Extremely dissatisfied and disappointed with my very expensive experience here. I had extensions put on six days before a business trip to London with my husband. During a client dinner, my husband whispered to me to go into the rest room because the hair on my right side was falling off!! The remainder of the extensions were easily removed when we arrived back to our hotel. The insensitive, talkative manager, Patricia agreed to refund the cost of the service, but not the hair. I feel this is a major rip-off and I shouldn't have to pay for a defective product especially if it cannot be used again. I agree with Mary D. about the downright arrogance of the staff! I had a facial today at Lanphier Day Spa, which turned out to be great. It did not start out that way. There is an event being held tomorrow and the room above me was in the process of being set up for that event. It was very noisy in my treatment room...a little like being in a wooden box with people in clogs walking on top of it. Not a relaxing spa experience. I complained and my aesthetician went out to ask them to stop. It didn't. She went out and asked again. It still didn't stop. I finally said I'm leaving, unless we move to a different room. Sounds aggressive, but I was getting a headache from the noise and the jarring effect of a sudden bang after a moment of quiet. We were moved to a different room and I had a wonderful facial. The spa charged me for a lower priced facial, gave me a certificate for $25 to use next time and the aesthetician gave me some extra something. I think they made it right, although part of me resents being put in the position of being a complainer. I had a great facial. If I go again, I will make certain I am not going to be in a treatment room that is directly beneath their shop. There is no soundproofing and one person walking around there in heels will wake you up from your relaxed state. read more

I moved from out of state and had a very strong allegiance to my old stylist, so I was frustrated to have to find a new stylist to do my hair that I could trust. I read the Yelp reviews on Lanphier and saw how positive they were so I decided to give it a chance. I had Sassin do my color and Sophie shampooed my hair and applied the glaze. I also met the owner and I am thrilled to report that each of them were simply delightful! I will be going back regularly to have my hair cut and dyed! The salon staff were VERY professional and not pretentious at all (my experience at higher end salons has been just that-very stuffy!). Kyle is amazing! I've been to him about 5 times now over the past couple of years and he never disappoints. I used to struggle with my thick, semi-wavy/ hair and he continues to give me haircuts that help me to maintain my low maintenance lifestyle. He really listens and works with you to create a cut and style that works. I love this spa, but I got my hair done on Saturday for a wedding with LAUREN and I would NOT recommend her. She had her own idea of how she wanted my hairstyle to look after countless times I expressed and showed her what I was looking for. Unfortunately she just didn't seem to know so much what she was doing or what was necessary to hold my hair. I've been going to Murial for 12 years. Wouldn't go to anyone else! She's done both color and highlights. Extremely talented, plus lovely (and French!) I've gone lighter, darker, thin highlights, blocky ones, whatever I ask of her she's able to do perfectly. Can make me summer blonde, then switch it gently warmer and darker for fall. Worst ever. I tried this "spa". The massages cannot be relaxing because you hear every word through the thin walls. Overall the massage was not good. Dressing room is odd and cramped. I also tried a manicure and pedicure twice. Just more disappointment. There are too many options I out there for such poor service. Rude front desk, 2 hours for a manicure pedicure. I just moved here and found lanphier on the Internet. The woman that cut my hair smelled like cigarettes and didn't talk to me the entire haircut. She didn't even thank me or try to sell me products. She just said if I wanted to maintain the cut to come back in six weeks. Additionally I brought a picture and the cut I received from Natalie did not resemble the picture. Rene colors my hair and he's an amazing colorist and just an awesome guy! Rene is a true artist and put so much thought into the color and process. He is always so thoughtful and he makes what used to be a dreaded appt (having hair colored) so much more fun. I hate to be the first to complain about this establishment but unfortunately my experience here was not as pleasant as the other comments made. The new atmosphere, although very pretty is not as serene as described. The two girls working at the front desk both had a serious attitude and i didn't feel i was getting paid any attention to. Both girls seemed to be busy talking amongst themselves. The shampoo i received was wonderful but i unfortunately cant say the same for my haircut. My stylist (whom i will not name) was rude and paid no attention to the style i was asking for. I absolutely hated my haircut and though i was sure she could see the dissatisfaction in my face she paid no attention to ask if she could do something to help. I did not want to make a seen and so when leaving I just asked if i could speak to the manager in charge. I was informed she was getting her own hair done. Can you imagine? The