I'm giving this salon a five star review based on one person. Kate. I have been going to Kate for just over a year and she's spectacular. I have very long thick hair that's difficult for most stylists to manage, let alone actually give me what I want... I came to Kate with dark brown/burgundy hair that needed a a complete over haul. I had received a bad cut in another state and wanted to change the color to look like Jlo with the highlights and lowlights. Kate took her time with me and explained the process to achieve what I was looking for. She corrected the awful haircut and gave me something perfect for my type of hair. She excelled with the color in every way being cautious not to damage my hair. Kate is a truly amazing artist and I would not trust my hair to anyone else. I finally found a place that provides good service and quality color/cuts. Chrissy is amazing for color and Ilya is my go to for hair cuts/styling. I've actually followed Ilya from one salon to Lanphier. Although it's on the pricey side, I think it's definitely worth it. They pay attention to details and are customer/service oriented. Overall, it's a pretty pleasant experience but the best part is I always leave very satisfied. read more

As many other reviews have said - gift cards here are a scam. My brother purchased a gift card as a Mother's Day gift for my sister in law... They take your money quickly when you purchase a gift card, but blame "encryption" and "security" as rationale should you misplace it. They are condescending and unwilling to work with you, and will go so far as imply your husbands "mistress" has already used said gift card. I think their responses to customers say enough, but trust me - save your money... Edit to respond: coming from a family that owns a small business, this is a pretty blatant example of poor bookkeeping, and even more so a way to scam customers out of money. You can very easily track who purchases a gift card, but choose not to. Maybe you can take the money you steal from your customers and invest in a better method of tracking... but then again, how else could you make money if not by stealing from customers? Oh, and no apologies needed - I chose to get involved when I heard how HORRIBLE your business practices are. It's clear you couldn't care less about customers, beyond taking their money. If you choose to treat gift cards as "cash", perhaps you should explain that upon purchase. The fact that you don't even further proves that you choose to STEAL from your customers. Love the condescending customer service too, as a business owner you should be embarrassed as a business owner bantering on Yelp when there are SEVERAL reviews highlighting a problematic policy - again, if you weren't looking to steal from customers, you'd do something about it beyond type condescending responses online. read more

I am really disappointed with the ownership and experience at Lanphier. I made the honest mistake of throwing away a significant gift card from my friend, and management has refused to do anything about it, although the transaction was easily found in their accounting system. Management was rude and non-responsive. Lanphier will keep the money from my friend, while never performing a service. Went for massages today and it was alright, was kind of expecting a lot more. The place is stunning and very professional, covid prevention procedures are put in place which is great. The massage was okay, it wasn't ground breaking like I was expecting it. I didn't get to choose the oil I wanted, and was also given the wrong add on treatment (I didn't know if I had made the mistake or not, so I didn't say anything) The massage was good, but not ground breaking for me anyways. Very disappointed that my gift certificate was not accepted. Admittedly it was purchased years ago, however, with the pandemic, it should be understandable that there would be a delay in using it. They had just stopped accepting older gift cards a week before I came and they gave me a hard "no". If they were focused on customer service I would have thought they could have just acknowledged there was over $100 paid and perhaps at least given me 50% credit or even a discount off a future massage/service. After Red Door in Darien closed, I was so happy to find out that my favorite esthetician was still in town at Lanphier. I made an appointment and it goes without saying that my facial was fantastic - as always. The rest of the experience was a huge disappointment. The spa itself is gorgeous - bright, spacious and full of amazing products - but the front desk staff could not have made me feel less welcome. Perhaps if my weekend morning attire was more yoga pants and Goyard tote and less sweatpants and tattered paperback, I would have been given a bit more attention and respect? After being asked coolly, "can we help you?", one of the beautiful robots ushered me unceremoniously to the small waiting room and left me there with no direction. Should I change into a robe? Are the lockers available for my bag and phone? She just turned on her five inch heels and murmured "someone will be right with you" as she walked out. And my post-appointment bliss was swiftly shattered upon checkout. After asking to add a 20% tip on a $120 service, the most heavily botoxed robot shoved $43 across the counter and told me to sign a $171.44 receipt - all without eye contact. When I expressed my confusion over her total, she seemed bothered. I walked out with the extra cash because I wasn't interested in spending one more second in front of the front desk jury - who had obviously determined that I was a total peasant from the moment I walked in. Maybe I should quit my great corporate job and become a spa front desk coordinator. It's apparently a very prestigious role, does not require any warmth or manners and has the added perk of being able to look down on people. read more

Brought the GF here for Fabulous Lady Day and it was really nice and relaxing. We got the couples massage room and as you can imagine it was all zen and quiet. It's a bit on the pricey side but Kelsey worked her magic all over me and I'm quite pleased despite the price. Also got the GF a facial, but as I didn't receive I can only assume it was great. All in all it's going to run you about $2-300 out the door plus tip etc. Long story short, totally worth it for a relaxing day for me and the GF. Fabulous indeed. read more

