Taffy was so friendly too. I told everyone about her work at Lapels. Yet Anita states I have not been in her store other than this one time last Friday? Wrong. She refunded me $17 over the phone, which was very generous of her, but she was so rude and her tone was just aggressive and condescending. She acted as if I was unreasonable for being upset about not having their own recently issued coupon honored. How dare I bother her over $3. She was much more concerned over the reviews than making things right. Prior review I been going to this dry cleaners for almost 20 years, before the new ownership. It was a wonderful experience and they knew me by name. But all of that was flushed down the toilet today and over $3! It's the principle of the matter and that's why I'm so mad. My husband dropped off two of my sweaters to be cleaned last week. I told him to tell them that I am using one of their coupons that I got via email for 20% off sweater dry cleaning. They told him that I "needed to bring in the coupon when I come in next time." So, his interpretation was that I need to bring it the coupon in when I pick up and pay. Today, I went in to pick up and pay the $17.50 and they flat out refused to honor THEIR OWN COUPON because it wasn't presented at the time of drop off of the items. In their defense, in very small print on the email it states that you must present the coupon at time of service. My husband clearly stated to the employee that I would be redeeming their most recently emailed coupon for the two sweaters, but he didn't have it with him. He was doing me a favor by dropping off my items because I could not do so myself that day. This could have easily been noted and honored but nope, the employee refused. I looked hee straight in the eyes and said, "Losing a 20 year customer who spends hundreds of dollars a year here on dry cleaning and alterations is acceptable to you over $3?!?!" She replied, "I can't do anything about it." No apologies. Nothing. Twenty years down the toilet because she refused to honor THEIR OWN 20% OFF sweater dry cleaning coupon. There is no leeway for a loyal customer whose face they see all of the time?!?! Absolutely ridiculous. What has happened to small business loyalty and businesses who value customers? Where has it gone? Am I just getting old? Am I old fashioned? I'm only 42 and I remember the days when you could go pick up your dry cleaning one week and pay your bill at the end of the month. read more

We moved here last year and had to find a new cleaner for work clothes. It's been about a year now and the service has been consistent and prompt. I had one minor issue in that whole year and Anita reached out to me right away to address it professionally. I hope most reviewers understand that machinery used in this line of business is prone to issues just like any other hardware you rely on in your life. Everyone here is so super nice! I love they email you or text you when your order is ready and your Recieots. They did a great job of getting the mole sauce out of my hubby's suit the first time I visited. They are so helpful with suggestions etc. I cannot find fault with them at all. They are also following strictly to safety rules due to the pandemic. Wearing masks ... limiting number of customers in tiny store, etc. I was so happy to find such a close by and great place so quickly upon moving to town. read more

*ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE SERVICE* - BOTH customer service and in the laundry service they provide. I WOULD GIVE negative STARS IF I COULD!! I typically don't go to dry cleaners and machine wash or hand wash clothes myself, but I decided to give Lapels a try. I had dropped off approximately 7 items (very expensive items that cannot be replaced)- HENCE why I took it to dry cleaners (you would imagine dry cleaners to be reliable because they have many customers a day and create business through dry cleaning clothes). At the time of drop off, I had notified staff of a stain on the back sleeves of a jacket. I had asked her if they would be able to get the stain out and the woman had stated that they would try their best. I followed up by asking if -any any way-their spot treatment would DAMAGE the jacket and she had said "NO" - which is why I continued with their service. When coming back to pick up my pick up my damaged items, the lady was refusing to give my items back, claimed one of my items is defected, and was refusing to refund the damaged item. Considering I was speaking to the owner, she handles the situation very unprofessionally and needs to train staff better to provide customers with appropriate and accurate information regarding their service. After getting other enforcement involved, I STILL don't have my items back. read more

So, this is an update to the 1-starreview that was given originally to the cleaners who sold to Lapels. As promised when I brought in another item (the amazing, huge quilt my mother-in-law made for us, that I wanted cleaned before I put it back on our bed for fall and winter), I was given 10% off by the owner. When I handed it over, she did let me know that since it was household item, not clothing, it may take up to two weeks to be done. That was fine with me. They are very thorough with their intake and let me know that I'd get an email when my item was ready for pickup. She went over all of the different services they offer- wedding dress preservation, even! As well as leather and suede services and alterations! I have to tell you, I was completely surprised to receive and email the following day that I could pick up my quilt (showing the amount due as well)! Even though they are open on the weekend, I went in on Monday and picked it up and their friendly counter person brought it out for me, packaged very nicely! I joked that I would never be able to bet it back into the packaging again... like you can't refold a map, for all of us oldsters out there who remember what a map is, instead of Google. I'm impressed with the service and will definitely bring them more of my business... read more