manager of a "high end" salon is too busy having her own hair done to talk to a dissatisfied costumer. Buyer beware. My husband bought a gift certificate to be used at the North Haven spa and it closed four weeks later with no warning. Some one had to know that it would be closing. I was told that there had been a refund period which I (supposedly) missed. I know a couple of other people who were also unaware of the refund period and were only told ( even the day it was closing) that to redeem any certificate one would have to go to Darien. No mention of a refund. I was repeatedly told that I could go to Darien to redeem the certificate which was not only inconvenient ( no I do not want to drive an hour each way) but when bought was clearly not where I was going to go for a massage. I woke up a few months ago and just couldn't understand what had happened to my skin. It was dull and because I'm so fair, it's also sun damaged and freckled. I started doing some online research and decided that I wanted to try a "photo facial" treatment. So (switching gears here for a minute... I promise this circles back) I recently decided to go to Lanphier for a massage. My first one in a long time and Francisco had been highly recommended. Oh my buttery muscles! Those hands are magical! Best massage I have had in years! While I was coming out of my trance from Francisco's masterful massage, I chatted with another woman in the ladies lounge. She was putting on her makeup after having a photo facial and Botox treatment from their new doctor on staff! After asking her a dozen plus questions, I decided to book an appointment. The doctor was booked at the time but because it was a Thursday, his hours run later so I got an appointment at 6:30pm - same day. Unfortunately this gave me just enough time to get nervous but when I met Dr. Herman, my fears were quickly allayed. He was really kind and super patient with all of my questions and concerns. Ok, so (if I'm truthful here) I actually have a lot of sun damage for my age and he didn't even make me feel bad about my years of neglect (although he did make me swear to wear sunscreen). I ended up getting an IPL (photo facial) on my face and chest and then also opted for a little injectable Dysport (it works like Botox only faster). I had read that the pulsed light was painful but he had some technique that made it very tolerable. Honestly, I can't wait to go back! There wasn't really any down time - as I had feared. I had some brown spots that showed up like coffee grounds on my skin but nothing that a little makeup couldn't conceal. Dr. Herman also explained the skin care lines that Lanphier sells. That day I switched to Skinceuticals and after a few weeks, I can really tell the difference! But oh my goodness ... There is a HUGE difference in my skin from the IPL!! The doc said that if I get a couple more treatments, my spots and freckles will be gone! I really cannot believe how clear and creamy my skin already looks! Totally can't say enough good things about Dr. Herman too! I guess I expected the guy to just be about the procedure or the clinical aspect but he really cared about making sure that I was comfortable and that we started off conservatively. He was so gentle!! The Dysport was a breeze! The other thing to mention here is that his prices are good! I thought maybe he would be more pricey because it's a high-end salon but I did a little price comparison before I saw him and he wasn't even charging as high as some other places I had checked into. Of course... This only makes me want to go back and have my hands and arms done! Ah! It might be addictive! You will not be disappointed here. Come for Botox and a massage or whatever makes your skin happy! I loved Lanphier so much that I booked a hair appointment with their colorist/stylist Shawn and when I go back, I may bite the bullet and get Dr. Herman to give me a bikini-line laser hair removal. I recently went in for a platinum bleaching last week and had my hair done by Stacey (She's the best!). Over the last few months, I had been bouncing around to multiple different salons in Stamford attempting to get the right coloring of platinum done and I had almost given up hope until I came here and worked with Stacey. My hair came out the exact color I had wanted. Rather than highlighting my hair like the other locations had done attempting to get me the platinum coloring she immediately suggested a double process and was she right! I highly recommend coming here and especially recommend Stacey. She was extremely knowledgable and it was just an overall excellent experience, after a lot of disappointing ones. read more

