The second I pulled my car up to the building, I wanted to turn around. The outside was far from impressive and the no refund policy fueled my hesitation. Still, my companions and I continued in. The inside reminded me of almost any other skating rink--albeit a little rundown looking. I immediately headed over to rent roller blades, only to learn that they only rent out roller skates. (If you want to use roller blades, you have to bring your own.) So, I settled for roller skates and stored my things in a locker. (Note that the lockers require cash and you have to pay every time you open it.) After everyone got laced up, we took to the floor to skate. Now, I have to admit that it took me a little while to get comfortable. Unlike most people, I find roller blades easier to skate on. Shortly after, I got yelled at by an employee for holding my phone in my hand. (I didn't have any pockets.) Apparently They have a very strict no cellphone policy on the rink. Even when I promised not to sue them or do anything else foolish in the event something happened to my phone, they wouldn't budge. Luckily, one of the people I came with had pickets, so I just left my phone with her. Once I got back to skating I noticed something strange. At first I thought I was being paranoid but no. Not only could the majority of the people here--primarily adults--skate well but they could do all sorts of tricks. I'm serious, y'all. I felt like I was in Roll Bounce. People were spinning around on one leg, skating backwards, doing flips, etc. it wasn't just 1 or 2 people either. At one point they cleared the floor so anyone who wanted to skate backwards quickly could and more than 1/4 of the people there stayed on the floor. I appreciated the fact that there were mostly adults there, but my entire group was intimidated with the skill of everyone else there. Seriously, even two little kids were outshining us with their tricks. The music is great--they play ran and r&b, but be prepared to reevaluate your skill as a skater. Otherwise, this is a great place for adults looking to roller skate. read more

I paid for a party took the kids in for the party went to get the cake once we got our table and I had to stand in LONG AGAIN line (almost 15 minute) even though I was being charged the table time AND with the kids inside (shocked I asked why) from that point on they treated us horrible ice cream I purchased from them was melted and then one of the ladies threw my change when I made a purchase. I was not only hurt because it was my daughters 5th birthday I had 8 kids inside a cake I went to get cause we didn't have a table til we got there. Came here for my daughters birthday. Not the best choice. We came from an hour away. They charge the adults to enter even though we didn't skate. $8 entry fee per person. We were there at 1pm on a Saturday and the music was definitely for an older crowd and it was ALL Rap. Nothing you could really see meant for skating. They also kicked us out saying It was closed 10 minutes before the paid time. The staff was friendly but much better skating rinks out there. read more

First off, this place has been a community staple for decades and has provided family and friends alike with memorable moments. Brought the family here for my nephew's birthday party 1-18-20, and was immediately turned off as soon as we got in the door. The lady, who was verifying children authorized to skate for the party, seemed very overwhelmed and flustered. After explaining several times that we were late add-ons to the party and expected to pay, she made us stand to the side as she allowed other patrons to come in and pay ahead of us, or proceeded to check names off her list. This lady, then becomes agitated and irate in her attempts to force, not only the nephew whom the party was for to pay for entry, but also his disabled brother who cannot even walk. There were other altercations, one involving the return of "skate mates" which could have been fully resolved if someone was willing to take accountability and just take a tally of the skate mates returned (where can you possibly hide one of those things to sneak it out of the building??). The other involved being "nickled and dimed" for every additional item needed, such as extra plates & plastic ware or even condiments for the abundance of food ordered for the numerous people invited. The things parents endure for the happiness of children can sometimes be unnecessary, this was completely unnecessary. read more

Worse place ever!!! Do not waste your time or money here. I planned oh having a great fun and happy birthday for my son and the people that work for this establishment have no customer service skills at all. Before I arrived three of my guest felt disrespected by the employees. The skate floor wrecked and hokey. The food server tossed the food on the table. They penny pinch on everything thing a cup, a spoon, down to trying to charge my disabled son who can't walk or skate. So many of my guest complained that the workers were rude towards them, the whole system is disorderly, unprofessional, and needs to be closed. read more