I was looking for a place to have my hair done. I had asked around as I'd always gone to New York and so my expectations were high. Some people who have awful hair color will tell you "You have to go to X as he is amazing" seriously, have they even looked in a mirror? I went to Lanphier and was deeply disappointed. This 'colorist' who calls himself an artist and wears a black hat and silver jewelry did such a horrible color job that I went back a few days later to see what could be done. Was it my hair? was it my expectations? He said it looked fine and I should just buy a bottle of purple shampoo- at the desk. Hmmm? I then met a woman yesterday who works with me and she had gone to the same colorist. Her cut was nice though she said Illya did it but it felt too thinned out. But the color- awful, terrible. It's like dryed out bleached blonde with dark roots- Are dark roots in or something? Plus all along the midline of the sides and back of hair is this orange sort of bleed out and it looks so bad- she paid several hundred dollars for the color and the cut together- She only makes $20 @ hour so had to save up for this. I was sorry for her but elated that it wasn't just me. How can a colorist allow someone to leave their chair with botched up hair and how can a stylist cutting ones hair, see someone after that and not mention how awful the color job is? Please if you are a colorist and have been doing it for years and years- maybe you are complacent. Maybe your boss needs to recommend some basic classes for you- maybe you think you are an artist but someone who cares about you and the salon should speak up and say "You are doing a poor job" An aside about Lanphier- their showers are not clean and their towels smell badly. read more

Murial did an good job with my bayalage but my haircut is really bad. I made the appt last minute and my mom treated me to this appt. I am from out of state and was expecting an amazingly professional service for the price and area. I didn't feel very welcomed when I came in. I had to say hi before they did and it was like I was breaking up their conversation. I had a long lob so my hair was longer in the front. I just wanted it cleaned up and just a straight cut through. Samantha cut several inches off the front of my hair and now it's short in the front long in the back and will take a year to grow back out to where it was. Literally said I didn't want any length removed just a clean up. I'm really sad. My mom loves this place and I think my experience was great but the haircut can make or break it and this broke it. An absolutely horrendous experience with the colorist, whose initial begins with the letter M. Ruined my hair, owner was unsympathetic and offered her global colorist to correct it. Now my hair is brittle and dry, and still not the color it is supposed to be. I need to chop it short and wait for new growth. Oh did I mention the dryer I was put under went on fire and the fire department had to come to the salon? The owner took NO responsibility. This salon is OVERPRICED for its services. $225 for highlights that leaves your hair a burnt orange rather than the blonde highlights that I wanted is OUTRAGEOUS. I will be going back to NYC for highlights where I know it is a requirement for colorists to continuously attend classes to enhance skills. read more

I had a wonderful facial from Jackie. I would have given five stars but the owners need to have motorized tables so people who can't stand can transfer onto the table easily. The staff was very accommodating and helpful in getting me on the table but it would have been a much better experience for everyone if the table were able to be lowered to wheelchair height. Jackie mentioned that some of the massage rooms have these tables but not the skin care rooms. Along with the facial Jackie gave a relaxing massage. I was completely de-stressed by the time I left. The spa has ample parking and automatic door openers. The waiting area is bright and airy. If you are getting a spa treatment there is a private waiting room you may want to ask to wait in while you are waiting for your appointment. That room is more meditative. read more

I recommend this place for mani/pedis because the staff is very friendly and lovely. DONT go for highlights or dye. I write this with my hair in a state of a mess. The woman did not listen to what I wanted and dyed my hair almost black when I asked for low lights to my brown hair. I have to go back and I have requested someone else to give me new high lights to salvage my hair. A bad haircut is one thing, it can grow out.. but a bad dye job? When I first moved to town, this was a great spot. The staff was always very pleasant and very accommodating. The last few times I have gone, the staff has become much more arrogant, not accommodating at all and the services are sub-par. I am a working mom and I was 10 minutes late (at the most) to my appointment and they ended up re-scheduling me with someone else. 10 minutes late! I actually left my last spa place in Stamford for the fact that they became less boutiquey and more corporate so I was so happy to find a spot in town. Furthermore, several of their top people have left and gone to other places so I can only assume there are some management issues. Whoever is managing this place needs to work on the staff being top notch, providing excellent service and bending over backwards for customers. My husband treated me to a surprise spa day at Lanphier and I couldn't have been happier! The day included massage, facial, mani, pedi, hair and makeup appointments and even included lunch with champagne (grilled chicken salad with seemingly homemade croutons). Each of the aestheticians I encountered were such professionals and really aimed to make my day the best it could be, despite a freak incident where the spa's hot water system was malfunctioning that day. The only drawback (for my husband): I think I'm now addicted to the spa, and I foresee many more expensive days ahead at Lanphier! read more