Also, my stylists dress was so short that when she bent over to pick up the comb she dropped I saw all her lady parts. I feel like I was rushed through my haircut and my layers are a little short, but my blow-dry looked nice. I don't think my experience was worth the money I spent. I have had my hair styled by the best in the world. I have been living in Darien for a while and usually go to NY to have my hair cut and colored/ highlighted. It is a trek going in there and takes up a day out of my life. I decided to shop locally and asked around.I also looked at other women with my hair type and though no one had a really good cut or color, I decided to go to Lanphier based on some reviews online. I do not like the place. The whole atmosphere from the parking g lot to the 'grand' entrance- down all those stairs. I was introduced to the person doing the color who was supposedly a master colorist and while the method was different to most salons in NY or LA I really wanted it done and so I relaxed and waited for the results. I was not sure what to think as it looked so dark but reserved judgement until next day in the natural lighting. I cried. I looked like an absolute witch-my white skin against the stark almost purple hair. I know people say "Go back and let them fix it" but I don't think (I know) I wouldn't trust someone who messed it so badly.The thing is- we went through the color chart and what she showed me seemed like a lovely fit for my hair-but the end result was NOTHING like that. I have since seen others who have their hair done there and while they may be proficient with blonde women-the brunettes do not look great- dark- no light reflected and lack of highlights . I was so disappointed as, had it worked I would love to give them the business.My advice for anyone who is unsure is to sit outside and watch people as they come out.If they/you don't look BETTER when you come out, then save your money and buy a bottle of hair color from CVS- read more

I would give this zero stars if I could. I went to Sean for highlights because he was recommended by a friend. I told him I wanted a natural look to blend my dark blonde base with lighter highlights. He put in so many highlights it looked like a cheap single process. My husband and friends agreed. The worst part is he left a giant dark patch around my face! When I went back and nicely asked if he could fix he said it's not his fault my base color is so dark! He refused to fix it, told me he couldn't work with me and pawned me off on someone else. I have never been treated so rudely by anyone, but especially by a service provider in an upscale salon where I paid over $300 to have my hair done! If you want beautiful natural looking highlights and you want to be treated like a human being, go elsewhere. read more

i live in darien and both my mom and i have been getting our hair cut and colored here for probably six years. but for the past year every time we go we swear it will be the last time. i could not tell you the last time they did what either one of us wanted, and the same goes for a lot of friends i know. you go in and tell them one thing and come out with something totally different, and you're out $200. every time i get my hair colored it's a disaster and i've finally booked an appointment at a salon in the city, i'm never coming back here! i'm just over it. Julia used to do amazing work on blondes and ever since she left I swear I've tried all the colorists, and it's awful. I had the worst haircut ever today!!!! I usually go to Lanphier to color my roots as I'm getting loads of grey hair and is easy and local. My colorist is amazing good, very happy with Farrah! Definitely recommend Farrah for color. However, today I really needed a trim and my hairstylist at Noelle can't see me until mid June (of course not, she's fully booked because she rocks, she loves what she does) and so I decided to give a try with someone local and OMG it was awful from the begging... Not sure why I didn't stop Kate to cut my hair today, I guess I dint want to be rude. Just not me!!!! After my color was done I had glaze on my head, and the hair dresses (Kate) basically started to rinse the glaze off, and then she shut the water and never conditioned my super long hair. Then she asked me if I was going to blow-dry my hair or just get a trim. Seriously??? How in the hell do you cut a hair and doesn't style the hair??? What type of question is this??? How do you see if the hair has the same length if is wet??? Or how do you see if you layers are even if you have a wet hair??? She never detangled my hair first, she basically put 90% of my UNTANGLED hair in a bun, and only detangled pieces that she was going to cut. Never seeing anything like this in my life!!! Then didn't even check layers in front of my face to make sure they are evenly in the same length. Gave me a awful/bad blowout, my roots were wet, and the ends looked like a witch broom. And, I decided to go to the room where they keep super mediocre blowdryers and products for people who doesn't get a blowout and I started to dry/finish my own hair. I then noticed that my hair wasn't straight/in the same length. Awful... I am so annoyed because it was expensive and awful!!! Sorry to say I cannot give a good review. Although I was very pleased with my cut--done by Rose--, the colorist I was assigned was TERRIBLE. If you go to Lanphier, do not use Muriel. I asked for cool color, I brought pictures. She STILL dyed my hair red with yellow highlights because she decided that I need to warm up my look. ---I have a violet based complexion and should only get color in the cool ash range and that is what I asked for. Now I'm stuck as a redhead with brassy yellow highlights that couldn't look more fake. It was very expensive for a salon where the colorist totally ignores what you tell her and seems to have no sense of aesthetics. She was also careless and missed spots and she took two other clients while she was doing my hair. --both of them were corrections of color she had done and were very bad: because she doesn't pay attention to what she's doing. I feel bad posting a negative review because Rose gave me such an excellent cut. My advice is to avoid Muriel like the plague!!!!!!! read more