This place is amazing.It's very cheap the only concern I have is the bathrooms and the skate floor.The skate floor looks like termites have been eating patches of the floor and the bathrooms could been more sanitary.I also think there should be a family restroom for people either different sexuality but anything other than those concern's it's cool. read more

This skating rink is reminiscent of a middle school gymnasium in a small town...this place screams 1982 with not one drop of a renovation in sight....BUT it is an outlet for the community and neighborhoods. I have been to this establishment 2 to 3 times for special occasion parties. Recently I've found a renewed interest in Adult skate night. On adult skate night the entry fee is $10...clearly I've bee. Out of the loop for a while because the sticker price shocked me. There will be another fee to rent skates and lockers (per fees at any rink). There is a refreshment bar with goodies for kids...and amusement park type food. A DJ sits cattacorner to the skating floor. Beyond the dj there are picnic style tables for groups or individuals to eat the amusement park food. Great for parties! There is a beam that spans around the rink as a barrier (or helpful support if you fall). The outside is for the fast skaters....stay more near the middle gym circle to stay out of their way. You can even practice skating and skate tricks in the middle of the floor in this compact circle. There are rules to abide by: No cellphones on the floor. (I keep mine in my pocket to track my calories though) Don't wear your sweater around your waist if you get hot. It must come off (I was warned by a skate cop) Stay to the inside unless you want to get "ranned" over When skating backwards,look over your should both ways...consistently and constantly to avoid incident ( I learned this the hard way...even after someone gave me that tip ON the foor) And the best tip of all...watch and learn! There are some phenomenal skaters with rhythm, style, nice skates, routines and more. I plan to come back on a regular basis! Come join! read more

Look. I am not a fan of Lanham Skate Center, and I did stop skating there in favor of skating in other places but I need to be fair. I do have friends who work there and friends who skate there. Skating is not just for kids and they don't need roller-bars in the middle of the floor, and Crofton is an ok rink but it is total chaos, but as a skater I can get around the chaos and still enjoy myself. Also, in defense of Lanham, you have to have rules. If you want to come in, you have to pay. If you want a drink of water you have to pay. And, as for the accusation of rudeness, there is sometimes a fine line between being emphatic and being rude. No cellphones on the floor means no cellphones on the floor, etc. etc. I applaud them for upholding rules, some of which are designed for safety. One of my girls comes across as rude but I have seen her take so much stuff that you can understand because she is on the front line. The rink is not for me anymore, but fair is fair. read more

Horrible establishment. This was my first time going because my child was invited to a birthday party. I had another child with me that was not here for the party and in a FOOT CAST and I had to pay for him to come inside. We were already late and had about 1 hr left of the party. They were milking every last dime they could. No wonder the place was empty. Speaking of party they shut that down quickly, The invite said it was until 7:30. By 7:00 they were pulling stuff off the table. Didn't ask anyone if they wanted anything else to drink. They completely wrapped it up before 7:30. Left us holding gifts in our hands while the kids came off the skating floor. Just rude. Come to find out they closed at 7:30. We were ushered out on the dot. What rink closes at 7:30 pm on a Saturday? I'll never go back. read more

DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS!! I brought a group of 20+ here on 03-01-18 to celebrate a birthday and to enjoy an adult night of skating with a Dj. First thing, there was no Dj, as advertised on the website and confirmed by me calling in. One of the reasons that I selected this skating rink was totally based on the false advertising of Dj Stormin Norman spinning that night. Smh Second, outside food is restricted from the venue. I would totally understand this concept, if inside food were available. There was absolutely NO FOOD available! If you want to fill yourself up on candy and soda, maybe. But in terms of food... there is nothing! Third, they are extremely restrictive for it to be a) a skating rink and b), adult night only. Our bags were searched at the door, we could not go to our cars for anything, inclusive of socks or any forgotten item, based on a barely visible sign on the exit door saying "no ins and outs". My cousin, who is a full grown man, was told to remove his baseball cap, and there was a disallowance of social media on your own phone, more particularly "going live", based on the ideology, that it posed a safety hazard. Strangely, one of my guests fell down 3 or 4 times, and the same security that spoke of a "safety hazard" because of phones, was unable to help my guest, because each time I looked up, he was on his phone! Needless to say, I love to support black owned establishments, but this is another circumstance of a poorly run and poorly managed establishment. If you are interested in a better overall experience, I would suggest patronizing the skating rinks in Rockville and Columbia, Maryland. Both of them are well run establishments, and enjoyable to be in. read more