I had two rush jobs for comforters ahead of company coming to town (my issue with time management and not their problem), yet they happily accommodated my request for a rush service and even got it done a day earlier. It would been totally ok to say it wasn't doable, but they made it happen! We've also had clothes handled there and everything always comes back to us looking beautiful and fresh. This is by far THE best dry cleaning and now.....laundry service in ALL of Gilroy! I think some of the less than 5 star ratings were for the cleaners that were there BEFORE Lapels, so you should take that into account. I am on the extreme side of OCD, and I have never had any issue, problem or complaint. They definitely know what they are doing, everything comes back looking fantastic! The entire staff is very nice, professional and accommodating. AND... FREE pick up and delivery! For us, that is a huge timesaver and a treat as our house is quite busy with humans and pets. This is the second time I have found a cleaners in my whole life where the cleaning solution is so overwhelming I have to take them elsewhere to be recleaned. I went to a wedding and didn't have time to take the dress I was wearing to another cleaners and was told I looked great but smelled like chemicals. It was embarrassing so owner may want to consider changing solutions because I talked to others who are customers there and they have the same complaint. I think that a lot of the negative reviews for this place are related to the previous owners. I found the new owners to be exceedingly pleasant and reasonably quick (anything less than a week with most dry clearers is pretty quick in my experience). Price seemed to be in line for the number of articles that I had cleaned. I've given Lapels four stars for my first encounter. I will definitely return. Hands-down my favorite dry cleaning service in Gilroy. They have been able to get out stains from work clothes that no matter how hard I have tried, I haven't been able to work their magic. Even throughout Covid, their professionalism and demeanor has been above expectations. I have been going there for quite some time and always appreciate the quick service both with the dry cleaning as well as this sewing and fixing of torn clothes and missing zippers. We really wanted to like this place, but it is overpriced and consistently sloppy. We went here a few times because its close to home. The first time wasn't spectacular, but it was fine. The second time, clothes came back wrinkled and just as dirty as when they were dropped off. They looked as if they simply put them on a hanger and handed them back (with a surprisingly hefty charge). When we returned the items to have them re-cleaned, it was then returned to us with a DIFFERENT stain. In other words, first they didn't clean or press the shirt, then they cleaned it but left their own stain. I'm guessing this is because we requested same-day service, which they claim to offer as long as you drop it off before 9:30 AM... (If you can't fit it in that day, please don't accept the request). On a third occasion, my husband dropped off his uniform. Later, when he went to put his uniform on, he found that they had given him someone else's pants! Too late to correct the mistake, he went to work and risked reprimand for a sloppy uniform due to Lapels' inattention to details as basic as which pants belong to which customer. All of that, compounded with customer service that is friendly only about half the time (one person in particular seems openly annoyed every time we drop something off with her), and prices that are 50% higher than ANY dry cleaner we have ever used, adds up to a big fat "no thank you" from this family. read more

This cleaners is under a new management. The new name is Lapels. The owners name is Anita. I called on a Friday at 12 o'clock. I asked if they had same day services. Anita said "Yes". The do same day services when clothing is dropped off in the morning. However, Anita mentioned if I could get in by 12:30 she could get my clothes done the same day. I made it by 12:15, Anita greeted me and introduced herself. Made me feel welcomed. Now I found a new cleaners where they do same day services and I don't have to drive to San Jose. The people here are so nice so it broke my heart that they do terrible work. Long story short - they ruined my silk skirt and had to redo a pair if pants three times - one of which still never got the stain removed and was starched to death (ended up getting the stain out myself by hand washing the item). Their customer service however is great and they refunded me for the skirt no problem. Sadly wont be returning. Nice people though, just cannot dry clean. read more

I brought polished cotton & cotton/linen curtain panels to Lapels. They turned out like new with a beautiful finish. Both curtains said you could machine wash, but from experience I know the finish would be lost & they would not have the same look. Definitely recommend Lapels. read more
