As one can imagine they are on a very limited income and need help when they can get it. I called and spoke with Dale Kaufman and he was very condescending and insisting on a prohibitive $100 fee just to come out to the house. As the son I was willing to pay the extortion-oops I mean estimate fee even though I wasn't happy with it. Dale hung up on me. Completely unprofessional and the fact that they are willing to gouge vulnerable senior citizens is really quite alarming. Yeah... they MAY be able to give you a nice remodeled kitchen but at what cost? Negative karma points here for sure. Shame on them.

Our project was quite ambitious: complete redo of our guest bathroom…read more(new vanity, shower, tile on wall and floors), redo of 2-person master shower, and new kitchen island with installation of induction cooktop and downdraft hood. Ron is without question the best contractor that I have ever worked with. He is detail oriented, a good communicator, VERY knowledgeable (he's been doing this for decades), and very obviously committed to doing a good job and making sure that people are happy with the result. He's also a genuinely nice person to work with. Being a detail-oriented person myself I had lots of questions for him throughout the process. He always took the time to explain things to me and if needed alter how he was doing things to fit our needs. He even took the tine to answer other questions about the house that weren't related to the job. The quality of the renovation depends in large part on the quality of the subcontractors. Ron works with a set group of contractors / companies (plumbers, tile installers, furniture makers, etc.) which he has developed a close relationship over the years. I have consistently been impressed with the quality of their work and they are all genuinely nice/reliable people. It gets tiring over the weeks having strangers in and out of your house and everyone to a person that he works with has been a nice person, obviously committed to their work but also happy to stop and explain exactly what they're doing and why. I think it's a testament to the relationship that Ron has built with these contractors that many of them have told me privately and unbidden how much they respect Ron and enjoy working for him (or in the case of companies to which we have been referred have smiled when we told them who had sent us and told us that we were in good hands). One final note. It is apparently common practice for tile workers to pour off their tailings into people's back yards, despite the fact that this practice is banned by the EPA and illegal in some cities (it is in West Linn where I checked). Given our extensive gardens I balked at this; Ron was surprised that I had an issue with it, but then worked to come up with a workaround that we could all agree on. I'm just putting this in so that if you care about this (it will definitely affect the plants in your yard and also can contaminate the ground water) you can request that whoever you work with develop a different strategy (we let it settle in barrels, poured off the cleanish water into some gravel, and sent the rest of the goop to be disposed of).

Never received the quote so I reached out again but never got an answer from him. We were going to give him our business but after 2-3 weeks of no reply we went with someone else. Glad we did because Paul was going to charge us $1,500-2,300 dollars for a project that ended up costing me $500. Yikes, glad it worked out.

Wow, it's really amazing how bad a contractor can be. What should have been a simple siding job has…read moreturned into a yearlong ordeal with neither HP Lion or Lowes accepting responsibility for the poor job they have done and which they claim meets their satisfaction. Additionally, I've not been able to find any certification listing from James Hardie with their informaiton so I'm suspect about the warranty on my product. The original work left with very poor trim, many nails not being set in fully and both of my hose bibs unusable, which they did actually fix. I still have the plumbing for my outdoor sink unattached, an electrical box for the AC just dangling off the side of the house and a vent placed on the wall that doesn't attach to anything. They claim this is acceptable work from their end and won't even come back out to look a the damage they have left behind. I would not suggest anyone hire this company to hang a picture, much less attempt to do actual work on your investment.