Disgusting and outdated. It needs to be updated and new furniture in addition to the skating floor in need of being redone. I'm embarrassed that the owner is not disgusted and embarrassed as well, and extremely surprised that people still spend their money there. I wish I could leave negative stars. They have so many rules i guess this place is hood. We came from out of town and immediately wanted to leave. The desk lady Nia is the rudest person Ive ever interacted with. No hello, no please, no thank you, very difficult we were all in shock. Our experience was completely ruined before we even went in and we would have left if it wasnt my friends birthday and we had paid 30$ to get there. 13$ for entrance+rental but the skates are horribly old. They have refs on the floor who will confront you for anything including hats(not allowed for some reason but beanies are fine?) and sweaters. Truly horrible Ive been to many a skating center and never had such a unpleasant experience not to mention the place is very rundown and snack, and game area is a joke. Seriously there are ALOT OF RULES many of which seemed unnecessary and the staff was very rude enforcing them? I was also bothered that they shut down everything before 11and start yelling and blowing whistles to get people out. There were alot of children left outside standing in the dark in the rain waiting to be picked up while the manager and entire staff peaced out by 11:05 Never going back. Would never recommend. I am an old school Shake and Bake (Baltimore) skater getting back on the floor after a 16 yr hiatus. I relocated to San Diego for over 10 yrs and moved back to the East Coast - DC area. I now work and live on Cap. Hill and of course picked up some weight thru the years. The gyms get boring as well as the Zumba and aerobic classes that just get monotonous. Realizing I need to do something for cardio I realize I need to get back to what I used to love to do and helped me to lose and keep my weight down. Getting back on the floor was harder than i thought it would be. Being an avid skater and skate guard i thought i would remember something, NOT. It was like I never skated - non the less I bought some skates, went to beginners classes at Crystal Skate and slowly got back to a regular session. I started going to the Tues session at Crystal and after falling twice with no skate guards to help me I literally had to crawl to the wall and lift myself up. The two little guards they had on the floor was about 14 and was busy skating and obviously not doing any guarding. Since then, I started going to Lanham, Seabrook, skating rink. Being a mature adult and new again skater I didn't want to deal with the fear of ducking around the little ones. I attend the adult Mon and Wed-Thurs nights (Thur now adult except the 3rd which is Gospel which is a great session as well). I have become familiar with the floor and know where all the lumps and bumps are. The great skaters give me inspiration as I am still a recycled beginner. I love the music, the atmosphere, the fellowship, the stress relief and best of all the exercise. When I am on the skate floor nothing matters , there are no bills, no relationship issues, no job issues, no kids, no family, no body aches for a while-it's just the wind, the wheels and the music. Its' my little escape on wheels. When I added up the money I spend about $9-$10 per session and the gas it could seem costly but when I add up the money I spend on lunches, snacks/junk, eating out, energy drinks, bigger clothes I figure I can stop the latter and it more than equals out in fun, exercise and getting back into the clothes I love and have already in my closet. I attended a birthday party here on Saturday March 3rd. I will NEVER even go to that skating rink to skate ever again. This was my first and last time. Our party was from 1-4, our pizza was brought to us before we asked, we were charged extra for extra plates, cups, and plasticware...MIND YOU WE PAID FOR A PARTY..and EVERY additional guest paid to get in. Around 3:15 I noticed the staff was starting to clean up the party area. We were the last table and when they got to us they didn't say anything except "take the things off the table you are keeping we have to clean up." NOW while I understand that.... I also know there is a way to handle that AND they did NOT do that to the 3 tables before ours. The staff was rude and inconsiderate and we scrambled to get about 35 people away from the table so they could take the table and the chairs. NEVER AGAIN!!!! Then to beat all..they turned the lights out on us at 3:45.. the lady said "we need a rest before we open up at 4:00. Well then maybe you should say that you close at 3:45...NOT 4:00!
